You prolly got your hair twisted with the intent of starting locs. Locs don’t have a born-on date. It’s a process. You hair isn’t going from no locs on a Tuesday to loc’ed on Wednesday. Good luck with your journey.

I have a full head but I low-key wanna try a really low drop fade then attach them to diff areas for a fuller look

I had got a double edge in hs . I’m 29 and let it thicken over but I feel like it’s good to have a lil taper so your locs don’t pull on your hairline

I cut my own hair.. Done the fade before I locked the hair.. I tend not to take hair from the front because when your hair grows really long you keep pushing the hair back.. so I keep to the natural hair line.. it may not be the case with other people because not everyone has a really good natural hair line to follow

On my 2nd set of locs wish I never got a hightop

I started my 1st set semifreeform hightop and loved the way it looked in the beginning especially when my locs were standing up. The 1st year was great but regret it in year 2 and 3 as soon as my hair started to drop down to my shoulders then eventually passed my shoulders. It only looked good tied up with a fresh fade or braided but i started to dislike the way it looked whenever i wore it down. To me the hightop with long hair is for ppl who want to wear their hair up most of the time. Over time i liked having my locs hang but my sides and back just gave the ovarall appearance that i was thinning everywhere on my head except the top. Just started Set #2 ill be semifreeform again just doing a low taper this time to keep everything shaped and clean

There’s no good outcome with brushing hair forward in the front when loc’ing. The pushback looks bad. The locs look like a hair hat when you do that. Not bothered that someone started doing it but it’s bothersome that enough people copied it to make it a thing.

Ima start w hightops because it's easier to sleep and tie up also I like the hightop curls I have now it suits my head better so it depends on what you like but I would get a hightop first if you want a hightop because you can always grow out the undercut if you want the full head but same goes for starting with a full head and cutting locs off the side but it just depends if you want to expend the locs on top with the ones on the side or if you want them shorter

Exactly that’s y I got high top dreads it’s much less work to maintain it’s easy to sleep and my fav style is the high top fade with the ponytail dreads it looks so clean

That thinning happened to my locks too when it started to grow more and I had to basically combine majority or my locs. I’ve had twisted locks twice and I’ve always experienced them thinning and constantly having to combine because of how thin the locs were from retwisting I’m taking the freeform route this time see how they go 5 months in now

Overdoing the retwists and styling like braiding! Ironic that the things we see as protective kinda aren’t. It’s the parting and tension. People weren’t constantly doing their hair to get real locs it just grew out of us. Freeform as much as possible

Starting a High top with locs was the worst choice I made, start with a full head of dreads first.

high top locs are so much cleaner in my opinion which i have cause you have best of both worlds a haircut and long hair

I had a full set of locks nd city them ….. but on the second journeys I got a mid/low taper cause I hated the lower side when I would get styles … I love my second set better than my full tbh plus I look super clean with barrel rolls nd two strands …. I didn’t want a hightop or sky top because that’s OD to me But since I got some on the sides still If I do go hightop I can still put ‘‘em back in if I don’t like ‘em… I love my locs even tho I live in a white wash state where palm color nd immigrants folks think it’s a homeless hairstyle…. 😂😂

I can try. From my personal experience my loc journey started with freeform locs. My method of loc'ing them was a warm wash and a cold rinse. The cold rinse combined with letting the hair air dry naturally tightens the hair... And over time becomes locs. And also a clean scalp promotes hair growth which is needed to grow locs of any kind, hair in general. I also cheated a bit by rubbing my hair counterclockwise to speed up the process.

@@BluursFN A perm won’t help. The problem is the new growth when your locs grow. The hair outside of the loc is straight. In order to look decent you’ll need a lot of maintenance. It’s just not worth it.
