Hi, thanks for this video. I have serious health problems that led me to go to the UK twice due to humidity in a bathroom that actually had this fan but the central heating system emitted some toxic stuff that fell into my eye. I have been in another home with unfortunately, similar problems as the bathroom emits a strange mould smell every time something is used, tub or toilet, basin etc. i was told by plumber to keep the window open but that just lets in all the dense humidity and fireplace smells from outside! why does the bathroom smell like that when used? it’s not just the washing machine mould smell ( as the machine is in the bathroom) could it be the changes made in the central heating of the building? they went from petroleum to natural gas but didn’t provide the right setting so we often pay for leakages in the building. thank you!

I be;I’ve the biggest cause of mould apart from poor ventilation is that most showers are grouted with cementitious grout which is porous even the tiles can be porous . So if water is passing down the back of the tiles and grout and trapped by silicone ( cause of mouldy silicone dirty behind) the mould start to build up) we have longer showers than what showers were originally tiled for….use epoxy grout instead which never stains and is waterproof.

Hi, I have a bathroom installed in my basement cold cellar and the ventillation is blocked off from the outside due to concrete installation. Now my bathroom has alot of mould growing, I have no room for an exhaust, is there any other option? Should I open the ventilation going from cold cellar to the exterior of the house? Please help.

You really should ask for a professional to come an have a look at that. Buy yourself a dehumidifier, for Down there, it may help.

Help! I'm at my witts end. I've been battling a wet bathroom. I just replaced the fan but I still get tons of humidity. It's so bad that the ceiling is dripping with water over its entire surface. I went into the attic when I replaced the fan and it seems to be insulted well. We also recently had flooring done and I noticed the gap at the bottom isn't very large. The fan is within a couple feet of the shower. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

A humidity sensor could help. You’ll need to get a sparkie to install it. tighthouse.com.au/collections/ventilation/products/ceiling-mounted-humidity-sensor

@@ecoevo our fan is on a timer and we run it during and for 30 minutes after thy shower. So I don't see how a sensor will help.

Great video, except for using anti microbial paints. Mold is to always be removed, and never treated, killed/painted.

I have mold on my bathroom ceiling with my fan running when I shower. Could the hose not being connected in the attic cause that?

That would cause mould in your roof. The key to controlling mould on surfaces is having warm surfaces in your bathroom. Insulation consistency is important, and so is heating, and then it’s also important to run exhausts for as long as needed to reduce the humidity back down to 50% as quickly as possible.

Putting an exhaust fan directly above the shower means you will get cold while showering in Winter/Cold Weather. Not pleasant.

Words are not spelt the same everywhere... Simply googling "mold" or "mould" would show you this. "A mold (US) or mould (UK / NZ / AU / ZA / IN / CA / IE) is a fungus...." It's always best to double-check before you try correct people with so much certainty :)
