Stolen vehicle enters the wrong State - Arkansas State Police SPIKE and PIT stolen Jeep
Trooper's Report:
On June 11, 2024, at approximately 8:10 AM, I, Trooper Chris Dunham, was notified by Troop C Dispatch of a vehicle pursuit
involving a stolen vehicle at the 17 mile-marker southbound in Missouri in excess of 100 miles per hour, and Missouri State
Highway Patrol was requesting assistance. The vehicle was described as a gray 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Dispatch also
relayed that spike strips were deployed in Missouri, disabling one of the vehicle’s tires. I responded to the 67 mile-marker and
set up spike strips utilizing the concrete barrier of the overpass as hard cover. Dispatch advised via radio that New Madrid
Police Department (Missouri) and Missouri State Highway Patrol terminated the pursuit at the state line.
Blytheville Police Department Officers were able to make visual contact with the vehicle at the 68 mile-marker. As the vehicle
approached the 67 mile-marker, I was able to positively identify it and I deployed spike strips at approximately 8:30 AM,
effectively on an additional two tires. I then got in my patrol vehicle, activated my emergency equipment, and gave chase to the
fleeing vehicle. I was able to catch up to the vehicle near the 66 mile-marker with a Blytheville Police Department unit pursuing
behind it. I took primary position in the pursuit as the vehicle began moving onto the shoulder of the roadway. At this time, the
vehicle’s tires began denigrating, causing rubber and debris to fly from the vehicle. The vehicle continued on the shoulder at
approximately 35 miles per hour with three of its tires deflated and damaged. The suspect still not show any signs of stopping.
Due to the risk to other traffic present, and an active work zone beginning at the 63 mile-marker, I attempted to move to the
vehicle’s right side to perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI). As I approached the vehicle’s right side, the driver moved to
the right in attempt to block the maneuver. I moved to the vehicle’s left side and performed a successful TVI on the fleeing
vehicle, causing the suspect to spin to the left into the cable barrier roadside and become disabled. As I turned around and took
a tactical position, units with the Blytheville Police Department were taking the driver, Steven McDaniel, into custody. The
vehicle was cleared and later inventoried before being towed.
The vehicle was later confirmed to be stolen out of Champaign, Illinois.
McDaniel was transported to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office and charged with Fleeing-Felony, Theft by
Receiving, Reckless Driving, Driving on Suspended, Fail to Show Insurance, No Seatbelt, Defective Tires, Improper Lane
Usage, and Speeding.
Due to the incident taking place within the city limits of Blytheville, and the Blytheville Police
Departments assistance, Blytheville Police Department’s Sgt. John Nelson will assist in the arraignment of McDaniel.

Well you'd think all these cop cars coming by and debris flying that the trucker would have checked up and been prepared to stop. Not ASP fault the trucker is not bright. Those last minute pits deter or at least slow the perps from running. They weren't stopping, they kept slow rolling prob get prepared to flee on foot.
I've said this many times before, but how can you not appreciate and respect the fact that ASP's second priority (after getting the bad guy) is getting the highway back open. Man, I love that. The state I live in would shut down the highway for hours to "investigate", even though it's all been recorded.

Whoever invented the dash cam is a genius.
Uhmm... that jeeps tires are flying apart from that "good spike", and they are now coming to a stop (or at least slowing down considerably) with several cops behind them on the RIGHT side of the hwy.. so, instead of getting along side and pushing them off the road, a pit maneuver is used to slide them BACK across both lanes into the path of a big rig hauling super heavy rolled steel?!! My God.. I'm betting the rig driver thought the fiasco was coming to an end on the right shoulder and probably crapped his pants when he had to lock it down to keep from hitting everyone! IF that rolled steel broke loose, it would have probably killed the truck driver and everyone in front of it. Talk about brake checking a semi hauling one of the most dangerous loads out there... WTH!
Apparently mr. Mcdaniel didn’t hear about Arkansas and how ASP gets on ur ass. They are relentless and don’t quit. He choose the wrong state to try and flee.

For those who are going to type "Hey look, no usual suspects comments on this video. Well, here is a detailed explanation as to why. Probably because he didn't bring out the "I can't breathe", "I didn't do anything", "I wanna call my momma." He didn't resist arrest, he didn't use any expletives of any kind and he assumed total responsibility for his actions. It was a fair cop and he owned up. The trucker tried to pass an active police chase.
5:00 A police officer directing traffic should put on their reflective safety vest. Come on guys.
I’m all about a great PIT / TVI, but I feel like that one came a bit prematurely, and not done in a safety oriented fashion. It could just be me, but I feel this particular PIT / TVI should have been towards the right shoulder, and not towards the median. There was a flatbed driver hauling what looks to be a coil, and those range from 5-20 tons. You can’t exactly stop on a dime. Perhaps the trooper did that intentionally in an effort to save the taxpayers some money, had the tractor smashed into the stolen vehicle. Again, this is merely my opinion as a truck driver. Stay safe out there! Over & Out.
One thing is 100% factual: Do not mess with Arkansas State Police!. Anyone that runs from them is out of their mind regardless of the performance of your car. Pure stupidity to attempt it.
I hope the semi was OK.
