March 3, 2024 - Little Rock, Arkansas
Little Rock Police Officer locates a stolen vehicle. When the officers attempt to make contact with the driver, he takes off leading LRPD on a dangerous pursuit through the city. Arkansas State Police are notified. Trooper Byrd intercepts the chase and performs a PIT / TVI maneuver ending the pursuit.

Trooper Byrd's Report:
On March 5, 2024, approximately 5:02PM, Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) contacted Arkansas State Police Troop A
Dispatch requesting assistance with a pursuit of a stolen Nissan Altima white in color displaying Arkansas AVJ58D (V1). The
pursuit was in the area of Roosevelt Road and Springer Blvd heading southbound.
I (Trp. Byrd) responded to the area of Interstate 440 eastbound (I440E) at Springer Blvd. The pursuit merged onto I440E from
Springer Blvd and continued to Fourche Dam, Exit 5. At this point, V1 abruptly exited cutting off multiple vehicles while driving
recklessly through a red light at the intersection of Fourche Dam and the I440E ramps. When V1 failed to stop at the red light,
cross traffic had to abruptly stop to avoid a collision. V1 merged back onto I440E where I was able to become the primary unit
in the pursuit. I immediately caught up to V1 to attempt to a TVI, but V1 braked and swerved to the left to avoid me. I
successfully performed a TVI immediately after that causing V1 to leave the roadway to the right. Once V1 came to a final rest,
the driver of V1 (S1) was taken into custody.
LRPD took custody of S1 and charged S1 with the following:
5-36-103: THEFT OF PROPERTY = $5,000 - $25,000
5-54-125(d)(3): FLEEING - FELONY - VEHICLE OR CONVEYANCE - SUBSTANTIAL DANGER OF DEATH
5-71-218: OPEN CONTAINER CONTAINING ALCOHOL IN MOTOR VEHICLE

What a SIIIIIICK pit by Officer Byrd! Suspect suddenly changed speed and direction, but Office Byrd adjusted in a fraction of second, and slowly pushed the back of the car sideway... less the 8 seconds as the lead chse car... I wouldn't even be surprised if there's not a single mark on any of the cars invoved! INSANELY clean executed textbook TVI. Byrd's legend TVI status is FULLY earned! I autocross with Byrd. He's not bad. He just needs a quicker vehicle to end things sooner. That's his biggest complaint. He catches up to the quickest vehicles in corners though. It's all about the cornering techniques. Good tires pkay a vital role too. Most perps don't have the best high performance tires

Everyone is giving credit to Byrd but not enough to the original cop who first spotted the car and pursued it all the way in a much bigger/heavier Explorer while being very aware of his surroundings paying attention to innocent civilian safety above all then taking his place when state troopers showed up letting them take lead and end the chase. He’d make an awesome trooper as well… just like the ByrdMan. Salute! 🦅

Arizona has a good chase policy too. They have a "pursuit taskforce" that takes over on every chase. You don't see many chases from Arizona because they end them before the news choppers can get there. I've seen a few chases where you don't see any marked police cars chasing, but suddenly the perp gets caught in a wall of traffic and brought to a stop, at which point every unmarked car within half a block starts sprouting police officers. Arizona also pioneered the Grappler. No need for PITs when you can lasso them.
'Veni, vedi, vici' - this phrase is attributed to Julius Caesar for his swift victories. They should write it on Byrd's car because it perfectly describes how confident and quick he is.
Trooper Byrd is the GOAT. He is a mentor for anyone considering Highway Patrol. I’ve often wondered why local PD and many Sheriff Depts don’t have a physical standard for officers/deputies. Nearly every Trooper I see is clean cut, great shape and uniform is perfect. Not so much for local police. I’ve always believed you perform as well as the effort you put into your appearance and health.
It gives me chills to watch The Byrd Man do his job. Absolutely awesome!
I wouldn’t trade one of these for 10 of those other so-called pursuits where all they do is follow the suspect for miles and miles, and I simply will not watch that LA nonsense. ASP, especially The Byrd, are the best! It’s so fabulous seeing him in action again. He’s so smooth, just glides in like a soaring eagle then quickly swoops and snatches his prey, game over.
Woow what a chase with a perfect PIT ending! Thank you troopers 👏🏻

Byrd wastes no time.
Beautiful work by the LRPD unit and the other ASP Trooper blocking the two lanes so Byrd could PIT freely without endangering anyone else.
Is the joy to watch somebody who is well suited for their job but Byrd is superlative. Outstanding job! 👍👍
Nice job Trooper Byrd and all you other officers. Trooper Byrd is like my older brother who was a retired PENNSYLVANIA STATE TROOPER before he passed away. Once he was in pursuit of a suspect he chased them till he stopped them . He even pitted some some of the suspects were drug dealers or armed robbery suspects. We need more cops like that protecting law abiding citizens. If people being stopped by police for some reason would just pull over and cooperate things would be much safer for all.
"I'd like to introduce you to my friend from the Arkansas State Police"...
The Byrd of prey strikes again. 🙌🏻
9:37 That pit contact was so smooth, you don't even see Trooper Bird's car lurch at all. 👍👍
If Chuck Norris knew Trooper Byrd was chasing him, he would pull over.
Trooper Bryd did it again! He just amazes me on his control with speed! Also a shout out to the communication with all involved number two was calling out on the radio I like how they communicated their position and what their responsibilities were going to be once the perp was stopped
Trooper Byrd.....Your TPI Training officer deserves a raise .... He did a Great Job Training you!

He learned most of it as a semi-pro race driver is what I heard
Trooper Byrd, you are one heck of a driver. Thank you for being there for the citizens.
All praise The Myth, The Legend and as everyone is saying, The PIT MASTER!!
Trooper Byrd - the PIT Maestro, the purveyor of PIT perfection. The man, the legend, the Byrd.
The Legendary Trooper Byrd gets another one. Well done sir.
Byrd wakes up in the morning, blinks and a car is pitted out
"summons trooper byrd," like he's a wizard LMAO.
Trooper Byrd's the man!! I wish LRPD could perform PITs, too!
Oh shit! It's time to send in the BIG DAWG! Some say he's the man, the myth, the legend. That he scans the road like the Terminator. All we know is, he's called the BYRDMAN!
When the door opened the surprise was once again overwhelming.
Legendary Byrd took less than 1 minute to take down the perp, with clinical precision. No one can outrun Legendary Byrd. There is a fan following for this guy. Prime candidate for a comic strip. His fans will lap it up!
That's how you do that! Make contact and then maintain it and guide it off the road away from traffic

Smooth as silk
Not only a pit in record time once on the scene, but the legit owners of the stolen car will get something back. Often after an ASP pit, all that is salvageable is the badge on the steering wheel.
On the scale of elegance this PIT get 10 out of 10
