@@neilbower9052 8 million a day spent on boat people, maybe that cash would be better spent keeping our towns and cities in good repair? In 2014 there was a financial report that showed that over the previous 17 years arrivals from outside the EU had cost us 120 billion, ya know, all those doctors and engineers arriving and we paid 120 billion to support them. It's not just amazon, we can survive online shopping if our money wasn't robbed from us. google Immigration from outside Europe 'cost £120 billion' 2014. it's a fact

Stoke on Trent use too be a thriving city. We made pottery we had a great mining industry the steel works and it's all gone. It's so very sad too see the decline in a short time .

The only reason those businesses don't thrive is cheap imports. There was a time when we valued the things we purchased, and didn't mind paying more, but now - it seems to be a race to the bottom with everything.

Since COVID( and The Leopard pub fire) Burslem has never recovered...luckily The Bulls head, Johnnie's bar and Curry houses keep the place going somewhat.

I wonder, if Britain ever manages to rise up from all this neglect and decay of our towns, if the Heritage people would keep such derelict looking areas as a historic testament to how life was like in this era? In this crazy world that I find myself living in, I wouldn't be at all surprised!

travelling south wards on the canal, we had to stop in Kidsgrove.. some people friendly but there were a few people behaving unpredictably (abusive people and a streaker!!) chips were good though. Passing through the tunnel we came to a very rundown Stoke with buildings that were historically interesting to glide past but so battered and bruised😢. Again mixture of things going on, jogging with no shoes on towpath for a start, but CRT looked like they had organised some lovely events for the kids including canoeing.. wasn’t inviting enough to stop here. Such a shame
