It’s funny how when they both left McLaren became better. Nando and Stoff with the 2019 - 2021 car would have been something.

Honestly, if F1 allowed three-car teams, I believe Sainz, Norris and Vandoorne would've been a pretty strong lineup with those cars.

McLaren ruined his career, among many others. Coulthard famously said, “If you look at the history of McLaren, whenever they have a really bad season, they drop a driver.”

@@F1Guy-Guy Yess. Wehrline is even worse. Vandorne had a slower car than Alonso (McLaren admitted it) and also... It's Alonso. There are probably 2-3 drivers on the grid who would beat him in the same car.

Fun fact, Van Dorne is the most recent driver to win a world championship in a Mercedes-Benz, the next most recent is Nyck de Vries and then Lewis Hamilton.

I have been watching Formula 1 since the early-mid 80's, out of all the drivers I've seen come and go in the more modern era, Stoffel Vandoorne to me is the biggest puzzle of them all, the hype around him was incredible, his dominance and craft before F1 years incredible, the buzz around him was huge, truly puzzling how he never managed to place the pieces together, I truly wonder what his career would've been like if he left McLaren early, no hate Stoffel, but you are a true casualty of the modern talents broken along the way on this sport

I honestly think he's one of the most underrated drivers before. Sad to hear McLaren dropped his career out for the team. At least his racing career is still not yet over especially when he was in Formula E and GP2 Series.

This is so unfair Stoffel Vandoorne never had a second chance in F1. 😭😭😭 Is there a team can give him even just one race weekend? 🙏🙏🙏 And let him prove he's so much better than his McLaren's period. 😞😞😞 F1 is where Stoffel should be belong.

I would love to see him in the place of Lance Stroll !

I would love to see literally anyone in place of some dude who doesn't even want to be in F1.

Norris was very underwhelming his first two years in McLaren, but he started showing he belonged in his 3rd season. I was kind of surprised that Zak Brown didn't give Vandoorne a 3rd year too, but then I remember that Vandoorne was a driver sought after by Ron Dennis, and Zak did a lot of firings that year within the team.

Stoffel seems like a really nice guy - it's a shame how it all went down at McLaren.

McLaren were so far up themselves they were claiming to have the best chassis if not the same as Red Bull and that the only thing holding them back was the Honda engine. We know how that story went when both McLaren and Red Bull were powered by the same units and McLaren was not even close. The Driver in the development or maldevelopment had a major hand in that. Either by error or willingness so that they keep their seat and options to race in other categories like say Indy.

switch him with daddy’s cash so him and Alonso could be teammates again but in a much more competitive car

Tom just get to the point - stop leading the poor guy round and round. What was wrong with McLaren and do you think you should get a second chance in lance’s seat? 😂 How are you not going to ask about Alonso then vs now?! Having listened to every other episode this secret audition / what’s not said type interview is not necessary. You go straight at the point with everyone else except for Aston which every reporter tip toes around the topic we all really want to understand. It’s like Lawrence stroll is Voldemort. Stoffle losing his seating is unfair like lance stroll being in his seat is unfair. Ask him his perspective on being a reserve driver for lance stroll, next to Alonso even though he’s more than 4 points behind Alonso 😂

@@448f1 this is pretty complicated right now... Leclerc is genuinely quicker than Sainz. Why is he losing out to him then? Well, the car does absolutely not fit Leclercs driving style, and given to that he's actually been doing quite well. Sainz on the other hand does not cope well with cars that don't fit him. Remember 2022, when he was utterly losing to Lec. Apart from that, Charles doesn't seem to be too smart. When you drive for Ferrari, you need to do your own strategy, which is something he hasn't managed yet. Still, I believe he will beat Hamilton. Not because Hamilton is washed. He's already shown that he isn't. But Lewis is going to have to adapt to a completely new car, new steering wheel, new environment and so on. But we'll see

Stoff's performance in other series, along with his more current F1 practice times, are enough to show that he might be fun to watch if he had another F1 opportunity. That said, I appreciate they didn't overstate the importance of his recent Formula E championship victory, since that series is... not great.
