A good friend/brother of mine ridiculed me for stockpiling ammo pre-covid and not long after covid hit and caused ammo shortages and inflated prices, he called me asking if I would sell him some ammo. Sorry bud, can't help you. He had to admit that it was smart of me to stockpile when I did.

Good video. It's amazing how many people own a gun and 1 partial box of ammo. I'm with you on picking a few to stock. Also having multiple platforms that use the same ammo is a bonus. There's a reason that 44WCF (44-40) was so popular back in the day. You only needed to stock one ammo for rifle & handgun.

Good ideas here and I do the same thing with adding the oxidizer packs in the ammo boxes. I am a re-loader, so I was able to get all my supplies and stuff before all the prices went up, which I heard the prices are supposed to skyrocket. Your correct when suggesting to get your ammo when you can and not try to get a whole mess of it at once. As long as I have enough ammo to plink, hunt and defend the property, as well as contingency supply as well, then I am squared away. Good video- Thanks for the advice-

I've always been fortunate for being single. I was buying German and South African M193 in battle packs from AIM surplus when it was $69.00 for 1k delivered. I'd buy 2-3k per month. I replace everything I shoot. Even at todays prices. I was buying primers powder and 77gr Sierra Match Kings for my cousin to reload for shooting competitions. I provided the brass from that m193 training ammo that I bought. Same with 9mm except on a smaller scale. 12 gauge and 22lr the same. 5.56 has always been my laser focus. Magazines as well.

One .50 cal can will store 300 .308 in 20 round box or 1000 5.56 in 50 round box or 1000 9mm in 50 round box or 2500 .22 LR in 100 round containers (CCI plastic) I built a wooden shelving unit that houses 35 cans (5 shelves of 7 cans) for my shtf ammo which i started gathering quite a few years ago. 1500 or 5 cans .308 (900 168 gr hpbt/600 147 gr ball) 15000 or 15 cans 5.56 62 gr ball. 5000 or 5 cans of 9mm (3000 124 gr XTP/2000 124 gr ball). 25000 or 10 cans of .22 lr (5000 CCI 32 gr HP Stingers/20000 CCI 36 gr HP). ((46500 for those that count)) Each can also has a desicant pack in it. My training/hunting/range/practice ammo and ammo in other calibers is also stored on shelves but not in ammo cans. Some is stored in mags others in original box and some in mtm 100 count boxes. Do not forget water food medical and training. One other thing .. 1k or 9mm or 556 or a full 3.5 gal waterbrick is around 25 lbs .. in other words liftable by most .. that is something to consider as well. Anyway .. thank you for your information .. good video.

Reason I dump into cans besides storage space - I've taken some rifle and pistol classes over the years, guys getting ammo out of boxes reload mags really slow and leave garbage everywhere 😂 everyone waiting for those few (used to be me) and the experienced guys were grabbing like popcorn and then helping others when done.

I have 200 Self Defense rounds made up, and 500 hunting rounds made up. I also have 500 empty case ready to be made up as I go for practice and plinking. I wait till I am ready to play before I make them up, and only enough to get though a play session. This way just in case I want to change up bullets or try a new powder I have the empty brass ready to get after it. I am also in the process of searching through 12 reloading manuals in order to find recipes that I might would like to try out. So I do not want to over buy one type of powder or bullets. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Plus, I am wanting to create a Wild-Cat Cartridge and want empty cases ready for the process of development. So, as long as I have enough loaded ammo to cover what may come up at a given time, I like having empty cases laying around at my disposal. So I only buy enough powder of a particular type to see what I think of the recipes at hand. And once I find say a favorite recipe I will then buy up a lot of the ingrediencies to last a long time. But I still will wait to load them up as I go, as I prefer spacing my reloading sessions out, a little here and a little there. All that said I also buy all the primers I can get my paws on, as I did with the cases, so that I'll have them stockpiled and ready to go for years to come.

Good points. You can DIY moisture absorbtion packs using 000 steel wool in an open baggie. I also suggest getting reloading supplies, go to the local ranges to see what you can salvage. I use a cartridge conversion book, to see what brass can be converted. 30.06 can make a lot of other calibers, .40 S&W can produce .357 SIG. It can also be sold/traded for something you do want.

@jennifernichols9468 Sorry, 10mm to 357 sig increases case pressure due to thicker web at the base. If you use a straight walled bullet, the 40 case can be used. It gets a good grip on it, the case head spaces off the shoulder. I've run about 3 k of this.

While you have the right to buy as many guns in different calibers as you like, I fail to see why anyone needs so many different calibers. I understand a shotgun, .22lr, a pistol, hunting rifle and ar. I don't get why you would need .22lr,.380, 9mm, 10mm,.40, 45, 223/556, 308 you get the point. Unless you have buckets full of money, I find it better to have a few calibers and have lots of it, than to have a bunch of calibers and have little of it.

You always have to have different types of calibers because you never know when you will not have ammo for one caliber. I am a 45 guy 762×39 never shot 556×45 or 9mm but recently there was no 45 and no 762×39 so now I bought 556×45 rifle and 9mm pistol because ammo was plenty. If you don't have ammo you can not train 556×45 is a baby bullet compared to 762×39 but you can train with it. Not a fan of 9mm but very cheap so I can train with that so I am becoming a fan. Then need you shoot gun and your hunting rifle so when shoot gun shells on sale or my 308 on sale I by it. I have my 10mm and 357 for hiking and hunting so I stock as much as I can. I stock 22 because it is cheap so having a 22 ammo you can always hunt small game and always eat. Stock everything you can you never know when you will not have access to ammo and always have as many different rounds as you can. If you store multiple calibers you will always have ammo to train with.

From the look of your ammo box bulging out on the sides they must be the cheap crappy Walmart kind and not the military surplus. Might as well have them in a paper bag. Looks like you really don't know what you're doing. You're also using 50 Cal boxes for 9 mm which is not logical if you want to haul that around you're going to have to get ones half that size and just double up. 🤦

Thanks for the ammo-porn! If you have “thousands and thousands” of rounds for all of your off-caliber weapons (the ones you’re not stockpiling), you’re either rich, bragging, or both. The most important piece of information is common knowledge: Don’t stockpile for every gun you own.

chipsramek3868…. Have you been living in a cave or is it that you don’t see the pending ammo crisis as a threat to your self preservation, whether for defense or for hunting as long as you have a couple boxes of shells for your calibers in the closet? It’s not about how much you’ll need at any one time. It’s about how much is going to be available in the near future and for how long the supply will last!

I keep all of my stuff in all of their original boxes to help me keep an accurate inventory of specific brands/types of shot. I agree it’s better to have 1000+ rounds of 4-5 ammo types (which gives you plenty of versatility) versus 300 rounds of 12 different types.
