The engines each do about two hours of this before each of their moves, that's often how they play :P
One of the things I *LOVE* about engine games is how the tempo can get so high that they won't make immediate takes because something else needs to happen first and that something else is so important that they will just leave pieces lying around

@@snbeast9545 no i honestly think you're right! I cant begin to comprehend all the lines that could've come from not sacking the pawn but it very much looks like a classic attraction tactic and i can definitely imagine how the king on the 6th rank is better for black in some way so white chose to attract it to the 5th. If the king just moves out of check that pawn becomes another threat of queening. Again im no engine but in my eyes its more likely to be an attraction tactic rather than a humorous blunder
If Stockfish sacrifices material seemingly for no reason in the endgame (sometimes even a full queen), it's probably because it's close to getting into a theoretical (100%) known win according to the tablebase. It sacrifices the pieces to get into a known win faster (a position with 6 or 7 pieces on the board).

I posted this as well. It's because of TB probing. I'm surprised at how little chess masters know about how these chess engines work, seeing as how they have to use them all the time in pre-game prep. Also there's a lot of people confused in the comments asking why Leela didn't get a shot as white in the same opening. TCEC does in fact give each side a chance at the same opening, and SF still blew Leela out of the water with something like 18 winning game pairs to just ONE for Leela.

I mean, to an engine, a known win is no different than a checkmate, so logically, a known win in 2 would be preferred to a checkmate in 3.
