Stock CO2 Laser Lens Vs. Cloudray Compound Lens - Better Engraving?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today we're going to be looking at installing a Cloudray Laser Compound Lens Kit on my 50w laser cutter.
Having a compound lens installed on your CO2 laser cutter should let you get darker and finer laser engraving on your laser engraving machine. The drawback is that they do not let you cut anywhere as deep as the stock CO2 laser lens that came with your laser cutter.
My CO2 laser engraver is similar to the popular k40 laser cutter and other Chinese laser engravers, so the install process should be similar for other machines, like an 80w laser cutter.

Definitely better contrast but can't see if sharpness is better, it appears to be but that can happen when contrast is increased, but still images look better with more contrast

Was this supposed to be a demonstration of photo engraving or incised 3D engraving? Far too much power for the speed for both lenses I saw no attempt to set the optimum focus for the speed and power you chose for either lens. Was this a dithered image or a grayscale image ? I note that Lightburn has set your line interval to 0.1mm Did you check that your machine was capable of producing 0.1 dots (or lines) before running the tests. If your dots ( or line thickness if this is grayscale engraving) are more than 0.1mm then that accounts for the depth of cut because you will be burning each pixel multiple times. The compound lens has much greater "spot" intensity and requires much lower power than a normal lens. I note you ran both lenses at the same speed and power. This is not a fair comparison for either lens.

@@MakeTechCreate The compound lens result looks very similar to borax treated wood with a regular lens. Can't really see the value for engraving. One would think the feature of a compound lens would be greater depth of field - therefore a cutting advantage, not an engraving advantage. Where's the cutting demo video?

Hi have you thought of putting USA CVD II-VI ZnSe 1.5” and 2.5” so both lens are USA lens To make the compound lens instead of the cheap 1.5”

Stock lens is clearly better and I dont see why you need to stack two lenses together, thats odd. Second method produced way more burning, which means that focus was simply bad. Lasers do not burn anything, they evaporate material, so ideally you would not see burn at that depth.

The concept is to create a smaller focus point for more details... but, yes, it only really applies to a few applications. For most engraving, the stock lens is just fine.
