STING - Bring On The Night - parte 1
Музыка
RELEASE DATE: 28 October 1985
RELEASE COUNTRY: UNITED KINGDOM
The 1985 documentary 'Bring On The Night' covers the formative stages of the band assembled by Sting that plays the jazz infused pop of his first solo album 'The Dream Of The Blue Turtles'. Director Michael Apted - who has won acclaim for documentaries such as his ongoing series tracking the lives of a varied group of Britons at seven year intervals (most recently 1991's '35Up') and 'Moving The Mountain' in 1995, a film produced by Trudie Styler, as well as such feature films as 'Coalminer's Daughter' (1980), 'Gorillas In The Mist' (1988) - amassed 350,000 feet of film in his nine day shoot following Sting and his Blue Turtles from their rehearsal at a gorgeous French chateau to their opening performance at Paris's intimate Theatre Mogador. In addition to capturing the anxieties surrounding Sting's first post-Police endeavour, 'Bring On The Night' serves as a showcase for the brilliant young American jazz musicians that comprised the Blue Turtles band. Keyboardist Kenny Kirkland and saxophonist Branford Marsalis (who reportedly caused a familial rift by bolting brother Wynton's classic jazz quintet to join Sting's incursion into jazz-based pop) demonstrate their sublime musicianship throughout the film. Daryl Jones' bass provides the band's indispensable rhythmic foundation (Jones has since evolved from a 'Blue Turtle' to a Voodoo Lounge lizard as the bassist for the Rolling Stones), Omar Hakim's drumming is simply incendiary, particularly (and fittingly) on his bravura solo which brings the Mogador version of 'I Burn For You' to a scorching crescendo. Whilst Marsalis's effervescent wit steals as many scenes as his ascendant sax, ultimately this is Sting's table as one white haired sage put it, and it is the blond leading man who caps the film's blend of 'Blue Turtle' compositions and Police standards with a classy voice and guitar solo encore rendition of 'Message' In A Bottle. Indeed, only the forces of nature can upstage Sting in 'Bring On The Night' when Trudie goes into labour on the night of the second Mogador performance Apted's cameras are, sure enough, right there to record the debut appearance of Jake Sumner, Sting and Trudie's second child for the silver screen.

The best of Sting. When I heard this in the 80s it was unbelievable. Marsalis is a total privilege. Still playing it every day in my car

His experiment for a unique sound worked.
If that is not musical excellence, what is? Hakim, putting in an absolute clinic. Greatest, or one of the greatest solos of all times.
Possibly the most VIBRANT band he ever had. A perfect storm for a "between bands" early 30's Sting. One of my favourite Sting periods of time.
Bought the VHS, then the CD - at least 3 times, as spare just in case - and now I'm watching YT 35 years later, not bored and still amazed by the music, even though I can sing every note from it

Still have this on a battered and worn out VHS. Right next to Police Around The World, Police live in Essen (October 18, 1980, Rockpalast) and Urgh! A Music War. And the video collection that came out in 1986 (along with the singles CD that included the then brand new, re-recorded version of Don't Stand So Close To Me). I used to have even more tapes but the passing of time seems to have taken most of them, somehow...
This band cannot be topped. Period.
I remembering purchasing the LIVE CD's to this as an import because they weren't available here in the US when this was released. Sad the kids today do not know or care to know this important musical masterpiece. And the band- MAN!!! RIP Kenny Kirkland...

I first played my sister's double vinyl set. After she moved out I borrowed the records. Then I declared them my property! After that I ripped the LPs to Minidisc for convenience. After a few years I finally got hold of an original edition double CD set.

Aye I’m 15 and I listen to sting on the daily but Ik hundreds of ppl and know one else knows about him
What a great band! I was a jazz fan before I was a Sting fan. He was so smart to hire these musicians for this project. Branford, Kenny, Omar, Daryl, awesome!
One of the best musical ensembles ever assembled. Pure art… All of it. The question is, can today’s generation do it? I hope so.
Some of the greatest music i have ever heard.....
OMAR IS ONE OF THE BEST DRUMMERSVIN THE WORLD
The most exciting "back up" band ever... Lucky Sting.
I watched this when I was a kid. I can't explain how appropriate Hakim's playing is. It's influenced my sound so much he's just ridiculously on point.
Omar Hakim, can leave that drop until the last millisecond, and just when you get caught out by the shock, that's the key to push the beat that propels you forward at pace. What soul, what craft. Joy
I know this is late...I saw this show in Dijon, France...fall of 1985 as a college freshman...my date was the most gorgeous Danish girl in the world to me. Lihn... I had to leave the next morning back to the US and college in Maine...it was such a sweet sorrowful night. I'll Never forget it...

That concert i saw in 85 in Montréal Canada in a cozzy night in late september...teenage years misseddd
I remember seeing Branford Marsalis and his band - well it was Kenny Kirkland and probably all the other guys here too except Sting - playing some badass jazz in 1987 at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. It was so good!
Does what music at its best does, fires the heart and wakes the soul, brilliant in all aspects.
Love Sting's pants on "Shadows In the Rain"!
Poderosa banda. Lo mejor de Sting sin duda.
The double live cd "bring on the night" is my best cd...ever! i try to make enjoy it at young men and they did'nt like it, so sad...

Sting’s dream of a commercially viable alternative to Last Exit built solidly on the foundations of The Police
Obra maestra, lastima nadie la sube con subtítulos en español
Some of modern music's greatest and all so... humble... almost like common mortals!
Pra mim o melhor disco do Sting. A banda perfeita os arranjos o astral o repertório tudo valoriza a música deste grande artista

Omar Hakim: the monster !
