Im sitting here watching this and thinking to myself. If you was to put a pipe on the exhaust side of the jug with a vacuum on it and install a MAF sensor in it. You can get your flow numbers and you could measure velocity. So then when you do port work you can compare the gains if any. Gale banks does this with a flow bench to test intake systems.

Am I the only one seriously impressed with the stock numbers for a 40cc saw? It looks to me to be putting out 50cc numbers. A stock Husqvarna 55 Rancher is 3.4hp. Both Stihl and Husky's 45cc "firewood" saws put out 3hp, at least the 025 and 345 that I own did stock. Is that mostly due to the closed port of the 241 vs the open ports on the 345 and 0250? Joe's porting work means it blows the door's off all the stock 50cc class including Stihls' own 261 at 4hp even. I know the new 5 series from Husqvarna are leaving much less on the table than they did in the past but that's where you have to look to find any competition with this ported 241. That's one impressive 40cc saw ported or not. As a 55 year old living on a farm and heating with wood (around 6 cords a year) all my life, weight has become my biggest concern. I'm just finishing up on a 345 to 350 conversion I've been working on and am anxious to see what kind of power I can get out of it. It will be competing with my Stihl ms211 to see which one I reach for when it's time to go to work. The 211 only has a muffler mod but boy was that muffler mod beneficial. As I was still breaking the 211 in it felt to me like it didn't really need a muffler mod. Boy was I wrong. It is probably the biggest improvement I've ever seen from a simple muffler mod. It got rid of the "scream/bog, scream/bog" tendency of the stock 211. It was really hard to find the sweet spot where it liked to cut. It really wasn't usable as far as I'm concerned. I'm passionate about this hobby and never get nowhere near enough cut time with any my saws. The stock 211 just wasn't any fun to use before the MM. Anyway, I'll stop my yapping and go back to this 350 I'm almost ready to fire up for the first time. As always, I love all of the videos Dyno Joe puts out and I seriously appreciate the time and effort he puts in to these videos. No One else is doing what he is and I believe his sub numbers will rise exponentially as it picks up a head of steam and more people will discover this excellent channel.

I have a 241. I bought it used. They were only $50 less than a 261 so that probably hurt sales. The are a nice small and light saw. I used mine 2 weeks ago to limb a pine. My dad was using his 261. The 261 revs up so much faster than a 241. The 261 sounds so much more sporty. Weren't they sold as 3hp? Nice numbers ported. You got 60cc power out of a 40cc saw. It would be cool if you did an overlay of the ported 241 and then a stock 60cc to see how they compare.

Great build, now to do your 4310. These small pro saws cost nearly as much to manufacture as their larger siblings, not much margin for manufacturers and dealers at the price point that they would sell well in the US. More profit in a 271 and only 2.5lbs of extra plastic to lug around.

Same thing can be done with a manometer and a shop vac. The manometer can be made with a ruler and some clear vinyl tubing with dyed water in it. Works good for comparisons.
For cleaning I use a paint brush, tooth brush, a plastic scraper and diesel fuel.
Great build! I love my Dolmar 421 in that class. With an easy muffler mod this thing performs well. I don’t know that porting would do it any measurable favors. The Dolmars always seemed hot right out of the box.
i spend quiet some time with this saw, cutting logging trails, wonderfull little saw, for running a 15" bar
Great channel man. Keep up the good work! Thanks
Damn fine results. It's a shame it was such a short run for the 241's
I have a 024, good saw for light work.
I like the 40cc saws for 8" trees and smaller. Anything above that I prefer my 60cc saws. I dont really feel a need for a 50cc saw but I have one. Cheers
Love my 241
I like high pressure air for cleaning. Finish with carb cleaner
Nice gain up high!!
Close to 4.5HP is kinda impressive, from 40cc!

No kidding! A stock 372 has 5.4 hp. It's the torque that makes the difference. Still, this saw is impressive nonetheless. (and we also know what ported 372´s run like haha)
Love the small saw build! What does a similar “work” build do to the more common MS250 or 251’s?
When I bought my HQ 55 I wanted a saw that could do it all. Not too big not too little.
Thank s!
husky 242xp and 246 and ms260 are my go toos almost got a 241 i snoozed then they got discontinued
Great build, now to do your 4310. These small pro saws cost nearly as much to manufacture as their larger siblings, not much margin for manufacturers and dealers at the price point that they would sell well in the US. More profit in a 271 and only 2.5lbs of extra plastic to lug around.
@christopherlehman4045

They didn’t sell well that’s why the usa doesn’t get them anymore. Local dealership had one for 3 years before they got rid of it, most people just spent a little extra on the 261
Nice job Joe, can you explain on another video how you you the ring to get your marks for porting, I have 021, 027, and 029 which I’m going big bore kit to make it 039 lol I like smaller saws for cleaning trails and small fire wood but i have bigger saws too like 372XP and 288XP none of my saws are ported just muffler mods and tuned maybe one day I’ll try porting one thanks for what you do and sharing it
@christopherlehman4045

021 and 025? Or do you have an ms 270? The 029 I’d leave an 029 unless your going oem 039 cylinder and piston which will be expensive. Otherwise it’s likely the stock 029 cylinder with new piston and rings will out perform the 039 aftermarket stuff.

@@christopherlehman4045It’s not “likely”, it flat out does! Been there done that and working on trying to get some power back out of it. The 029 belonged to my dad so I decided upgrade the engine when the old one was getting tired. I bought the short block from Bailey’s. I’m still working on upgrading.
These saws are hard to find used. I’ve been looking for one to compliment my fleet. I have a 501P now, so I guess that niche is technically filled.
Nice work Joe. Assuming you removed the limiters on the carb? Did that have the aluminum ones? They can be a pain to remove. I didn’t buy one just because the price. I really like my modded MS250’s with a 14” lp bar and chain setup. My go to for tops and limbs

That one is part of the tool kit that comes with the neotec saws. I will look for a part number, but I don't think it has any.
I use a mortar tub, paint brush, and gas.

I think M-Tronics makes that adjustment. Not totally sure though.
This is simply beyond my capabilities but interesting nonetheless. Hopefully I'll find a chainsaw geek friend one day to help me mod my saws. 😉

Right at 70, I do believe
For me it wasn't the cost as much as the weight. It wasn't that much different than the 261 to make it irresistible. Don't get me wrong, I'd buy one if I found a nice one. Just haven't seen one in my area

Same here until I had two of them side by side. The empty power head weight numbers are deceiving when it comes to actually running them with full tanks with a bar and chain installed. How significant the weight difference is, between the two, seems to have a lot to do with how the saw is being used. Old injuries play a part too. Lol
Can you get that much gain out of a 440 Husky strato?
@dynojoemods2764

I think the husky 440 would be a bit behind this one.
46cc poulan (2900) runs really good
Whoever is getting that saw is one lucky sob!
I have a 241. XS Ported. Its my favorite saw by far. I chose it because of back problems and every little bit of weight reduction matters. It would be interesting to see how it performs against a Husqvarna 543XP and that Echo 4310SX you got from overseas considering they are all 43cc saws.
Put the 261 pipe on it just to see
Too bad Joe didn’t show how he completely hogged the intake out on the cylinder,

My apologies brother. I realized that Afterwards haha.
241c built right are devastating lil saws. With a 16” bar and a sharp picco chain they zip thru the smaller timber very very quickly … sip fuel too if ya don’t “gut da stratos”
Definitely nice one but that 4310sx is killing any other 40cc class chainsaw IMHO
40cc seems like a waste of money for the gains you get with 50cc. Just my opinion.

Lighter weight and when built will annihilate the stock 261c. if ya build the 261c equally it will cut faster especially in bigger wood. 241c sips gas too , even when built - unless you gut the stratos that is ! Then you get a mosquito fogger and mileage goes in the toilet vs powa ya gain

G'day DJ, that model wasn't available in Australia for some reason only the mS231 and the mS251 I always try to buy the highest power to weight saw in the class I need but I mistakenly got a mS291 a few years ago and then found out the mS261 has more output ! I got Kevin @MrHangerone on you tube to port it for me its a little ripper now. I like to put petrol in one of those pump up pressure sprayers to wash parts its a lot cheaper than buying pressure packs of carby clean and slightly better for the environment all the best 👍.
