STIHL MS 462 VS HUSQVARNA 572xp

Ғылым және технология

Both saws are using new Stihl RS 3/8 chain. The guide bars are not the same, but that will have little affect on the validity of this comparison.

    I agree with your statement “a firewood cutters dream”. It’s so light and powerful that it feels like you can cut logs all day. I want to cut logs all day with it. I have a 201tc, 261c, 462c, 661c and have not had any mtronic issues. I did update the control module, solenoid and fuel filter on the 661, because of reported Issues with older versions.

    Had the reminder set on this one! Couldn’t have compared 2 saws any better tbh, your comparison videos are the best out there man! Great job. I’ll just say, the 572 simply backs down on RPMs in the cut. Do you think Husqvarna’s firmware is built to compensate in the cut differently than Stihls? Or does 2 cc make that much of a difference? Both great saws regardless. (Sorry for the book😂)

    The both seem to be holding up. A few bearing and carb issues with the 572, but not wide spread. The 462 has significant design changes that were implemented earlier this year. The piston and cylinder are a totally new design, and the case was beefed up around the bar studs. The case was known to crack around the studs with really long bars, mostly with the loggers out west. I agree both are incredibly good saws.

    That's hard to say. Some 572's had crank bearings letting go, but that seems to have been fixed. The 462 has had some issues with the case cracking around the bar studs with longer bars 32"+. Also, excessive piston wear, up until 2021, designed changes to beef up the case, and a totally new piston and cylinder designed. Keep in mind those issues were on really high hour saws, and now, with the changes a non-issue. IMHO, at this point, both saws seem to be very reliable and durable, pick the one that best fits your needs, and don't worry about it.

    Any preferences between M-tronic and Auto-tune? I was told M-tronic is basically Husqvarna's first generation electronic carb technology and Husqvarna is using generation II technology on their newer saws. Can you shed any knowledge on this? I was told M-tronic has or had a lot of "bugs" to be worked out. I can't remember, but supposedly Stihl has or is currently working the "bugs" out over time. I'm not that knowledgeable about electronic carb technology. I do understand the intended purpose and basic function. Which technology is considered better, I don't truly know. I've watched several comparison videos of the 572XP and MS 462... The MS 462 was the timed winner in everyone so far and the reviewers all commented on how the Stihl had more torque and held its rpms better in the cut. I'd love an MS 462, but the electronic carbs are what make me hesitant. I've read tons of horror stories on electronic carb equipped chainsaws, regardless of brand. That's one reason I'm drawn to the 7310P. Sorry for the book... Your very knowledgeable and I'm curious to learn. Thanks!

  • @Andyshine77

    @Andyshine77

    Both manufactures have had some issues, most of which were related to things other than the M-tronic or AT systems. Stihl has has much less sever issues, mostly with the solenoid that controls fuel mixture, they tended to fail early do to contamination, this has been resolved with updated solenoid design, and maybe more importantly a fuel filter that filters to a smaller micron, this has as far I can tell fixed the problem full stop. The 661 was troublesome and has undergone numerous design changes including those I mentioned above. The 462 has one real change and that was a to strengthen the case around the bar studs, the cases were cracking when loggers out west were running real long bars. The 462 runs M-tronic V3. The first generation Husqvarna 5 series saws "ie 550xp, 562xp were a disaster on many levels, the basic design was flawed from top to bottom, this is why the 550 was completely redesigned and the 562 has undergone significant changes, too many to list here. On top of that Husqvarna has suffered wide spread QC problems. The one exception here is the 572xp, so far the model has been solid. When it comes to the technology, most of what you will find on the net is hogwash, M-tronic was developed by Stihl, Husqvarna developed the Auto Tune. Why would a company like Stihl use old tech? hell Stihl has a fuel injected saw, Stihl is way ahead of Husqvarna right now. The real problem with Husqvarna's AT was horrible cheap carburetors, and constant firmware updates to try and fix the issues with the carb it's self, which required you to go to a dealer, most dealers do not have the proper equipment or know how. Stihl has never sent out a firmware update, no need. Besides the solenoid issue Stihl had, they have been very reliable, and if a solenoid does fail, it's extremely simple to replace. I would not hesitate to buy any Stihl saw made today, I would never buy a 562xp, though the 550 MK-II looks OK and I actually like the 572xp. The Echo is a good value and is simple, but it's very heavy for the displacement and out of the box down on power.

    @@obeconoberougle9497 All this is very useful info nd beyond my level of experience. I also have to function off rumours since I cannot affrod to run every saw. I did hear that it would be wise to stay away from the electronic carbs due to them wanting to run lean to gain power, which leads to heat issues. So unless a saw is stated to be developed to run cooler, it could be trouble in hot climates or milling. I also do not know why or how to know what the proper oil to run or what mixture is actually better for any saw. Supposedly i need to run my Poulan at 40:1 but my Husky 555 at 50:1. I have limited access to oils at all so I'm not gonna say what I get stuck with buying for that. But, you could sink a ship with the info that I do not know. @@brotherlove100 I know the electronic carb equipped saws are supposed to read and constantly adjust the air/fuel mixture based upon a whole set of variables. The problem is like you stated. In an attempt to achieve maximum performance they can run on the lean side, thus prematurely wearing the saw out or even causing the saw to destroy itself. I think the technology is a great idea... IF it functions properly. As far as oil ratios... I think 40:1 is an optimum balance. And like I've been told, never run a chainsaw on anything less than 50:1. Today's oils are far superior. Really crank bearing size shouldn't be a huge factor, given the housing is strong and provides enough support. The big end rod bearing is more important, and the main reason to run more oil in your mix, as the biggest weakness in the 372 was the big end bearing, running the saw with a proper tune and more oil "40:1 or even 32:1" will keep the big end bearing happy, and the crank seals wet and sealed up.

    That is true but the Husqvarna is easier start, more reliable and will out live the Stihl between rebuilds. I have had many of both and like both for the different reasons listed but as I'm getting older, I find that I only ever grab my Husqvarna's due to the very low effort required to pull start them.

    I like both saws. But The 462 has twice the lifespan of the the husky. I've killed 2 572's in the last 2 years but my older 462 is still screaming since 2018. And she gets used. Funny, I bought the first 572 anticipating the 462 would wear out😆. I love running huskies, very comfortable saws for me. But in my experience, Stihl just has the longevity. Those old huskies, man did they scream! Beat the pants off Stihl in speed back in the 80's and 90's. Think Stihl has them licked these days.
