Stihl HLA 66 and Husqvarna 520iHE3 Pole Hedgers Conversation

Hey guys, just having a conversation about how the Husqvarna battery powered pole hedger the 520iHE3 compares to the Stihl HLA66. Both very good pole hedgers but there certainly are a few differences between the two. Check out the video where I discuss them in detail.

    Good video mate, I first started using this battery stuff at my time with the environment agency in the uk. having left there now to return to my own gardening business. I’m just about to upgrade most of my gear to the husky battery stuff. I think it’s the way forward especially with the rising cost of fuel not to mention the benefits for the environment. Only thing is the cost of battery’s but I suppose it is all relative with technology at the moment.

    Hey Chris, great choice mate. Yeah upfront cost is a consideration for sure but it doesn’t take long to reap the benefits of the battery gear. Especially if you can charge them via solar as well and look after the batteries. Cheers

    I run the husky 520 he3, Stihl hsa94t and hla 85 and I agree the 4000 cuts is great on the husky. But on the extended pole pruner I like the 3000 cuts of the Stihl as it’s torquey and great for thicker branches up high. Can’t believe the husky doesn’t come with a tip protector and it has that cheap nasty blade cover. But it’s a lovely machine although my favourite is my 94t. Nice video, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Hey Wade, thanks for watching mate. The Stihl does have a torque motor, I have noticed that too. I mentioned that in my full review of the HLA66, it seems to just keep on going even when it gets a bit too think really. Although I still prefer the faster blade speed of the Husky. I too love the HSA94T, probably the best handheld hedger on the market, battery or petrol, if not very close to the Pellenc Helion 2 I just really don't enjoy the cable being attached to me. Cheers.

Do you find it cuts great and smooth. I have the 520ihd60 hand held trimmer and find it cuts largers stems nicely. Just wondering if I should get the hla 86. Would be nice to have a long reach battery trimmer

    Hi mate I have both, both are great but feel the gear box housing is stronger built on the Stihl as I have replaced two bottom plates on the Husqvarna due to hitting fence wire or hidden nails the housing breaks and cost £55 each time. Hope your well and busy 👍

    Is there any reasoning about choosing the standalone versions instead of the combi units other than just having dedicated units? Or is there an actual performance difference?

  • @matthall9099

    @matthall9099

    Husky doesn’t offer the pole saw or hedge clippers for the electric Combi sets. Stihls Kombi attachments can be used on both the gas and electric power heads. So for husky you have to have a stand alone unit.

    what is the max vertical length of each with the trimmer head turned 90 degrees. From your video it appears these two products do not have the reach of their competitors and that is the whole reason you buy a trimmer on a pole.

    They are both pretty much the same. If you want more reach buy the telescopic pole hedgers. These are great for the intended purpose. I wouldn't want to use the telescopic pole hedgers all the time as they are too heavy but these are super versatile.

    The stihl with an ap300s is slightly lighter than the husky with bli200 take off the d handle its lighter., the vents on the back of the husky are all for show as well there is nothing venting the battery so they are just scamming there. The main parts of both heads are metal and otherwise same areas are plastic, the "handle" on the husky head is handy some times though... 🤔 I'm a stihl guy with a husky pole hedger (don't ask how) wanting the hla66, the cut speed on the husky is nice when you need it but I find it never gets used and is always on eco so wondering if that's not an issue with the stihl being slower cut speed. No tip gaurd on husky does my fucking head in and most definitely turns off way to damn fast, I swear I put it down for 10sec and it turns off. In both videos you mention the plastic gearbox cover as a problem but then also day you never have had any issues with it so kind of seems like a nothing point. And finally the price..... is the husky really worth nearly 2x the price for a bit of tip speed as well as having to run a 2nd battery system and all the non sense that comes with. At near 1k for the husky and under 600 for the stihl the husky doesn't really seem worth. I will agree though the stihl trigger system is niggly some times but overall I feel the stihl is better all round

    I’ve used a lot of stihl battery products when I worked for a gardening company. I’m self employed these days and the experience with Stihl means I’d never use them again. Slow rpm, poor battery design, very unbalanced and expensive for its performance levels. Feels like they have sold out and that the brand is just a name to sell products now.
