Stihl FS 55 trimmer clutch drum play
Is this just a matter of needing to be tightened or what needs to be done to fix it. Still works perfect just makes an annoying sound when engaging. Only the clutch drum seems to have play the rest including fly wheel has zero play.

If you think about it the drive shaft pushes the clutch housing back when fitted. I had a similar problem with my FS56R and fixed it by replacing the clutch and housing.
My new clutch and drum does that too... ?n
mine does the same thing but it does that on half throttle also, will a new clutch drum fix that?

something to do with it not being tight enough. if it wont tight anymore than its just how it was made or the brace in the clutch drum is bent. either way its a simple and cheap fix.

Coomon on Ryobis too. Will rattle a bit at low speed. until it engages fully.

Hi actually it ended being normal to a degree. As long as it's not slipping or banging anything inside it should last forever. If it gets too extreme you can just replace the clutch assembly under the clutch plate.

Its an old "problem" with those, only - it isn't a problem, it just sounds terrible.
