Sticky Sesame Ginger Fried Cauliflower | SUPER FAST AND SIMPLE VEGAN RECIPE

This is possibly one of my favourite vegan appetizers to make since it's super fast, simple and soooo good! The star of the dish is 100% the sticky ginger sauce, but you'll have to try it for yourself to see what I mean 🤩

STICKY SESAME GINGER FRIED CAULIFLOWER RECIPE
INGREDIENTS:
Fried Cauliflower:
1 medium sized head of cauliflower (cut into florets)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cup soy milk (or other non-dairy milk)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp arrowroot starch (sub cornstarch)
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp sesame seeds
Sesame Ginger Sauce:
3 tsp sesame oil
2 tsp fresh grated ginger
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
2 tbsp rice vinegar
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp sriracha
1/4 cup cold water
1 tbsp arrowroot starch (sub cornstarch)
Garnish:
White rice
Sesame seeds
Green onions, chopped
METHOD:
Sesame ginger sauce:
1. Heat a small pan over medium heat. Add sesame oil, garlic and ginger. 2. Cook down the garlic and ginger for a minute or so. Next, add your soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, black pepper and sriracha and bring to a simmer.
3. Mix your cornstarch in the cold water, then add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce and mix. Simmer for a minute or 2 until sauce thickens, then take off heat and set aside.
Fried Cauliflower:
1. Preheat oven to 450° F (220° C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, add your dry ingredients for your batter and mix well. Then, add your wet ingredients and whisk until smooth.
3. Add the cauliflower and mix to coat.
4. With a pair of tongs, add your coated florets to the baking sheet one at a time, allowing any excess batter to drip off. Make sure none of the florets are touching to avoid them sticking together.
5. Bake on middle rack for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
6. While cauliflower is baking, it's optional to make rice to go with your cauliflower.
7. Once baked, allow to cool for a bit then place fried cauliflower in a large bowl. Pour your ginger sauce over the cauliflower and mix gently to coat the cauliflower well.
8. Once coated well, replace parchment paper on your baking sheet with a new one and add your fried cauliflower back to the baking sheet. Bake for another 5-10 minutes.
9. Once done, transfer to a bowl with your rice if you made some, and sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top. Serve right away and enjoy!

    Is there a substitute for arrowroot starch?

    Absolutely! The most basic and inexpensive substitute for arrowroot starch is corn starch. It can also be substituted with tapioca starch, xanthan gum or guar gum. All of these substitutes use the exact same amount as the arrowroot starch 💕
