Stevie for sure knows what’s up and I’m thankful for people like him that are just tired of people having the ability to brush someone to the side bc they think being a professional skater is like being a professional gamer and that it’s some type of skill toy but last time I checked skateboarding made me have to dig deeper into the physical mental and emotional reserves than any other sport that I played and I did a lot of them. Not hating on skill toys either I love yo-yoing as well bc ever since in a 4 year period 13 years ago I tore my acl skating while playing skate with the owner of dominion skateboards in VA and then came back better than ever broke my spine and crushed 3 disks 2 years after that came back completely fearless bc I had had the worst injury you could get and 2 years of just watching the homies going up up and away to California where it’s all happening I vowed to make it happen came all the way back and then some and shattered my knee femur fibula and tibia and broke my collar bone all at the same time and then life caught up and I had to get a job. Couldn’t find nothing that did it for me like skateboarding and that internal struggle to override every instinct you were born wirh of self preservation while at the same time getting your body to move through the whole trick just the way that it’s necessary , not to much and not to little, and roll away so last year when I got Covid I saw some yoyo shit on you tube and just starting learning as much as possible as fast as possible with laser focus and heart just like I had back in the day and I love it to. Keep killin it guys.

I don't care how good someone's at throwing a ball into a basket. I don't care what skills someone's got on a skateboard. What I do care about though, is how you treat and respect your brothers and sisters. If you let your ego talk to put yourself above somebody else, because of your skateboarding abilities or whatever it may be, you're not a winner in my eyes. There are people like Rodney Mullen that could run around and gloryfy oneself all day. But instead they are just humble and grateful. That's just my nine cents. I do have to say that I love Stevie's skating and I also laughed about Weck's jokes a bunch. God bless.

Aloha! I felt compelled and left my job during the pandemic as we expected our first newborn. It took a pandemic to realize that I wanted to somehow be back into the skate community, The thought of that scared me but my wife supported our decision, with that being said At 36, watching all the thrasher videos and trying to relieve my rebel youth days it inspired me to built my skate fashion brand as I continue to watch from Hawaii. Regardless of my age, I’m stoked that I can one day inspire the next generation of skaters through my brand. Mahalo and stay amazing! From Paradise! 🌈

I’ve always been a fan of Stevie’s skating but what he is saying seems weird to me. I love the guy and I try to understand his point of view but I can’t agree. It’s not just about talent and results, it’s also about how you make others feel when you do your thing. I understand he wants to be respected for his contribution but nevertheless it seems the skateboard culture never has too much humor and inclusion. The internet makes it more open and more accessible. Maybe some pros are loosing privileges but some other skaters can have a voice in a more democratic way too. That industry standard thing feels elitist or something. I’m not sure all the pros would agree with what he says. I’ll stop there but... meh. Not that cool Stevie.

You're right and not right at the same moment. Ofc, so called "og's" sometime seem to be too serious about business, skating history, culture etc. But at the same time if you have different opinion, doesn't always mean you have to put it out - especially online like Weckingball did - a guy who diss people and the industry just for fun and attention. It's not funny, it doesn't do any good for anyone and some kids don't think about it and just talk shit about someone because some guy told on his youtube channel that something is wack. Skateboarding culture have space for everyone, just respect others and have fun and think first.

@@lub_acz_studio Oh I get your point!! Thanks for taking the time to explain it. I agree with you about what you are saying but I think the example cited, Weckingball, doesn’t apply. The way I see it, Weck is a doing satire of the bully culture that used to be common in skateboarding. He is not a real bully, he’s totally joking with people who are really powerful. The definition of bullying is not that relevant here but there has to be an element of power imbalance. When a guy on ig makes a joke on a legendary pro skater, there is no power imbalance. The « victim » is still so powerful. And satire is used in its best form : underlining a huge ego. (Satire, artistic form, chiefly literary and dramatic, in which human or individual vices, follies, abuses, or shortcomings are held up to censure by means of ridicule, derision, burlesque, irony, parody, caricature, or other methods, sometimes with an intent to inspire social reform.) All that being said, trolls are not satire at all. Nothing good about a troll. I love Stevie’s skating and I admire him in so many ways. I have been a fan since forever. However, I must say his attitude kind of reminds me of the Southpark episode wheb Kanye West doesn’t get the joke about Fishsticks. (Do you like fishsticks? If so what are you? A gay fish)

I totally understand what Stevie was saying about industry standards. But with skateboarding your not growing up saying ‘I want to make it to the SLS or Xgames’ and for your whole youth you train just to try out or you got to go to college for four years to prepare you even more for the professional sport your trying to be a part of. You can become a pro skater at 13 or younger these days. You can’t become a pro basketball or football or baseball player without being out of high school and usually you’ve got to go to college. So skateboarding will always be different in the way you can become a pro. And having a structured format like the other pro sports would just not really work for skateboarding. I mean seriously, do you really think a skater would EVER go to college for four years to ‘study’ skateboarding? Or go to practice everyday with a ‘team’ to train and compete against other colleges? I mean how would that even work? Pro sports=structure, high level athlete, discipline, controlled Skateboarding= no structure, drinking/smoking WHILE skateboarding, not much discipline, no control at all So many differences I’d be typing for a long time...basically the structure to be a pro athlete and get a 100 million dollar contract like Kobe just ain’t gonna happen with skateboarding, even Tony Hawk couldn’t sign for a 100 in his prime or this day in age..

Industry standards should include giving riders a plan for life after being pro or sponsored... Like taking education seriously etc.. They want the riders to sell boards and make money , when the riders become old and companies let them go , skating is all they ever knew. A small percentage go on to become entrepreneurs or assimilate back into the industry.

Yeah I kinda felt that as well listening to this but I mean I feel like that will happen when you have people like Michael Jackson telling you to your face that you’re the best. Skateboarding is weird in that sense. Like you can do all the best tricks, have all the best parts, the best sponsors, win all the contests... yet if you call yourself the best it could be a little off putting.
