only one problem... SRV didn't make a name for himself till the mid 80s... and that was playing Hendrix tunes that were already 20 years old.

@@rupe53 So what is your point? SRV wrote plenty of good songs himself. He also did not die of an overdose at 27. I loved Hendrix don't get me wrong. Jimi Played plenty of copy songs himself. All of the great musicians did.

@@rupe53 I think what the original poster was referring to was the proliferation in the 60s and 70s of local bands playing their hearts out. Whether they were trying to be the next big thing, be local celebs or just make a few dollars and meet girls, small guitar-led groups were everywhere. I was in a couple of them in my teens in the mid-60s. Most of us weren’t as talented as this young man, but our area of NE Ohio produced The Human Beinz (Nobody But Me) and Phil Kaeggy among others.

@@robertcampbell8027 ... we had similar, being within an hour of NYC. The Rascals and Mountain were semi local. Dave Brubeck and John Scofield actually lived in town. These days we have Keith Richards, Jose Feliciano locally. (Meatloaf just moved away) Ace Freely lived here for a few years too. It's amazing how many good bar bands we have these days... and some are VERY young. We're talking high school kids as Dead or Phish cover bands.

Wow, both Stevie Ray and Jimi would applaud this performance - what an extraordinary display of guitar mastery, and with the Voodoo Child performance, we all witnessed an emerging gift of being able to interpret the spirit of one of Jimi's most memorable compositions. May this young man's talent, and passion for inner expression through the guitar, continue to evolve.

@@BallistaBomber ... the production I saw was pretty decent, but more like when you see an "all star" type show with too many people on stage at the same time. At least I still have an ear to pick out the better players and they did eventually boil down a few songs to smaller groups, which were much better. That show was Jon Anderson doing Yes music, so some fairly complicated music. Took 2 guys to pull off "Clap" and they nailed it! (kinda like dueling banjos going back and forth)

I absolutely love it when the teenagers listen to and play their interpretation of iconic artists from my era. My 15 year old grandson plays some.great riffs of Hendrix, Yardbirds and Cream Clapton and Albert and Freddie King. He respects and loves all types of music and.styles. His dad bought him a 59 Les Paul Gold top and a 68 Strat and I would have given him my 70 Gibson 335 Sunburst Tobacco. or my SG if I still had it. Keep the blues alive!!!

Was thinking the same thing. Our attention is obviously drawn to the guitarist since it's two very well musicians known for their iconic playing. However, the drummer should not be overlooked! He was spot on as well.

In 1976 I was in a band at Jordan. Played bass. My first band. Glad to see it carried on. Real music, and this kid shreds it! We won the talent contest too. Beetdiggers rule!

Saw Jimi twice in San Diego. Never saw SRV unfortunately. Played in a band that did alot of SRV though.

Very good.I like how he made it his own.Clapton said about Stevie that he was a faucet turned on,and it just flowed out.Thats how you do it boys.Anyone can imitate someone else,Make it your own and you'll go far.

In the infamous words of John Lennon...." I hope we passed the audition". I believe these kids did just that. Stevie Ray would be proud.

Great ending, too. Loved that ovation. Pure joy.

You have to give to the young man if you got the balls to do a Stevie Ray song and do a descent job as he did he should have won!!! Good job 👍

I don't know why exactly, but this brought me to tears. So proud of those boys.

I like how this kid feels the music, I don’t think he is playing for the audience but for his soul and love for Music, as consequent people likes his music.

It's been a minute....still SM0KIN ! Voo-Doo is one of my favorite tunes. I try to support EVERY musician & vocalist who takes on such a Great number from 2 of our GREATEST Performers......Stopped counting when I heard the 203 cover....Just one word: IMPRESSIVE!

The kids is a fantastic player! Strange thing is this popped up in my feed out of the Blue, I love Hendrix and SRV, Clapton, Peter Green etc, (My Mum and Dad used to watch Clapton every Friday in London live and my mum saw Hendrix Before he became famous in London when he first came to England.) No way I wasn't going to like the Blues/Rock lol... Anyhow this kid is really good! School talent show, this performance just got wasted on the kids watching cos you could see the kids in the audience had no clue either what he was playing his ability or about "proper music" lol 😂🤣😎 Well played.. he won't be short of the girls that's for sure!
