ABOUT STEVENAGE FOOTBALL CLUB
Founded in 1976 as Stevenage Borough Football Club, we dropped the 'Borough' from our name in 2010 when we won promotion to the English Football League for the first time in our history, although it's stuck as our nickname!
We currently play in Sky Bet League One, the third tier of English football. Our home games are played at The Lamex Stadium, which has a capacity of 7,800 supporters. Over the years, we have achieved a huge amount in our relatively short history: including 2 FA Trophies, 2 Conference National titles, a League Two Play-Off Trophy & automatic promotion to League One in 2023.
We're also famous for giant-killing Premier League teams in the FA Cup, knocking out Newcastle United in 2011 & Aston Villa in 2023!

Those of you who are not aware of Butler incident : our keeper had the ball and Butler was making a run through the left channel and was held by his opponent by holding onto Butler’s shirt, Butler shook off and in the process threw his elbow which made zero contact with his opponent but the fourth official had to show everyone his authority and called over the referee and a red was shown.

The way this season has petered out has been sad, but we're going to finish close to the playoffs on points than the relegation dogfight and in pre-season that was my baseline for a successful first campaign back at this level. Strong platform to build from despite the tinge of disappointment you're bound to have.
