I hope something like this comes into play for steven universe. There's so little we know about pearl that at this point it's tough to tell who she belonged to, such as rose, there's signs telling us that she belonged to rose but signs as well saying she belonged to a diamond....... But if Blue peal and our salty pearl were friends I hope we get something like this in the upcoming season

At 1:30 the lyrics could be; "And nobody in all the stars, no Diamond that there is or was" but besides that the lyrics in the original song match the characters and setting perfectly!

I've never seen this musical, but I've heard this song dozens of times, and I can only imagine the main singer is literally flying around the stage strapped in a harness suspended by a rope. I honestly never want to know what the scene actually is just so I can always believe that's what happens

Little Snuggle Well, in the actual Broadway performance she's only on wires for the last chorus of the song (starting just before "So if you care to find me," because in the full score the Emerald City guard rush in and start to arrest Galinda, at which point Elphaba rises up into the air and shouts, "It's not her you want; it's me! IT'S MEEEEE!" and then launches into the final chorus). The part of the song before where this video starts is them in the clock tower with Galinda trying to calm Elphaba down and Elphaba saying she won't go back; there is then another dialogue part where Elphaba tries to give herself flight but ends up enchanting a broom instead. Then we get to where the video starts and it's Elphaba trying to convince Galinda to come with her and face the Wizard; Galinda says no; and then the guards come in. So she does get to fly a bit, but only at the end of the song. Most storyboarding/animatics, however, do have her flying around pretty quickly (though that's because they re-imagine it). Look up "Defying Gravity Storyboard" and try to find the one by EatherStar--good example of how most storyboarders seem to choose to do it (since it's easier to play around with her flying in animation than in live action).

This is really emotive and so beautiful, I love this even more that Canon. Because no matter how much you sugarcoat Pearl and Pink relationship, and Pink wanting to save Earth, she never stopped being a servant and a slave to her diamond... But in here, GOSH!!! Pearl is really empowered and really breaking her chains to be her own genuine person/gem who finally serve no one, and that's a really powerful message

"No Diamond that there is or was." That is actually very cool. That would be like Pearl slightly throwing hints about how Pink Diamond changed who she was, and at the same time saying that Pink Diamond is dead. It would be a really cool double-meaning.
