Steven Spielberg Opens Islands of Adventure in 1999 Along with Eddie Murphy, Patrick Swayze ect...

Ойын-сауық

It was Really cool to meet all these stars and really neat to meet Spielberg before he did Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Crystal skull. Probably wont get this experience ever again . Then again Who knows.
A friend of mine at the time went along with me to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in Orlando back in May of 1999 when a few days earlier when we were there we found out that Many Stars were going to be at the park for a soft opening on May 13 1999. (the actual REAL opening was May 28, 1999) We had to go and wouldn't you know it the first one we ran into was Stan Lee Creator of my Favorite super hero SPIDER MAN. Unfortunately he didn't have time to do an autograph for me at that time. We seen several Famous actors . We talked to Michael Douglas and Jonathan Silverman I do not know why to this day She shut the camera off when Stan Lee gave me an autograph. ODDDD. He gave me an autograph just after he tells a lady " HE BETTER LOVE IT". We also saw Eddie Murphy, Jenna Elfman , Patrick Swayze (he did not give autographs but he was nice enough to smile for pictures this was way before he got diagnosed with cancer. ) Steven Spielberg (we followed him for like 30 minutes you can see how close we were. At one point he turns to me and my friend and says "WELL?" I was shocked he did that and needless to say was speechless so he laughed and walked away. YES I missed my chance to actually talk to the most amazing director of our time. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson .. DOH!!) Ariana Richards and Vanessa lee Chester were also there (Lex and Kelly from the Jurassic Park movies) Now I know you are probably saying HEY we saw Ron Howard in the footage what gives why didn't you mention him well cause there is a FUNNY story to that. Both my friend and I Had no clue he was there till we got the pics developed and were looking through them . Rosie O'Donnell was there OMG what a B*tch she closed Jurassic park down for nearly an hour so she and 2 others could ride Jurassic park by themselves then when she got off the ride a little girl ran up to her and one of her people (off camera) hit her in the chest knocking her back you can see an annoyed Rossie(the queen of NICE??) bend down and have this girl kiss her on the cheek then get up and turn her back on her and walk away. She didn't turn around and wave at her but gave her the cold shoulder. I love what Steven Spielberg did to her on her show that day :) Forced her to ride Spider-Man with actual patrons of the show She looked PISSED in that clip.. Ill see if it is on KZread and post a link if that clip is available. We know there were more there than we could pick out. Have fun and enjoy the star search. Patric Swayze passed away on Sept 15, 2009 Rest in peace. Thank you for your kindness, You were an extremely talented actor who made us believe we could dance and that we could touch the hearts of those who we leave behind. You will be missed..

Too wild. This is amazing. I was there that day, having moved to Orlando to go to film school just under a year prior. I had upgraded my Universal annual pass to include IOA the previous fall, and have amazing memories of going to the park a LOT during the soft openings, when it so empty and not many people knew about it. But Spielberg was my main influence for getting into film and television as a career, and Jurassic Park my favorite movie. When I saw Spielberg wandering around that day, I strategically positioned myself at one of the entrances to the Jurassic Park visitors center after he went in, guessing he’d exit the same way. I just stood there, leaning against the edge of the door frame, not moving. Sure enough, he exited, and as he did I extended my hand and said “Mr. Spielberg”. He shook my hand, and passed by me. I just stood there, literally shaking that it had even happened. I ended up getting tickets for the Rosie O’Donnell show for one day that week, that was shot in the Toon Lagoon theater. 98 Degrees was the musical act, the whole audience got a copy of their CD, and we were all given a free night at the new Portofino Bay hotel. Such an amazing time. Today, I’d not have gotten within 100 yards of Spielberg, in a post-9/11 world and with security today. But oh, back then? It was so much fun. I’ll never forget it. Throughout Orlando things were really cool too, with the opening of CityWalk, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom a year prior. I still live in the area, but miss those times so much.

I have seen POST 9/11 Spielberg videos which are just plane awesome. A great one where one guy happens to be where they were filming Crystal Skull and Spielberg passed by and grabbed his camera and filmed the guy talking on his phone. That would have been an amazing honor. BTW which film school did you go to. I ended up at FMU,, ( I see your from Michigan also) I am going to try running this through Topaz AI Video and see how well it uprezzes it.. I have been playing with it for a while and think I can dial it in now.. (Hopefully the 4k version in the next week or so . :) )

I was there either this exact day, or during another day that Spielberg was previewing the park. I saw him go into the Jurassic Park visitors center, positioned myself right outside the main door, and as he came out put my hand out and shook his hand. As a huge Spielberg fan, someone who works in TV and film today as a career, and largely got into it because of Jurassic Park, I can remember standing there after this happened feeling surreal, and shaking a little trying to comprehend what had just happened. Could probably never happen today, with the extreme security measures everywhere has in place.

I seen a video when Spielberg was shooting crystal skull and he borrowed a fans camera who happened to be also on the phone and recorded the fan. My experience was I was with a friend and we somehow got in his group and I was like 6 feet away he stopped looked at me and said well. I choked he laughed and went about his day. And yes I’m still in the film industry it this day I was a film school student when we went so was she. And lot of the reason I got into film (honestly can we call it that now thanks to George Lucas hehe) was George and Steven ..

Thanks for uploading this. I was in the park as well this day so was looking for me the entire time. I was interviewed for a BBC kids tv programme called Newsround in the UK. Eddie Murphy was behind me in the queue for Jurassic Park. His whole entourage was given ponchos. They came off the ride and just chucked them on the floor. Our ride picture tho was put up next to theirs! Great day!

Had my own experience with Eddie. I was walking in islands of adventure the marvel area I asked one of his people if I could get an autograph he yelled no punched me in the chest and I almost fell back into the fantastic 4 car. I hurt the rest of that day. When Eddie saw me later he waved at us and said hi. When I was assaulted, my friend was recording Eddie I was just in front of her she missed the whole thing. If I knew then what I know now I could have sued for $100k for the assault. It’s why Eddie said it. He seen the whole event and tried making up for it. He should have come over and at least made the guy apologize for hitting me. But like you said they tossed their ponchos to the ground. Jerks they are. I still laugh though we never seen Ron Howard with Eddie till we developed the film.

@@SuperMouseDV id heard that Patrick Swayze was the opposite. Was posing for pictures for everyone that asked and was only there with a friend. In a normal queue was told "has anyone ever told you that you look like Patrick Swayze". Whitney Houston was a few tables away in the enchanted oak with Bobbi Kristina. Was more interested in going on the rides before it opened then seeing the celebs. Being in the UK being on Newsround was the talk of the school when i got home
