My man, if you win a bronze medal at the Olympics you have beating somebody. Those guys are elite athletes. As far the the Aikido goes. I think you are better served with boxing in the real world. I do agree however, that one should not disrespect another style, because of lack of understanding.

I can see where people have questions about this demonstration as they do most times when seeing them. AND lets face it,Seagal has a bad image with the general public. AND by that i mean arrogant, smug, his image as in overweight "people dont take us fluffy guys serious if we have some weight on us" lol..AND Aikido has a bad rap in not being effective and looking quite comical "for lack of better words". I have given my thoughts and opinions on Seagal but over the months im starting to at least accept the guy and appreciate his contribution to the movie world and marital arts scene. WHY? Mostly because of your channel David. AND another note, have you noticed how every division of hand to hand combat has their opinions on all other forms of hand to hand combat? They all seem to look down on oneanother and make fun of each type of fighting skill. How about everyone work together and support oneanother? Thanks for the video and your help in opening up peoples minds to Seagal and Aikido..

Do people really think these guys are gonna break their teeth just for the sake of showing that "this is LeGiT"? It's a demonstration, do people know what that means? Yes they do, but still they keep hating. I mean, if you think Aikido is bad and it's for you that is completely fine. But I guess trashing on Aikido and Seagal is good for the algorithm.

@jamiemccutcheon8302 you do know that Seagal is not training him in boxing, right? He's giving him some pointers and advice for the fight. Viking is actually at a boxing fight camp with a boxing trainer. Back in early 70s Ali was friends with a karateka and asked for advice to help his punches get faster. So it's not that weird that someone outside of boxing to help. Yes he's mostly aikido but he did take karate in his past so he knows how to punch and kick. No he didn't get taught by Mas Oyama lol

When I interview you VS, hopefully you or the great Sensei Seagal can teach me the aikido moves that Seagal used to beat big, bad Penn in Under Siege 2 where Penn tries to cut Seagal with the butcher knife & Seagal who was unarmed moves in a circle, waving his hands until Seagal found the opening to grab his wrist & flipping Penn in the kitchen resulting in Penn dropping the knife & Seagal going to the rear & snapping his neck. It seems Seagal moving in a circle & waving his hands was a way to distract Penn from being able to cut Seagal & I'd love to learn that aspect of aikido from the great Seagal or you if he has imparted & taught you that set of aikido moves.

Great point about Aikido building situational awareness. I only did Aikido for about 3 and a half years, but it developed my situational awareness better than any other art I've studied. I did boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, and several Chinese martial arts. They're all really great arts with a lot to offer, but Aikido is unique if it is trained correctly. Try doing lots of randori with multiple attackers coming at you and you'll understand.

I don't really understand why Steven Seagal would be helpful in training for a boxing match, but hopefully it is. I've never met Seagal, or seen do anything that want either a demo or in a movie, so I don't know what he could actually do in a real situation. I don't understand the way so many people seen to have a visceral hated of the man, though, and the constant slamming of him is getting tedious. If someone thinks they could beat him in a fight and prove he can't do what he claims, then do it. Go challenge the guy, or you're just as full of BS as you claim he is.

Aikido is similar in a way, to Tai Chi as in you don't necessarily use it in and of itself as a fighting art, it's rather an addition to other fighting arts. Aikido used in sword fighting or for law enforcement takedowns is great, but practitioners of it often know other stuff. Haters just show Aikido demonstrations and act like an Aikido practitioner will get their ass kicked, and they base it all on Aikido demonstrations. Sort of shallow minded.

Aikido isn't really an, "Empty Handed" Art like Boxing or Karate is. It's specifically for dealing with multiples coming at you with Knives or other weapons like Swords, Clubs or Staffs. It was more along the lines of what Ancient Samurai would use against one another. So the demonstrations looks different, and the trainning looks different. You can't really go "Full Speed" in most trainning, especially with someone who isn't advanced that can't absorb a technique properly or know how to fall, you'd simply dislocate their joints or break their bones. Mr. Boxer wouldn't know any of that. Most people don't really know what Aikido is about, and it would seem that most Dojos (especially in the U.S.) don't properly teach the Combat Version. Great video.

Seagal brought that to Cinema.

A lot of these boxers/UFC/MMA fighters etc. put down martial arts cuz they think it's not ideal in a real "street fight." And really.. who ever said it was? Martial arts has a lot more to do with body and mind. spiritual. control. It's primary is not self-defense, while I'm sure would be useful. If you are a fighter and put in such situation.. whether its intentional or not, why not be open to everything and not limit yourself? And he told me that what we see in the movies (with Steven Seagal) in many cases is not how the aikido in "real fight" would look like. During demostrations, students are "flying" to.... to avoid breaking arms. If they would not fall in proper way - they would have broken elbows or shoulder. Even this polish teacher had an accident when his partner didn't fall properly and had dislocated elbow joint. End regular man don't know anything about proper falling :) So in the movies, where Seagal does an elbow joint lock (in standing position) the guy does a full rotation in the air :) while real, regular guy - would end up with broken elbow, right in that moment. There's no warnings no "tap-out or I'll break it!" - just one second! And the elbow is done. But it's hard to show such a dynamic arm breaking :) And also when they flying aroudn - it's more... enterteinment :)

I can confirm what the aikido teacher in Poland told you is correct. We went pretty hardcore in one of my classes for a while and had some injuries even among experienced Aikidoka. Our teacher at one point closed the doors to our classroom and showed us what he called "the nasty bits" of Aikido. How to easily modify some techniques to break bones and dislocate joints like you see Steven Seagal do in some of his movies. If you learn Aikido from the right teacher, it's not the joke some people on the internet make it out to be. One great thing about it, is that it is meant to take the high road and gently overcome your opponent without injuring them, but it has the option of causing serious injury if you absolutely need to as a last resort. That's why it is popular among cops, bouncers, prison guards, and others in similar lines of work.

I like to teach that all techniques work and all techniques fail. There are times grabing an arm or wrist will not work. You must throw fist, and there are times like when someone just wants to push you back on the chest. I have used an arm bar and rotated to a wrist throw in a real fight an ended the fight. There are many Aikido guys who have used their techniques while bouncing at bars. Again though every fight requires a certain response to win.

It's gotten to the point where when I show your videos to other fighters/ trainers they straight up refuse to believe you're being serious, utterly convinced ur trolling ! There are a lot of differences between Segal's training drill and hitting a speed bag. For one thing, Steven's training drill seems useful maybe for helping people learn how to fall if that is indeed what he trying to do here. The problem with it, at least in video format, is that no one is paying attention to the way people are falling in this video. They're paying attention to the actor that is making them all look like helpless rag dolls. Two, Steven won't be able to do any of that in a real fight against that many people, but no one expects anything more from the speed bag than what you typically see from someone working on the speed bag. Working on the speed bag has immediately recognizable use and benefit. It's difficult to determine who Steven's exercise is meant to benefit. The practicality of this is just a bit more suspect. At the end of the day, AI don't believe Segal is so much better at martial arts than the guys he's using in the demonstration, but I do believe the person on the speed bag is capable of doing what he does to the speed bag.

@@VikingSamurai weve spoken a number of times always on here, the rocky qoute was made by me on one of your short video,s, trying to remember which one. a short vid you made last week, its too much of a coincidence you using that qoute from the movie. i recall you stating that when winning you will be a legend. and i qouted rocky iv appolo to drago. you dont really think you gonna whoop me now do you ! few days later you are using it in you vid. , hey it could well be just a coincidence maybe but even a cop would think its abit suspicious, not that it really matters some people lack imagination and have to seek ideas for content via other people., regardless good luck with your channel and of course your erm, hahahahaha fight.

I use Rocky clips all the time, I don't remember any previous interactions we've had. Your user name is very generic and doesn't have a picture associated with it. I get hundreds of messages a day throughout KZread, FB and Instagram, so unless someone has a very unique profile, it doesn't stick with me.

@@VikingSamurai well opinions vary, but not that i own any rights of course, just thought it abit cheeky, you bragging of becoming a legend, i give a qoute in response and have it and behold david just so happens to put this very same movie qoute in a video 2 days later ? what are the chances hey ? not like it was as well known or used such as were gonna need a bigger boat ! so chances you suddenly using this same is slim. if you went back through that post you would find it, but doesnt matter not like i can sue you is it lol infact even sly lacks power regarding rocky as irwin winkler owns all the rights . but anyway no problem onwards and upwards.

Yeah but aikido doesn’t work against somebody who is actually trained and trying to hurt you it only works in demos and lacks hand techniques and kicks and realistic lock and grappling techniques I’ve fought and trained against aikido guys who think it’s going to work it they get taken down or overwhelmed with punches and kicks sorry i agree with the boxer here Aikido doesn’t cut as a martial art in my book there are so many that work better and function more theoretically and are battle tested with realistic and modern techniques

Isn't the idea of the aikido demonstration to fend off guys who are charging at you with the intent of tackling you. Or taking you down with a choke hold or something? Obviously if someone stands in front of you wanting to box, then you would utilize a different skill as required.

I can honestly say as someone who has done TMA and training in Muay Thai. My ability to fight and ability to defend myself has went up in one month of consistent MT training. Which is considered a combat sport despite the fact it's a n old battlefield art that got modified to the ring

If boxing was the best then no one would learn Martial arts or MMA, a total MMA guy or martial artist would beat a boxer in a real fight on the street, most of the time, boxers are trained to watch for or know how to block kicks, leg, kicks, head kicks, knees, elbows, watch for takedowns, they are only trained to watch for boxing punches.

Vik Sam - I want to meet the people that are backing you, because there's no way you should be winning these fights and it makes me think this is some kind of esoteric thing within the industry to make money. By all means, make some money and at least you made it to the big screen and a lot of people never have that wanted to, so I support that entrepreneurial spirit, I just can't help shaking the feeling that there's something a little off about your story ...😁
