This is kind of exactly what's confusing about this moron (not you, Seagal), he seems to think SOMETIMES that he really is some kind of superhuman who can't be harmed, but then he talks trash about Van Damme for absolutely ages and then hides in Stallone's house for HOURS when he gets called out. Another way to look at it is, everyone in the martial arts community admires and respects Van Damme. He was a professional fighter with a solid record, and had incredible cinematic choreography that inspired a generation to get into MMA. Seagal on the other hand had a pro MMA fighter add him to his corner for clout, then made fun of him for it after the fact talking about what a clown he was. I'm an experienced martial artist and instructor and I understand Seagal's weaknesses but, Van Dam has to hit Seagal to beat him up and although he doesn't have a ton of power, Seagal has proven to be very hard to hit. And that's his "secret." Segal will keep defending and moving, defending and moving (he even demonstrates this in docu-videos) waiting for that opening to come and when it does, BANG, that's it. He's patient that way, which is what Aikido is all about (he has other training/skills, as well). I think it would be much harder than people think to take him. Some facts are indisputable, as he's a 7th Dan and 1st Anglo to be an instructor over there. That doesn't happen by running your mouth. And, I'm about the same height as Seagal, about 6'4" (I'm closer to 6'5") and it *does* have it's advantages, if you know what you're doing. A smaller person is "faster," even if they punch at the same speed, because their fist has less distance to travel before reaching full extention. By that same logic, the taller person's fist is traveling farther at the same speed so, presuming their technique and conditioning is equal, the taller person should generate more force and hit harder. It's simple physics and the reason they have weight divisions. The way people like Seagal and myself deal with shorter opponents is to stay on our proverbial horse, blocking and moving away until the shorter person either becomes frustrated or tired (or both) and tries to force his way inside instead of waiting for an opening of his own. As he forces inside, we back up, just a tad, creating a space for him on our "target point" then drop the hammer from above, followed by acombo, if needed. It works! If your fighting a much taller opponent and he suddenly "gives you" an opportunity/opening, be ware. 😉 I also know that a lot of people detract from Segal's ability, strictly because of his "off screen" reputation and "other than fighting skills" antics. But that's a mistake qfforded you. whilst sitting behind a computer screen somewhere and that doesn't affect his ability to fight Whether you just don't like him or his ego got in the way, you think he lies or whatever detractors turned you off of Steven Seagal, *do not* think that you're just going to wakk up and bitch-slap him and walk away unscathed. I saw an interview with an extended family member of Steven's. They were talking about his early years, his ability or not to act (he has a persona that fits and you like him or don't) and his off-screen, physical abilities. The man said (in so many words) no matter what else you may Thibodaux Steven, he's good at making movies and beating people up... He has a real talent for his art and." This is a paraphrase from his, I believe (it's been a while) brother-in-law. but, whomever it was, he was family and knew Seagal well. Van Dam is no angel, either. He can be a terror on the set if things don't go his way and he's been sued more than once for beating the crap out of stuntmen, even breaking one's leg. I have seen videos and although there has been discussions ultimately coming from the definition and rules of his fights, VD is undoubtedly an accomplished fighter and is nobody to whom you want to speak evil things about his mother. I honestly think that it would be close as each has a different advantage. or ADVANTAGES that favor him. VD definitely has a conditioning advantage but SS has a "sneaky bastard" advantage. 😆 One thing I've heard about SS and his early years as the only white kid trying to learn martial arts over there (my first instructor was a white kid who grew up in the academy on Okinawa, he can verify) is that he got his ass kicked every day by the bigger, more advanced kids and he had to learn to defend himself to finally keep from getting beat up. And in doing so, he learned a thing or three of his own. This was from a very early interview with him, before he swallowed his ego sword. It was backed up by his relatives. Van Dam has speed, blinding speed and accuracy, undoubtedly BUT, Seagal has speed too, don't doubt that and reach. A lot of reach over VD. And and knowing how to protect the inside places that make good targets (lulling some shorter person into the inside to make a move then dropping the boom on him, works (and is fun) but, it's not easy. It takes skill, natural talent and a sense of timing (which SS is scary good at) and lots of patience, "Repetition, patience and timing." The three keys to success. Things Seagal has. (Or had, in the time frame of which we're speaking). Even at his current, "rotund" configuration, it would be quite the feat to be able to walk up to him and "get the drop" on him, especially for a "random Joe" (who may or may not be well trained). I've seen him is recent "sessions" for lack of a better word and although his footwork has lost much, he still gas great speed and coordination. The other thing that people dismiss about him is his working knowledge of middle eastern philosophy. It's vast. I know he's always quoting some line here and there, not what I mean. If not for his more "disruptive" ego and arrogance getting in his way, which I realize contradicts his proported philosophies, whether training or in contemplation in the studio or home, Mr Seagal has a very developed sense of human philosophy and consciousness in the space and world around us. That, to me, is the frustrating thing. I just wish he would listen to it more and learn when it's time to "put the binders on the BS spreader" (your rural viewers will appreciate that. 😉). Final thought... Could "V.D. beat S.S.?" Maybe, probably... I think it's like a football game with the Packers against (The original) Oakland Raiders. Green Bay has been an unstoppable force many times but has lost, occasionally and the Raiders of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, sharing some of my time "on the bay," were known as many things, including "cheaters, too rough, unfair" and also things like "unstoppable, monsters (good kind) with the first 6'8", 300+lb. player (Ben Davidson) and "The Mad Stork." Ted Hendricks. Another 6'7" player who brought a basketball defender's dynamics to the team, along with Dave "The Ghost" Casper, who completed amazing receptions, one becoming known as "Rhe Ghost to the post." My point is that a terrifically talented team became overshadowed by bad reputations off the field and occasionally being too rough on the field but... No matter the truth behind any rumors or negative connotations, the men with their talents and successes remained. Same could be said about Green Bay and some of their antics. One has to be able to separate the truth from the rumor, innuendo and sometimes just "stink" that can act as a negatively charged, "black shield" around someon(s). No BS Jean Claude against no BS Steven "Big Bird " Seagal... "Too close to call" Which is why we play football on Sunday and fight on Saturday... Because all of the paper shuffling and number crunching can *predict* a winner, right up until kick-off. It just can't *guarantee* a winner because... "Shit happens" and any unpredictable turn of events... Loss of balance, a visual distraction, a sneezs... 😆 Anything at any time is what decides great matches between great athletes. I've got my favorite but I believe we'll just have to "wait for the universe to align" because, somethings just have to be seem to be believed. Regardless of the outcome.

Steven Seagal will win by lightyears. High kicks are extremely easy to be blocked with take down followup. That is done in spetsnatz fight system. And the way Jean Claude streches wayyy too much in his movies will be as easy as piece of cake. Telegraph too much. Seagal actualy uses SFS in the movies. Its way too brutal. Seagal went to Japan but he "modified" aikido. He was inspired by the russian special forces. Its a system designed to kill the oponent as fast as possible. In fact SS uses pure SFS and try to pass it as aikido. Its very very very easy to deflect such high roundhouse kicks like Jan Claude. Literaly ALL you have to do is to deflect the kick and kick the standing leg of the oponent. Low straight kick to oponent knee. And street fight? A such hard pointy shoes like SS, perhaps with steel toes? On full power towards knee of Jan damee's leg? Think about that. I guarantee you if that is done corectly Jan will not be able able to walk for at very least two months. As for leg ankle its even far easier to brake. Just one wrong step and some people break their ankles. Without even a fight. So all you have to do is extend forward your arm and then touch your ear or shoulder while your elbow is pointing forward. Thats it. Good luck to roundhouse high kick me through that stance.

@@LORDVADER357 Seagal studied/teaches "Tenshin" Aikido, a much different and more effective/deadly method than the standard, "Americaized" Aikido. People don't realize this. And yes, he studied Russian style and others, too. He has several black belts and they weren't just given to him, he earned them. No matter what you think of his personality or other things about him, including being fat, I dare anyone who makes fun of him to walk up and do it to his face, say the only thing that can't out run him is a cheeseburger and slap him in the face. Or... Try. Keyboard warriors who've never seen him in the studio (live, not some demo video) and most of whom have little to no experience in the arts themselves have lots to say, hiding in mom's basement. Listen to the interviews with Viking Samurai and hear both sides of things, it's enlightening.

And it’s evidently clear to me nowadays that Van Damme has learned from mistakes in his life, and has proven to be a very humble standup guy. Seagal would never own up to his own mistakes. How well do you know Aikido, KArate, Muai Tai and so...? Van Dame will pack the strongest punch or kick. But for it to be effective it must hit the target and also keep the balance. An Aikido master, like Seagal, will be a very slippery target as Aikido is all about fast evasive moves and unbalancing the opponent on its own movement. Add to it the Aikido imobilizations, all based on counter twisting the articulations. Add to it that a counter twisted articulation renders muscle mass useless and generates an extremely debilitating kind of pain. Based on my little, a handfull of years each, experience in Karate, Judo and Krag Maga, plus my military experience, I would give a fair chance to Seagal in this imaginary combat.

Not a single credential he claims can be verified, nor is it sanctioned by any legitimately recognized body in the martial arts community. He has absolutely no record, professional or amateur ; to support his claim of never having lost a fight. Conversely, we can easily JCVD’s credentials & fight history.

@@Rinzwind I studied Aikido for several years, as well as karate and some boxing. Aikido looks great, but is completely unrealistic. Karate is also great, but far too much punching air and semi-contact competition (dependant upon the style, but at least more emphasis on fitness, calisthenics and flexibility). Boxing and similar sports are the closest you'll get to the pressure of real violence. I walked away from Aikido because it's completely impractical. The only style worth studying would be Yoshinkan, and even then I'd pass as life is too short and there are far better things to do. No martial artist of any style wants to be told that something they have invested a lot of time and years/money into will be ineffective. I understand that, but the ignorance could lead to your downfall. Check out Rokas martial arts journey videos, he was humble enough to admit the ineffectiveness of Aikido despite being a teacher for many years and pursued a different path. Aikido is beautiful to watch by skilled practitioners, but the attacker is always far too compliant. You'll never find a compliant partner in the street. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Yn-JurZ8aMrFoM4.html
