Steve Winwood is a legendary rocker from the late 60s early 70s who founded the group Traffic. His first gig was short lived as a part of the legendary supergroup BLIND FAITH, and then THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP, after which he founded TRAFFIC. Following was his solo careerwhere he charted often. One of the great voices of the rock era.

@@markmurphy558 I saw a doc on him, he was really young when he was doing studio work. Amazing talent who doesn't get recognized enough. Proto prog(traffic), proto metal(Blind Faith with the Cream guys) and early adoption of the 80s sound on his early solo work.

He was the voice of the Spencer Davis group in the 60's as a teen, then went aN early 70's band named Traffic that was hugely popular, then went to a short lived but very popular band, an early Supergroup called Blind Faith with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker. He went on to having a huge solo career, especially in the 80's. Chaka Kahn did backing vocals on his hit song Higher love.

So much to appreciate from the very talented Steve Winwood! In his teens in the 1960s please check out Steve with the Spencer Davis Group doing Gimme Some Lovin' and I'm a Man. When he was with the band Traffic, they created a masterpiece with Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. His collaboration with singer Chaka Kahn as part of his solo career on the song Higher Love is great. As is a live performance with Eric Clapton on the iconic tune Can't Find My Way Home. I absolutely love both the song and video for another of his solo tunes, Roll With It. I've emailed it to people hoping it would comfort and help keep them hanging on more than a few occasions. Enjoy!!!

This was an 'open letter' written for singer Valerie Carter. She was dealing with all sorts of demons and Steve was offering his shoulder for strength. Her music catalog is pretty deep in it's own right. Check out her cover of Ooh Child.

The video is pure '80's. The voice is fantastic, and has been since Steve Winwood was a teenager and the lead singer in The Spencer Davis Group. He was also great in Blind Faith with Eric Clapton, and in the band Traffic. Great vocalist and keyboard player.

It's interesting that you talk about nostalgia because this song makes me feel this so much- it reminds me of my first teenage love in 1987 and somehow when I listen to past music, it does feel more tinged with romance.

Steve Winwood was a child prodigy. He started his career in the early 60’s! He is a extremely talented musician/ songwriter and performer both in a group and solo. He has written many songs and played with the best and he is one of them!

Great reaction Andre, Dominika! The 80's is my 'happy place' too (born in '78, so I am a child of the 80's through and through!) I had a cousin named Valerie (RIP), so I always think of her whenever I hear this song! Steve Winwood's voice is permanently etched into my brain - such a generational talent. Love all his stuff, no matter solo, with Traffic, Spencer Davis, etc.. Cheers!

You may know the voice because he’s been in many well known bands “Spencer Davis group”, “Blind Faith” and “Traffic”. A child prodigy, I think he was 15 or 16 years old when he broke onto the music scene in the mid-60’s. Rare talent

If there is anything I wish back the most it's 80s pop and love songs. Well, to be honest, any 80s genre, really. For me everything afterwards was a huge step backwards in creativity.

Now this is how the really talented people evolved through the disco era. Stevie Winwood started out as a teenager in the mid 60s with the Spencer Davis Group. He was a prodigy if there ever was one, immensely talented as a musician and he had that voice. His sound matured through his years with Traffic and then Blind Faith, and then in the 70s he started putting out solo albums. Disco ruined some really great people and bands, at least for a while. From the Bee Gees to Elton John the quality of the music and lyrics really suffered. But if songs like this are an indication of Stevie Winwood in the disco era, he adapted to it better than almost everyone.

Stevie Winwood is a great musician, a legend, and had great commercial success with this song and the accompanying album. Horrible 80s drums and an MTV (started in 1981) cliched video, for whose nonsense large budgets were used at the time. Music for washing up..., in two ways. There are Traffic and SW songs worth listening to.
