Steve Venable Wrecker in Action Part 2

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the actual recovery process of the F350. Notice in several shots of this video there are only 2 tires of the wrecker touching the ground. And for all you Cummins fans out there, Yes thats a Dodge 5500 pullin out that big Ford.

It sure takes talent to be a good tow truck driver and I don’t care what anyone says. You have to know what your doing or many could get hurt and maybe even lose the tow truck too. Great job guys and thanks for sharing.

some tow truck drivers do the best they could with what they bring to the table. Thats one of the lessons i learned from level 1 training many years ago from The God Father of towing. RIP SC. This is actually a good training video on how to do it another way...

With the size of his light duty wrecker... the heavy weight of that lifted one ton dually with larger tires, gradient resistance added, the steep gradient resistance & miring resistance... it wouldn't have pulled it parallel. or it would've bent that light duty boom. Even a straight on rear twin line pull was clearly maxxing out that truck.... sure, a medium or heavy could do it... but for the size of the recovery truck... he did it correctly. and obviously.. traffic was almost non existent & not held up or delayed . he did fine for the equipment he had.

Looks like a lot of stress on that Dodge 5500 frame and the wheel lift pulling a F-350 with 22.5 tires sideways up an embankment. I believe that is a Century 412 since it only has one cyl. for the boom. That is a light duty unit doing the job of a medium duty if you ask me.I like the part of him shaking his head about taking it to the shop of the owners choice, but I can't blame him he will make more off storage than he does for the recovery!!

on wreckes your suppose to pull up and get out and look how your gonna do it then put your truck where needs to be where you recover out what your recovering without haveing to move the wrecker any where you pull it straight out to your wheel lift then hook and go police dont like you to half to keep movin around they want you to hurry in a safley manner get it out and get gone cause whatever wrecker service is the quickest and the safest and the best is the one they will call the most

It IS textbook what we get asked to do ALL the time in the tow industry. SHP calls and says GET IT OUT. And they dont want to hear "The proper way is going to take more time and another truck." However, as the operator, you HAVE to take charge of the scene and take care of the equipment, and your own safety. There were multiple times in that video that I cringed for the operator's safety.

I just bought a 2005 F250 and read the manual. Ford states that these trucks can lose control and go where you don't want them to. They are heavy and tall but the worst thing is our roads are designed to throw you down a hill and trap you in a ditch with no possibility of recovering your wayward truck. Now look at the bright side. Firemen and tow truck drivers get something to do and make a little money. The auto repair guys have work and don't forget the hospital. Heck this truck most likely is totaled so the local dealership gets to sell another vehicle. This is another version of trickle down economics, the poor saps insurance money gets thrown all around this great nation of ours. After this wreck the tow truck operator will shine up his truck and the hospital will clean the bed sheets and restock, waiting for the next unlucky person to do it all over again. Any body can see that if some deer jumps out in front of you here you have no where to go but down in the ditch. Always wear your seat belt. On TV the other day they actually showed some poor guy being whipped out the drivers window from a truck like this and must have gone up in the air over 20 feet looking like a rag doll after he rolled it about 8 times. I think he lived though. The first thing the anchor man said though was"no word on whether alcohol or drugs were involved." Like that somehow makes it okay to relish in the spectacle of these wrecks and peoples misfortune.

So by the time the cable winds in the truck is almost on the flat and ready to be hooked. Drop it in neutral and let the trans toast.if its going far away.

Just winching it out and doing it right are two different things. No wheel blocks is one of his biggest mistakes, They Dodge slips once and it goes in the ditch too!! Chained wheel blocks front and rear is as safe as it gets. Also he is getting money from the insurance company by telling the customer to take it to his impound yard, i have been in towing and recovery for 15 years and work in the mountains and have seen it all and this man would not be working for us as unsafe as he is.

2 tires touching the ground ? I think that is a dully so it would be 3 tires.

I ain't gonna beat ya up, you got the job done BUT I would have called back for a medium. If your PD dispatch is like mine the call came in and they never mentioned that its a 1 ton dually down in the ditch.

His truck is fine for the job, but he should’ve went at this a completely different way.

Ok. Not to nitpick or armchair, but to refute bitsplace I have to comment. Its NOT a textbook recovery. The truck IS way overweight on the pull. To demonstrate: the F-350 weighs probably 10k lbs, add 15% for stuck factor and 15% for the grade and you get to 13225. The lines, boom and even the frame on the truck may all be within ratings but the tires arent, and the wheelift isnt. A textbook recovery would have involved a Medium duty truck and/or another truck.

Jesse Blanchard you don’t add 15% for “stuck factor” from the looks of it either 75% or 150% of the vehicles weight for mire resistance
