Lord Steve Vai has broken the internet with his new track, "Teeth Of The Hydra." After watching the music video, it appears this song is IMPOSSIBLE to play. It may be definitive proof that Steve is indeed the GOAT.... the greatest of all time. His new axe the "Hydra" is a triple neck instrument with a 12 string, 7 string and a partially fretless bass. It even includes some harp strings. The world has never seen anything like this. What is your opinion on this track and do you think Steve Vai is the greatest of all time? Get Steve's new album below and grab a copy of my music theory course below to get on level 666 FAST muhahaha!

When I was a cashier at a grocery store Steve and his wife came through my line. I looked up and his hair was blowing on it’s own volition, there were no open windows or doors, it just moved. His eyes glistening behind pink tinted sunglasses. The cash register beeped away as I scanned his future meal and I attempted to make small talk. I asked, “So what brings you to the area?” He looked around and said, “We’re meeting some friends for dinner….is this going to take long? We’re in a big hurry” I thought to myself ‘what a dick!’, then like a little bitch I started scanning faster 😂

I was just having a convo with my mom about him last night, after watching this video; Steve Vai is absolutely, bar none, the best guitarist ever in our opinions, because of everything you said at the end. He sets himself apart by making his music feel, and sound good, and while he is a lot of flash, he has never let the music suffer for it. And this proves it, so easily. This is the culmination of 50 years of guitar badassery in one person.

It all comes down to personally preference though, Wouldnt call him goat because he's to comparable to other shredders out there, Satriani, Petrucci, EVH, Malmsteen, there's also guitarist that are better than vai at pharasing, styles, and improv like a Guthrie Govan.

Steve Vai has always been one of my favourites, since early high school when I was really getting into guitar. I remember having my mind blown by a similar 3-neck performance from an old G3 DVD, I believe with Malmsteen...this takes it to the next level. Totally agree your take. Steve Vai ALWAYS starts with (and maintains) musical integrity/ingenuity in his compositions and playing. Even his extended solos are melodic while being technically extraordinary... demonstrating mastery and taste concurrently. This instrument... the Hydra... and the piece he composed for it are a perfect example of his imagination, understanding and respect of the musicality that the device could/should demonstrate (in the right hands). His ability to conceive, compose and then execute the various parts is a true testament to him arguably deserving GOAT status.

4:20 Exactly what I was thinking. I think this is the best piece of "progressive guitar music" I've heard in ages. It's cause Vai's guitar lines are no more overblown than a Zappa marimba or horn line would have been. I actually got strong Zappa meets Van Halen vibes all the way through this. I still don't love this style of guitar music, but there was no point where I was bored or waiting for the music to happen, which is more that I can say for most guitar showcase numbers. It's an amazing performance and a great instrumental, definitely. Plus, the instrument itself is clearly a beast! But...how practical is the Hydra guitar? Can other songs/instrumentals be played on it that don't sound like "Teeth Of The Hydra?" I need more, Steve. We all need more.

That is an amazing track. It would be even more amazing if It was a bit more thrash metal than new age but it is Steve Vai you can't complain. I like the way the fretboard looks all worn out and grimy...he must practice on the hydra for hours on end. 💀🎧

As far as versatility and technicality blended with emotional content and showiness. He maybe be the G.O.A.T. I don’t know if anyone is gonna be able to cover this or even attempt the way he does it. Not to mention I don’t think anyone who has the skills could afford the guitar say they released 2 or 3 more that cost who knows how much 💰💰💰
