I could spend the whole day hearing Steve, either talking or playing, such a genuine guy
Steve said, "Tight bottom is good." So very true.
Larry Dimarzio, please never stop making these type of videos. I love watching them. Would love to see some more "up-close" playing footage from Bumblefoot or Richie Kotzen. Keep making quality pickups & videos Larry, you're one the Kings. God Bless! ~ Hunter

CHEA :D good to see you here, the legend himself!
My brother made an electric guitar in the 1990's by hand. It was 24 fret and had DiMarzio pickups and a Floyd Rose bridge. My brother was an amazing guy and could make alll sorts, R.I.P. Nigel.
So satisfying to hear/see a master like this just casually playing guitar.
'tight bottom is just... good.' - Steve Vai 2016. Words to live by.
Man Vai is an angel what a wonderfull person i hope i can meet him one day in person.
It's normal i drop my jaw each time i see steve vai play guitar on any video?
I have a woody jem, and Its one of the most unique guitars ive ever played. So many different sounds, but all of them quite special. Very spacey, 80s vibes.

It's actually incredibly handy for taking the guitar off in a standing position. It's just in the perfect place to easily grab.
I don't understand how people can dislike this video. Seriously.
The amount of tone in that guitar is unbelievable.....
Is it just me or could you just want to listen to Steve Vai play and talk all day?

sam crawford Of course a lot of that tone comes from Vai's technique. I bet you wouldn't be half as impressed if I were playing the same stuff.
The sound is almost dreamy through head phones with the echo! Bueatiful guitar..and a master playing it. ✌
Im a SD geek but I love this new DiMarzio's Dark Matter 2 .Would love to get one when its available in local market. Steve Vai rules !!!!

I love you Mister Dimarzio. I own around 2 dozen guitars and almost everyone is outfitted with Dimarzios. I just wish that you would make a more powerful neck pickup. I've been using Tone Zone's in the neck forward facing like in the bridge. If you could build them like that with a little bass rolled off it would be perfect!
@dthspll0mga

billhillard Why not try a capacitor in line with the pickup to remove a little bass? Did that to my Tone Zone and it's perfect.

I'm just glad he still has the skill he did in the 80s and 90s. and that he still brings out new products that are special
Got the honour of seeing this crazy bastard live a few weeks ago... Jesus Christ what an artist. It's not the pickups but when he pulled this guitar out on "Answers" they just wailed. Wow. Dimarzio strikes again.
Yes, tight bottom is very good Steve!

I put an original DiMarzio super distortion in the bridge of my les Paul a long time ago and never looked back
I know he is more known as a rock/metal shred guitarist, but I think we should give some credit to those outstandingly beautiful cleans! Class act!
Great pickups Master Vai! It was amazing to see you and your great band in Charleston South Carolina for the Passion and Warfare show! Can't wait for the next
That's one damn good looking guitar!

This jem is very beautiful......like a waork of art. The natural earth tones make it seem very poetic.
I can't get over the presence these pickups have! They have such a great ring to them!
Best pickup demo I've seen on KZread !! Cool guitar too!
That guitar look very very premium quality must say
you can just hear Vai in whatever he plays...his tone and phrasing...im listening to this and im hearing him 20 years ago

the tone is amazing...great job lary...and steve you have a new beatiful guitar and the playing is always wonderful
You heard it here folks " tight bottom is JUST GOOD", words of a wise and awesome individual.
Sweet upper middle emphasis, no overly clanky or harsh highs, and a very smooth not overly boomy low.. nice round tone..
No Words my friend, Just Awesome Thank you.
So awesome! What a combination... Steve Vai and DiMarzio! The new pickups look and sound fantastic.
That neck pickup sounds amazing
That brown tone, my favorite Windows 98 theme...
Love the sound of those new Dark Matters and such a cool looking guitar!!
Beautiful guitar, perfect performance. You are simply the best, Steve
Vai is wonderful. These pickups sound great, too.
Wow, has it been that long now? 25 (27) years? First time I heard Vai, couldn't believe someone could make a guitar sound like that. What incredible talent and passion.
Was surprised how nice the cleans sound. Passion and Warfare came out the year I graduated high school. Who knew I'd start playing guitar on the 25th anniversary. Wish I would have started back then. Thanks Steve for all your inspiration.
that bridge pickup is so amazing.. its sounds perfect

Indeed it is Steve... in so many ways!
Steve Vai one of the coolest people on the planet as usual
I love Steve’s guitar playing, amazing talent he has
the greatest guitarist ever. listening to your playing is like listening to an alien symphony full of color and emotion.
This is the coolest JEM I have seen yet. I just like woody guitars, I have an Ibanez S series with a burled Ash top. Wood grain just has that beauty that you don't really have with a paint job
Steve, thanks for being such a cool guy! Truly inspiring guitar player and down to earth guy.
I could watch Vai play all day
"Tight bottom is just good" he knows what he did XD
this man is a really good player man... i am impressed every time,
His string action is close to the fret board I bet if you blow on the stings notes will come about !! I've always loved Steve's style and sound .. I'll never ever get board listening to him play or even noodle about .. Compelling and rich !!!
Oh my goodness, that is such a beautiful guitar. Wish that was in my collection.
Sounds great. Vai is such an original player. I can listen to him all day long.
It's the new custom JEM Woody!!!! That scratch guard and matching headstock were a brilliant idea by the talented luthier Tak Hosono at Ibanez. I love it!

Amazing pickups!For my Ibanez rg550!!!Sounds excellent!!!!!!!Thanks Dimarzio!!!!
Mr. Vai you are the man, modern primitive is refreshing. I'll always remember the show I went to with my Dad back in 08 I think it was, at the Cleveland House of Blues. Eric Sardinas was one hell of an opening act as well.
An 'old soul'. Very special music, I don't believe we'll hear better in our lifetimes. Steve.
Vai just gets better with age. Incredible.
For me... Vai's sound and note is Majestic.
I will say that's the most gorgeous gem model I have ever seen.

I’m here for the “tight bottom is good” comments
This guitar is beautiful as far as color composition and some other details are concerned, very beautiful.
"The BEST PLAYERS play the BEST PICKUPS" Nothing beats the combination of Ibanez guitars and Dimarzio pickups. Mr. Dimarzio you rock!
That tone!🥇😍
those sound amazing
Larry, you've hit a home run with these. I want a set.
Very cool sounds!!
But honestly, Steve Vai can make any guitar sound incredible.

That tone is amazing
Such an amazing player.
I like that clean setting on the trebble pickup. Very nice indeed but then again just about everything that Steve plays is nice. :)
great video! cool looking guitar, I like that alot, and it sounds even better
Doesn't matter what pickups he uses, what guitar he uses, what amp he uses. The sound is in his fingers. He will ALWAYS sound like Vai... :P

steve vais totally cool i love his music... and his part in crossroads that shit blew my mind.
god his fingers move across that fretboard like his folding a clean sheet of paper very nice, smooth, and gentle movements
I love how they mic'd this in stereo.
0:30 that pinch pre-bend might be the sexiest thing I've ever heard
