To me the Crunch channel sounded good stock but the lead and cleans weren't really good enough as to be usable - after the mods it definitely got a LOT better. I love that it has 3 channels. I bought a special cable from Best-Tronics that allowed me to switch amp channels from my TC Electronic G-Major II - this was great to set up patches for whatever sounds I needed. btpa.com/TSLGMAJ-CS-XX.html?category_id=189

Thank you! If you're impressed with these cleans, check out my modded DSL100 and modded JMP-1 vids - those cleans are even more surprising!

Hey Steve, great video. Awesome playing! Love the sounds you get from the TSL. How would you rate your Bugera 1960, to your DSL, to the TSL? Value your thoughts. Thank you,

Hi Eric. Honestly, comparing the 1960 with the DSL/TSL is like comparing Apples to Potatoes. They're just two completely different types of amp. The Plexi type amp really is all Phase Inverter Tube/Power Tube drive, there's not much in the way of Preamp drive in this type of amp. When these amps were invented, amps weren't meant to distort - distortion was a pleasant side effect of turning the amp up high. That's why they have to be cranked because turned down low, there's no real drive. Now between the DSL and TSL I prefer the DSL. I used to think the circuits were similar, just the TSL had the added channel. In reality though they're pretty different amps. I like the option of having 3 channels, but the circuitry in the DSL just sounds better, more 'authentic'. Even with the modifications, the circuit differences are enough to keep the TSL from equalling the DSL. That's just my 2 cents though. I sold the TSL to a friend & he absolutely loves it - then again, he plays a killer Les Paul through it, it's gonna sound great any way he sets it LOL!

I have had this amp for 6 years now an I love it but I haven't ever replaced the tubes im a noob when it comes to any kinda repair on my gear was just wondering what tubes you would suggest I play modern hard rock/metal

Darth Bieber glad you're digging the amp - I still love mine. For tubes I usually just order them from Voodoo - Trace has records of everything and knows exactly what'll sound best with that amp. You should contact him. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I'm practicing on the TSL100 Voodoo amps Deluxe. The clear channel is deaf. And crunch channel is amazing. Better than any Overdrive

Hey Steve... Which do you like more from the Voodoo line up: The "Mid_Drive"... or the "V-Rock"?... Going tomorrow to my local dealer to test the Mid-Drive.. but they don't have the the V-Rock in stock :(....... (Also...I'm hesitant about spending that kind of money for a 1 channel amp... Are they not making the Dual V-Rock anymore?)

For my style and tastes I prefer the Mid Drive, no question. The tone, to me, just fits better. It has more gain than one would think, given it's name, and if I ever need more, I can always hit it with a boost or overdrive pedal. Not sure on the Dual V-Rock - best to contact Voodoo and ask 'em.

So, Steve, which do you like better: the DSL with the Senes Mod, ot the TSL with the Senes Mod?

+Earle Bailey Ya know, I tend to use the DSL more but that's because most of the recording work I'm getting requires more of a 'Classic' type of tone. Also the amp is currently at Voodoo as I wanted some adjustments to it. I should have it back soon. The clean channel on the TSL is much cleaner. The gain channels, on the TSL, are a bit more metal sounding whereas the DSL's Crunch channel is very classic rock sounding.

Good for you. Some people don't have the skills/desire to mod their own amps.
