    Great demo of this amp. I gigged for years using it. I too used the SD1 to boost the crunch channel for rhythms to get that great boosted JCM800 tone and then used the lead channel for leads with a delay pedal in the loop. Using the lead channel for leads allows you to boost the mids in the EQ and give yourself a volume boost so you don't have to rely on sound guy. Great amp with great pro features. Hard to believe these came out over 20 years ago.

    Great video man! I do have the same head since 2014. However, its manufacturing dates back to the original ones released in 2000 which had a severe defect on the mainboard causing a lot of problems on the power tubes, so despite sounding awesome always came with great trouble. Luckily I was able to get the replacement board from Marshall this year and now the beast is alive and well! 🤘🏼🤘🏼

    Once upon a time, when I was young, dumb, and full of dumb, I owned this same amplifier. I used it with a not so great Vader 4x12 cabinet that I thought was excellent (it wasn't. not for the sound i was looking for at least.), and no overdrive. I had no idea how to dial in tones properly, and used the depth punch (sisu remover) and tone shift (wet blanket) buttons (bad move). I h a t e d the amplifier. Now I'm a bit older and much more experienced... I wondered about picking up one of these again to have around the studio, and how it would do. Now I know. Thanks Euge!

    Glad to hear! Thanks! Lately I've been using the Bogren IR's more 'cos the pack is so simple: 27 IR's and they all sound great and are mix ready. But on the other hand I use Ownhammer's IR of a Marshall cab w/ V30s a lot too. Both sound great! Bogren's IRs are a bit more metal whereas the Ownhammer Marshall is a bit more "traditional".

I hear a lot of people talk about these amps being too fizzy, but once you get the amp master past 2 or 3, holy shit. Lol. And I really cant complain about the onboard spring reverb either. Exellent review of this "beast". I have one since 2005 and remember it was at that time marshall flag ship, before JVM came in. People hate this amp because they don't know how to properly dial it. This is not bedroom amp and it loud as hell, with volume (crunch and lead) at 4 its only gettin started. VPR switch is also one big shit. Its marshall, it must be loud. Btw. Its very underrated amp, for me much better than DSL.

    great video man. I have the tsl602 version of the amp...I experiment with both a TS9/TS808 boost and an 10-band EQ at the front and both make the amp "bark" like a beast although the EQ gives you a more room to shape the sound...however my amp sounds a bit "dry" compared to yours and I was wondering whether this has something to do with you actually recording the amp through the mic or if my tubes are fucked up..:P...anyway good work...I would love to see a comparison of the JCM2000 with more "modern" amps like the 5150/6505 or the engl powerball...please make one if you can...:)...one question...are you in drop D tuning?

    Thanks! Glad to hear! I actually used Suhr Reactive Load IR -> audio interface -> Logic and not the mic’d cab 😊. I had the master around 5 (below that the amp sounds a bit fizzy) and there’s no way I could play with that volume in the apartment if I’d use a 4x12 cab 😁. Probably the tubes. Mine was a bit dry sounding too but when I changed the preamp tubes (JJ ECC83 S to the first position and ENGL ECC83 S to other positions) the sound got better and not so dry. I have a plan to do a comparison video with my 5150 BLOCK letter but it’s in another country and ’cos of the COVID I have no idea when I can bring it back home. That being said I think especially the Lead channel of the 2000 sounds more ”modern” (at least tighter) than 5150. My 5150 is from ’92 and the JCM2000 from 2005.

    Euge, you’re saying that you have the master cranked and it’s running into something else that makes it more manageable in the room without blowing you out? What are you using again? I can’t seem to remember what you said in another video. Like you can crank the master on the amp and then you turned down another device to make it where it didn’t kill your ears. Would love to know what you use there.

  • @EugeValovirta230V

    @EugeValovirta230V

    3 жыл бұрын

    The bias needs to be adjusted on tube amps (in general) every time you put a new power tubes no matter the brand (of the tubes and the amp). That’s not actually modding but if you put new power tubes without biasing the amp to the said tubes it’ll sound most likely like shit or in the worst case can cause damage to the amp. But if the amp is fundamentally cold biased by the design, like the original Peavey 5150, you can throw whatever tubes in it and they’ll work.
