I enjoyed this the first time around (3 years ago) & enjoyed it again now. Absolutely one of the all time greats (one of my 'Holy Trinity' guitarists with Gary Moore & Jeff Beck)! Still vividly remember meeting him in the 90's after a SMB show in CT & talking guitars/gear, and my signed sweatshirt still hangs on the wall of my music room. And seeing the Dregs in college/early 80's. RIP to his wife...😢 Interesting to hear him talk about the financial side of recording. He did a live interview on WPLR (New Haven CT) in the late 90's (prior to playing Toad's Place) that I still have taped on cassette where he was asked about record companies' obligations to its musicians & his viewpoint that it's up to you to protect yourself before you sign any contracts, and that if it's not spelled out in the contract then it doesn't exist. A really refreshing point of view! Also talked about fixing his gear himself on the spot minutes before a gig. BTW love the gear talk, I believe back in the day he was using a Shadow synth (and maybe also an Ensoniq ESQ-M) routed to a separate amp along with his 'regular' guitar sound/amp & mixed the two - I think that's what allowed him to do stuff like simultaneously playing the guitar/vocal parts of Zep tunes. The (Dixie) Dregs are IMO on the short list of most talented bands ever (with Mahavishnu). Steve's an incredible songwriter, he makes composing really interesting instrumentals seem easy. Wish I could get my hands on some of those early Grit recordings (or for that matter by the Rock Ensemble) - do they exist? BTW nice Grit pics on Facebook (from '71)! Morse & McLaughlin? Hell yeah! And how about 'lumping in' Al D? Even Rik Emmett... Almost single-handedly 'saved' DP - no it's not 'classic' Purple but it's really good in its own right. Any more Flying Colors albums coming (having not watched this entire episode yet)? Really enjoyed that Living Loud project! Would like to hear about his being expelled from the 10th grade for refusing to cut his hair😎. Supposedly that set him on his path to music greatness - thank you to whichever school expelled him! (but hey kids - stay in school)

Steve said "I may not have been the first guitarist in Purple but I want to be the last. Such a shame as he, pushed that band, helped save them when he joined, and was with them for over a quarter of a century. Met him at his first UK Purple tour, he came out at end of the show and asked us if there was too much jamming. We told him how much we loved it. They played for over two and a half hours that night, is was so good and I loved that they played 'Rat Bat Blue.' Caught a train to London and saw another show.

Sometimes, when I watch (or even read) an interview with a musician I admire, I find myself thinking, "I kind of wish I'd never seen that, because it made me think less of them as a person." That has never happened with Steve Morse. If anything, I always end up admiring him even more. Thanks for the terrific interview, Pete!

When I saw him with Albert Lee at the Palomino in North Hollywood in 1990, I was star struck and said hi while he was warming up; he looked at me and said "You look familiar..." Wow. I am extremely sad about obvious fact that Steve is obviously disappointed or sad about the ending of his DP tenure. I always hoped that he should be The Final Deep Purple guitarist..... And in my opinion he should be. When his arthritis issue appeared in obvious way about decade ago (I saw one DP show where Steve for the first time obviously struggled with lots of pain and basically - usually he is flawless guitarist and I have never seen or heard him playing with mistakes he made that night), I was really worried but he adapted incredibly well in next years.... then in 2015 I think we saw Simon McBride with Don Airey solo band - that was the night when our group of fans made an immediate conclusion "tonight we saw new guitar player for Deep Purple if Steve´s arthritis would get worse...." - but noone from us really wanted to see that coming. But it happened in even more tragic circumstances. I LOVED what Steve did for Deep Purple and I want him to know, that for many DP fans - he is really missed a lot! It´s nothing against Simon, he is fine guitar player, but when Steve says that Simon probably fits them better than he did..... no Steve, I cannot agree with you on this. Once, I still hope and believe that Steve would join them on some one-off concerts of events as special guest.... and I really hope for one thing - I really hope they will keep Steve´s material in their set.... Those songs deserves to be played!

I would love to see a show but the cheapest ticket I could find at The Vogel in Red Bank New Jersey is $219 . I just can't afford that right now . I will continue going to see some good Jazz in NYC at $15 - $45 a ticket to see some phenomenonal music .
