Steve Morris alcohol-burning big block Chevy - dyno tuned

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We fired up this beast and performed a complete race break-in. We tuned this Ron's Flying Toilet Alcohol Injected motor on the dyno and troubleshot the starting issues. We got this tune spot-on building from 545 horsepower to 924 HP, burning a fraction of the fuel that was no longer wasted out of the exhaust.

    Good job tuning. That Valve Pass Side Rocker Cover has a notch for a side mount F2 ProCharger originally. Send that cover back to me and i will give you one without a notch.

    Once you understand how to do a leak down. And the difference between a naturally aspirated setup. And a boosted setup. These work pretty well. You lack the tunability that you do on electronic fuel injection and you lack the tunability that you have on a carburetor. But methanol is much less fussy. So you end up with some rich spots and lean spots that work pretty good

    What was your total timing number? I also run a Ron’s flying toilet on my 505 bbc and I’ve been teaching myself to tune this setup and can use any help with total timing. I haven’t been able to get a complete run to look at my plugs. I use all MSD ignition with their crank trigger setup. Thanks

    I was listening about the injection system. So is that mechanical injection into one big mechanical throttle body?

  • @internationaldynoauthority693

    @internationaldynoauthority693

    There are separate nozzles, There are NO injectors..... Fuel is delivered at pressure through a nozzle...... Continuously.

    Yes, the answer also to the throttle body portion is that it's one big flap. That opens up to allow the air in. You are correct

    It's an older style of setup. Inside. It doesn't look anything like a 4.3. But, a lot of guys use it. It works fine. It is definitely not as good as a modern day. Gasoline carburetor. Put that same engine, on q16. And put it on a good carburetor. You're going to make another 100 horsepower. And going to run a lot better start a lot better. But this is what we had to work with. And, in the end it was awesome. It ran good at started good and it was just a lot of fun

    Yes, the pulley is always two to one. So if the RPM or 6000 the pulley's going to pull 12,000..... That will make about 160 lb of fuel pressure to 165 lb of fuel pressure at full RPM

    Hey there ive read your reply and by all means i meant no disrespect as i do have a little harsh way of speaking which can come off as an asshole. I just hate seeing cylinders constantly getting washed in fuel and ruin the cross hatching and rings especially on such an amazing piece. Ive ruin lots of engines myself by fuckin around with early efi systems

    I also totally forgot to mention the block heater trick definitely arose from thousands upon thousands of dollars in oil changes alone and research and trial and error. Also wouldn't it be better to get it started and get it to a relatively decent operating temperature? By saying that it's pretty obvious that to do that it would most likely be easier to quickly swap the toilet out for a carb for that process and then swap it back because for the reason that from gasoline compared to methanol the quantity of liquid to liquid is not even close to each other. Listen it's clearly obvious that it isn't you gentleman's first rodeo but i just thought I'd make a suggestion whether or not it's a decent one or not remains to be seen lol. But I'm sure I'll know if u respond. Cheers men

    So tell me one good reason why in 2024 your primitive flying toilet isn't flying into the dumpster. To have a beautiful high end engine like that and to not have complete and accurate fuel control is an absolute joke. Sorry to rain on your buddies parade but he needs to get out of the stone age.

    When competing in a class where ALL electronic controls are prohibited, you have a few choices: Carburetor, flying toilet, mechanical injection. While it would be nice to go straight to a dual injection,all run from HALtech. It would move his vehicle to another class. TRY to think of ALL sides of competition.... Rules are in place to maintain certain aspects of competition. Classes are put in place, so you CAN, run on a budget ......and have loads of fun. While tuning a Haltech would be a lot of fun. And would be certainly much more intricate, we would have a lot more control. Unfortunately, or, fortunately, in this case. It's not allowed. And, these guys have a lot of fun on a week-to-week basis. They can keep their budget down under $30,000 for the entire season.

    Our customers arrive, with every manner, of control unit for fueling. We are a tuning shop. Shop. Are not here to tell customers, that they should use this type or that type of injection or fuel. We are not here to make excuses for them either. We are here, to tune them, with in the absolutely best Bubble of perfection that we can based on, what they bring. Tuning is tuning in is tuning. Is tuning. Whether it's a carburetor either, or a Haltech.
