built models when I was like 10 -13 yrs old in the day, won 3rd place in the custom 1/25th class at the washington state fair in what 73-74? it was a baby blue 50 ford custom deluxe club coupe, I modded it up real nice, quick job did it on a whim over the weekend for the custom 1/25th class, I only entered 3 cars, 2 nascar's and the custom.. fairly pedestrian compared to what's being done today but I went all out, yellow paint dipped thread for plug wires.. dip the ends in black paint for the spark plug isolators, other end when pants bout half dry you can bend the ends of the semi dry paint for the bent ends on the distributer .. oh yea I went all out.. id carve like MSI boxes using spare plastic pieces, paint it up perfectly under magnifying glass and 2 horse hair strands.. .. I spent about 20 hours that weekend detailing out that 50 Ford.. earned me 3rd place and $50, for a kid back then it was a decent lump of money, I had no idea they paid money out.. after that I was on my own so I had to work, never built another.. dunno what the parents ever did with all my models, easily 50 cars, trucks, cutty sark, 1/15th scale 63 diamond back, 1/20th scale kenworth sleeper with trailer, I made it into pettys nascar hauler, I was really into petty back then, built my own wall shelves so forth.. had all the nascar guys, most all.. an MPC or MPT nascar kit was like oh $1.50 to $2.25 .. a lot for a kid like me, pulled a lot of weeds and bucked a lot of hay for that money, i'd do it all over again given half a chance..
cool vid thanks lee
Doug, good to hear from you. That whole table was outstanding, especially the Mopars Great video
Fantastic models, i need to go to that show one day, love the concept
I have three talented friends who are decal makers. But I think back to the mid-'80s when I bought lots of Letraset dry transfer lettering from the art $tore and rubbed them onto decal paper, then covered the art with decal liquid and prayed it didn't wrinkle the lettering.
Get well Steve!! We need you in the car world!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thanks for the tip!
Doug, I'm just about ready to start the engine compartment on the Jeep. One of the things I'd like to do is wire up the sparkplugs. I just got the 30 AWG magnet wire. I'd like to use this wire with insulation for wire boots.
Dynamic Don Maverick!!
Love the video Doug and Steve's builds are amazing and I have several original Johan kits and would really really love to see moebius do a maverick model ❤
I hope Steve is feeling better with each day. Many are pulling for you and can't wait for your return! Shifting gears, how cool would it have been, if Chrysler had "saved" a couple more Turbines and turned them into A.W.B's? Aww, what might have been 🤔?
Thank you - great video!
I have a promo of the 79 cadi. Bought it at a swap meet.
Get well Steve!!!!
Im waiting for a drahster and bob gliddens pro stock thunderbird to show up in a few days. Then i ordered some resin part for a custom build pro stock pinto ill work on over the winter.
Sure hope Steve's doing well. Stay safe sir. 🦇🥸
Great stuff Doug. Thank you. The inside of Steve's head is scary & fun all at the same time. lol Such imaginative & awesome builds. Good to see Mr. Hanmore in the mix.
used to build, early 70's, I can give you a lot of finish tips, buffing get it to look like a steel automobile not a plastic model . . . first off stop using lacquers, polys, wet sand and buff just like car paints, clears, same thing, use the finest paste buffing compound available... use dremmel, I used drills with home made wheels to polish the contours cracks a crevices, it all matters, learn to paint where all you need is the final polish stage, the mirror, the difference it makes is HUGE
Doug, got a question for you. Once an item is clued to another piece, can it be taken apart? Seems like I made an assembly mistake. I used Tamiya extra thin cement.

I think the only way is to cut the pieces apart. Tamiya extra thin melts the plastic, effectively welding the parts together. Depending on the part, an X-Acto knife or a razor saw would be best to cut them apart. Trying to pry them apart will end up destroying one or both of the parts.

Any of these cars built for sale?
hello sir, I posted on a year-old video of yours, I am reposting here so you may see it, it is in regard to your cloth wires... Hello sir, I just came across your video. I am here in central Mexico, Queretaro. you have a very nice set of videos; I am thinking about joining your patreon... ;O) regarding your cloth wires, I did a scratch build of a Messerschmitt Me 262 jet engine, all from scratch...@ 1/24 scale. ...for the cloth wires there I used lead wire the kind for fly fishing, it is very easy to manipulate and to drape it where it has the effect of gravity pulling on it. ... then I use Tamiya tape and cut that to width to scale... ... then, and this will take some practice and patience, but I can tell you are like me, and this will not be a problem...jiji I wrap the tape around the lead wire leaving a tinny space to scale to create that wrap effect. .. you can either at this point spray a varnish, I do matt, to seal everything, then place and manipulate it on the model, OR place and manipulate it on the model and then spray a varnish, I do matt. I hope this helps... keep the muse alive... cheers...
Wait, when was this recorded? Is Steve out of the hospital?

@@ModelCarMuse We need to start working on him to get his own channel. Do you think challenging Rick to a build off would get it done? Thank you for answering my question.
What happened to Steve? I checked link in a post. Nothing.
