    BULLSHIT! Steve's basic laptops in the early 1990s where over £3500 with a 3GB hard drive and 32MB of RAM. That's £6000+ in todays price. His anniversary computer in 1998 was £6000 upwards. You never had it so good with todays Apple and its prices. I know, I've lived through all of these decades!!!!! And the quality is far supper now than in the 1980s, 90s or early 2000's. My gosh! 3 жыл бұрын

    @@baileycrawly He is good salesman but if to look more closely at Apple products today then it is true that not everything seem to be priced to be competitive really. 1. Mac Pro - good price as long as you do not invest in the cheapest edition. In case of the cheapest one easy to find out that PC competition for same price could be easily a better option especially considering Apple's release schedule of their products (see Mac Pro 2013 as an example but also even iMacs really have this issue from time to time). 2. Mac Mini - good and fun computer but tbh if you do not need that performance of SSD (and let us face it - most people don't) then Intel NUC + SATA SSD drive that will do as good costs easily less than 50% of Mac's price. And btw you get replacing components in case of failure is also cheaper (not like disk drive soldered into board). 3. Apple Watch - fun product but let's face it that currently in era of mobiles (such as iPhone btw) the most common usage for such devices is activity tracking which you can do again with device for half if this price. Rest of what Apple Watch provides is definitely fun to have and use but then it s nothing that people definitely need. 4. Some accessories. Not just some display stand but but even i.e. Mac keyboards. Compared to i.e. Bluetooth Designer by MS slightly better really (if at all) but at least 100% more expensive. 5. Also btw prices for those modern top tier iPhones are questionable really. Fun devices? Yes. Any game changing either to customers or other companies? Most certainly not. With devices such as iPhone SE being actually properly priced for that they deliver by comparison to competition those top tiers are simply way overpriced.

    @@E620SE Literally the first laptop in a decade that Apple's made with good value in mind. I remember in college buying a Dell that was complete trash and kept breaking down every month. It was sleek and pretty but who cares if all your components are junk? Bought a cheaper MacBook base model that even had a GPU and still works to this day. I've dropped it a dozen times and even coded an app on it and run tons of compiles. Solid components and engineering means you can own and use a laptop for 10 years without issues. I can't say the same for even current Macs as I've seen countless in my old job overheat or broken key switches. The Air is the first Mac in a long time I can recommend to everyone. Not much is gonna go wrong when there's no fan and moving parts with a more traditional keyboard. Even the SSD issue seems overblown and mostly due to Rosetta. My M1 writes about 30GB per day and I'm a pretty hard user. I just make sure any app that's emulated is not running in the background when not in use.

    To be fair, they're not. For example, XDR display is near-reference quality at $6,000, while other slightly better reference monitors are $10k+ USD. Same goes for the MacBook Air, you're not gonna find Apple's quality hardware on any other $899 Windows Laptop or Chromebook today. The base model iPad at $340 is the best affordable tablet today. Sure, some products like the MBP 16 and iPad Pro are relatively very expensive, but they also happen to be Class-leading with no other better alternatives in that price point. Tim Cook is doing a good job, he's not Jobs but he knows exactly what he's doing.

As for the iPhone... if you don't think the iphone changed anything then there's really no point in having this conversation. It literally set the blueprint for modern mobile computing. That was Steve's true gift, not technical wizardry, but the ability to apply technology in ways no one ever imagined and in turn, inspire newer more practical innovations. It's like the Internet, it was designed for researchers to share work, but now look how big it's gotten and how many innovative ways it is applied in our lives. As much as I have loved using my 2015 edition, the first MacBook Air wasn't very practical, I read somewhere that it had hard drives similar to the ones found on the iPod so that it could be as thin as it was and a lack of ports which other laptops had at the time. Also you needed to pay $1000 to upgrade to SSD storage. This was at a time when thin notebooks weren't very common so they were expensive, but it wasn't a laptop that was worth the price(at least at the time). Today, the MacBook Air(in the USA) costs $999. And its well worth the price because of the M1 chip.

If you look at Steve’s old interviews where he talks about the future, so much of what he says is directly seen in apples lineup today. They are truly making the best again, at insanely affordable prices for consumers and now they are actually cheaper than their competitors in this space. (iPad pro for $799, iPhone 11 for $699) They are very much following his vision as best they can in recent years again.

He had the goal to design their chips in-house and managed to transition both the iPhone and the iPad to Apple Silicon before he died. The credit I would give Cook is that he at least didn't cancel Steve Jobs initiative. My guess it that their whole product line-up might already be Apple Silicon by now without change in leadership but that is my speculation.

I do not dispute that Apple use to give value in terms of Software & Security to price although the former is not really true any more with the likes of Final Cut 10! Apple still puts DDR3 in it's top Macs when I can go out and buy a Windows PC with DDR4 and better overall specs and still come out cheaper! I hate when people say Apple's Mac OS is optimised all that means is that Apple is unable and/or unwilling to allow it on non Apple Hardware, Windows 10 is optimised for Windows Surface devices people have never had a problem but Microsoft still allows it to work with almost any device dispite is configuration! BTW Mac v Surface PC/Ultrabook or iPad v Surface Tablet. MS devices cost about the same as the Apple but you get much better hardware for the value!

All my electronics are Apple. The best in the industry. Just picked up a new Iwatch series 3 for $129 at Walmart during Black Friday. Great price for a great product.

    It's *because* of Steve that Apple still has it's momentum. I highly doubt it would have ever taken off if Tim instead started it lol. I'd loved iPhones until iPhone 6 but after Steve passed away, Apple has only went ahead with "reactive" changes and nothing innovative to have an "industry-first" change except for removing headphone jacks and chargers and boosting CPU and GPU clocks by adding on-chip AI and naming it "Bionic". There's a reason it's not able to pull *new* customers into it's ecosystem anymore.

    How does the 2016/17 MBP neglect creative professionals?

  • @RobLate

    @RobLate

    6 жыл бұрын

    Tong Zou That’s the problem - people in one industry telling others what ‘professionals’ want. The goal with USB-C is to declutter and amplify usage. Do you own a 2016/2017 MacBook Pro? I do. Are you a creative professional? I am. I had a 2013 MacBook Pro for 4 years and as I’m not a photographer / videographer I didn’t use the SD card slot once in 4 years. Nor the display ports. Not even the 2nd USB most of the time to be honest so why would I be mad at losing those ports? A lot of the time people moan that they want it all and tend to negate the benefits outside of their box. As a consumer you have every right to an opinion, but the goal was to have 4 multi-function ports to connect peripherals that suit your particular profession instead of just chucking everything on there whilst being able to utilise ports that have superior data throughput and charging in any port. MagSafe was cool, but who buys a £2000+ laptop and leaves it in a compromising position? Should Apple also include a guide detailing how not to be a fool? I’ve travelled all over the world with my laptops and phones and I don’t break them. The benefits outweigh the setbacks IMO - I’m a music producer and all I need is one dongle that gives me HDMI, 2xUSB-3 for midi controllers, Thunderbolt 2 for an Apollo interface, and USB-C for charging, all through 1 port. As for power - I can run projects with 30+ tracks, multiple instances of Serum, Battery, Sylenth, Massive - you name it, and I’ve yet to experience any dropouts in the Kaby Lake 15” MacBook Pro (which is a quad core, not sure what you meant there). Each to their own, but don’t project your own peeves as peeves of every creative profession because that’s not the case at all.

  • @RobLate

    @RobLate

    Tong Zou and perhaps they don’t use the display ports? Everyone cried when Apple removed the Ethernet port, but who uses that when we have gigabit wireless lines now? Same goes for the disc drive. All you need is one multi adapter and you’re set, and in buying an adapter you also have the benefits of USB-C for use now and with your future devices.

  • @RobLate

    @RobLate

    You can get an ethernet to usb-c adapter for £4 that clips onto the cable permanently for those probably not so common situations. Problem solved. Now go buy a Macbook ;)
