Julien’s Spotlight History and Technology Auction - July 11th, 2024
Join us for an extraordinary event at Julien’s Spotlight History and Technology Auction on July 11th, featuring a navy blue pin-striped Brioni for Wilkes Bashford suit worn by Steve Jobs. This iconic suit was donned by Jobs in a January 1984 marketing photograph taken by Bernard Gotfryd to celebrate the release of the revolutionary Macintosh Computer.
The Macintosh made its unforgettable debut on January 22nd during the Super Bowl, in a now-legendary commercial directed by Ridley Scott. The ad depicted a dystopian world filled with mindless skinheads, symbolizing conformity, which was ultimately overthrown by the powerful force of freedom and rebellion. The commercial concluded with a reference to George Orwell’s classic novel: “On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like 1984.”
The suit itself is a masterpiece, made of 100% cupro with thin vertical stripes throughout. It includes two front pockets, one breast pocket, three interior pockets, grey buttons, a cream silk-blend lining, and a size tag reading “39/49.” Accompanied by a pair of matching dress pants, size 39L, this lot also includes a vintage Apple Macintosh pin found in the pocket and the original Wilkes Bashford brand wooden hanger. Please note, the white shirt is not included with this lot.
