If you can't feel this song, your dead. Amazing.
The first song does not make think of a special lady you've not
Probably the best version of one of the greatest songs ever written. Sublime
I was lucky to see Steve Earle many years ago at Jericho beach during the folk music festival. He sang this song when the sun was setting and life at that moment was perfect.
The irish musicians add depth to this bring it to another level Emmylou feeds off this sorrowful sound ......takes it home...
The people who thumb down this need to go look for their souls because they seem to have been lost.
Seriously music doesn't get much better than this. Two of my favorites and give it up for the band, extremely talented.
Emmylou Harris steps back from singing the "just too high" line. She has seen so many talented people waste their lives and they are not her words. She is one class act.
The emotion in this song is just gut wrenching. Steve is brilliant and Emmy lifts the song to celestial levels with her harmony. Together they are just heart-breaking. The harmonica and Violin add such a haunting feel. A fantastic arrangement. Such a pleasure to have such simple yet, fantastic music.
Steve Earle has been my hero and inspiration for many years. As a recovering addict myself, I've always found great happiness in his gits, and grateful to God he lived to continue to share them.
How many times did I listen to that song, and watched this video...100 times? .... 200 times ?... don’t know, maybe more ... always with a litlle bit of pain...for what?....don’t know....
Damm, that is a beautiful song ! And speaking of beautiful, Emmylou just gets more gorgeous with the passing years !!
I've listened and watched this version many times over the years since I saw it live on TV.
Love this song. Emmylou really adds depth to the singing. A unique
one of the songs that brings my to tears...what blessing this earth has had....with the likes of steve earle (who like most of us learned the hard way) and Miss Emmy lou harris...I will always be hopelessly in love with her counrty girl beauty and her spirit catcher of a voice...
I'm familiar with the music of Donal, Steve and Sharon! First time i've heard this! I wept with the beauty and the pain of it! Bitter magic!
The first time I heard this song was on the TV show Friday Night Lights. The scene was when there was two brother and one of the brothers was going to jail for the other one because I believe the guilty one's wife was pregnant. This song played as they said Goodbye. It blew me away. This version to me is the best. The looks on the faces of the group says it all.
Love Emmylou and Steve great performance of the whole band
the best combo you can get, american and irish folkies
