The best I've seen scotland play being at hampden was losing 3-2 to Germany the world champions that beat Brazil 7-1. Very unlucky not to get at least a point that day. Massive game Wedenstag

You would expect the manager to be contrite, embarrassed and apologetic but no it was 100% deflection and not taking personal accountability. Obviously, his second in command had a go at him on the touchline to do something instead of just glowering. It was clear that some players needed substituted after we went two goals behind but Clarke stayed in his bunker mentality mindset, blaming the world rather than trying to fix the problem. It is shallower than a snakes belly to blame Scotland's poor performance on Germany's good performance.

Agreed. Seems like a nice guy but never rated him even if he qualified the team for two euros (with one being via a shootout in the nations league). The bottom line is, statistically scotland were bound to qualify sooner or later after all the near misses in the past. Plus the euros is easier to qualify for than the world cup. For me Clarke has no charisma, insipid vibe, lack of energy, no inspiration, no ruthlessness and what seems to be very little strategy at this level. That quiet, stoic attitude of his has masked his lack of tactical awareness for too long now. There was zero urgency in that pathetic performance, at least put up a fight. No chance against the Swiss, they are a proper team. And can’t see them getting anything against Hungary either on this form. Szoboszlai will eat that defence for breakfast.

"NEVER DOUBTED MY PLAYERS" - That's why your team froze and were embarrassed Were Germany brilliant or were Scotland very poor? Scotland cant compete with world class strong, fast, tall, athletic players.

The questions while utterly pointless as you say, will still come up, so its probably better to have some basic answers ready because its in these moments that the media/fans will be listening and its the managers job to protect the players and support the fans. If you're getting rattled by these inane questions you're openly displaying your'e struggling and that could have a real negative effect on the players and fans.

That's the mainstream media everywhere about everything. Inane, unimaginative, unoriginal, repetitive questions. That is no excuse for Steve to treat everyone involved with such disdain. Playing Callum McGregor, a guy who cant perform outside Scotland where there is no Collum/Clancy/Robertson etc to hold his hand, over the likes of Billy Gilmour is peak plastic paddyland cringe. Lewis Ferguson was one of the best players in Serie A this year, and even he couldnt shift hopeless McGregor out the team. Congratulations “Scotland”. You got what you deserved😂.

I suspect he was expecting a narrow 2-1 or 1-0 loss, which would've been respectable. Copping a 5-1 drubbing (and not even scoring that single goal yourself!!) is embarrassing. I doubt Scotland will recover from this. They'll finish bottom with zero points and a negative 11 goal difference.

It was always going to be difficult. MacGregor plays against SPFL teams every week. These Germans play in much stronger leagues against much better players. It was a big step up for some. 3 or 4 very good players aint enough when the rest are mediocre at best.

Well this is a total joyless experience, one word answers, barking Uefa guy.

Poor press conference and attitude. More respect if he put his hands up and admitted he got it wrong. The "gaping" divide between the Scottish defence and midfield allowed Germany to play easily and attack either directly in the middle or through the spaces on the flanks.

It's shocking in 60 years Scotland has only produced one or two World class players. Dalglish and souness and maybe Hansen and John Robertson.

If you watch the game back, Scotland rarely got out of their own half and their record of consecutive passes was 3.

Bad tactics, bad lineup. No change when it was obvious it wasnt going to work.

Steve Clarke needs to go now! This result is his fault and his fault only. I think that was a relatively easy post match press conference considering the humiliation on the pitch! Plays Gilmour and Shankland the entire pre tournament games then leaves them out! Shankland best bet of holding the ball and scoring, Gilmour our best passer and retainer or the ball isn’t in the team! Centre of the Scotland defence should be Hanley and Souttar but I can only speculate as to why he chooses the players he does, but I can be sure he was happy when Patterson got injured. He sat in the dugout the entire match and watched as Germany repeatedly dismantled us on the wings and did NOTHING, his game plan was to not concede and early goal. I’m sick of this backward thinking and shite excuses about lower population etc! If he plays one up front against Switzerland and that player is Shitey Adams I’m supporting the Swiss! Two up front! Asking for trouble playing Kilmarnock tactics And the way he has conducted himself during these interviews is embarrassing

I don’t get Steve Clark tactics or attitude, I know he doesn’t have great players in the team but performance against Germany was shocking , I understand he wants plenty left in the players legs for last two games but he should have come straight out and apologised to the fans, their efforts did not match the Scotland supporters and better be at least giving everything against the Swiss , we shall see on Wednesday night !

Scotland first team back on the plane home. Clarke to be sacked upon arrival. What a useless manager at the interview. Dear oh dear, from manager to players, Scotland needs a complete overhaul.

With a manager like that how do you expect anyone to "keep the faith"? Steve Clarke... Have some respect for others doing their job competently. Without them you don't have a job. Your attitude is unacceptable. Your dismissive answers are counterproductive to your countries success and disrespect everyone involved especially the supporters.

I hate the tactics where you try hide in your shell and hope for a goalless draw. You're in a major tournament, you NEED to atleast attempt to control games. Gilmour needed for ball retention atleast. These tactics will land a result/draw every now and then, say maybe 1 in 10 games. 3 group games folowed by knockout games to the final, any team attempting to go far needs far more than 1 out of 10 games to go anywhere. Might aswell have had Craig Levein make the tactics yesterday. Anyway, hope this wakes up the coaching staff. Feel for the players as they were doomed from the start with whatever instructions they had and also lacked. Make an attempt! There's no pride in cheering for what unfolded. The same scoreline with a better setup/fight for the ball would have been applauded by most Scots. We're not expecting to have Germanys skill/standards. Fresh start Wednesday please.
