How glorious that when John was with Howard - Howard refused to write the liner notes for John's album or be in the video. Two things the record company was counting on, and are the entire reason they gave him a deal. Then when John was with Leno - Leno refused to be involved in John's movie in any way, then refused to write the foreword to John's book. Once again, the only reason John got the book and movie was the money people assumed Leno would do stuff for it. Nothing's better than John's plans being destroyed.

Had Stern not surrounded himself in such mediocrity, you could almost have all the makings of an interesting "The Howard Stern curse" documentation, alas it's only obvious why no one goes on to any post-Show success. I can't see the comment that replied to me, but I wanna reply to them about what an idiot I am for forgetting about Billy West lol. I'd say Richie Wilson did about as good for himself as maybe Scott Depace or Doug Goodstein (all went to RevoltTV), which just means they were able to find stable work, so it's hard to classify that as "success" in the terms which I've not-yet-established: achieving both a higher status in entertainment while having a name no longer attached to "The Howard Stern Show". As far as Stuttering John, the key term here is "for awhile". Here's a curveball: Artie almost evaded this ostensibly-named "Stern curse" by getting the gig on Crashing, but then he, in fact, crashed and promptly burned (no pun intended) shortly thereafter.

I wish someone could find and put together in chronological order, when John got his record deal and then the aftermath. It was pretty hilarious. He pretty much was walking around, believing he finally made it and was gonna be the next big rock star. Howard kept asking him about the record, and John kept bragging about his great songs. But Howard kept reminding him he only got the record deal because of Howard, and the record company was dumb for putting money into it. Anyway, indeed the company was spending a lot of money on stuttering John. Putting him on MTV and playing his video, plus doing gigs opening for some rock bands. It all peeked when MTV and Atlantic Records threw him a huge release party and had movie stars and rock stars coming to the party. John was at this point an insufferable prick, thinking he was a huge star... even though the record hadn't come out yet.. Anyway, it all came crashing down in a hilarious way when they sent John to a record store to do a signing on the day the album came out. And only less than 20 people showed up to the signing. Grillo and Gange, who were with him, rushed the next morning to tell Howard how bad it went. So, anyway, obviously, the record was a huge flop. Sold less than 1,000 units on its first week, and Atlantic Records immediately shut down John's second album and gave him all the cds that didn't sell. Which John had to rent a storage unit just to put them there and he created a 1-800 number so he could sell his crappy cd there plus he would also try to sell them when he was doing gigs...
