Some help for anyone wanting to see the magik 1. Set your resolution to about max 2. Move your head towards the screen and make your eyes out of focus. 3. SLOWLY move your head backwards from the screen whatever you do do not let your eyes go in focus 4. Tada! You can see Astley (well the outlines though…) i hope this was helpfull usually im not a good teacher…

One tip to see: Have something you can focus behind your phone. I always first focus on the window then slowly focus on my screen until I see the stereogram a bit then I'm able to focus on it.

@BrickBacon then take an object behind the phone to help focus, you're trying to see something that looks like paper over paper. Let the phone close but not touching your face, focus on the background and slowly focus on the phone, go back and forth SLOWLY, at some point you'll see something different and then try to get to that same point.

@BrickBacon it took me a while too, do you know how to generally get cross eyed? Was the video in max resolution? I learnt with the bad apple magic eye one, not only is more defined but there's also other people with different techniques there, who may explain better than me

Amazing and incredible are probably different for each viewer. For some, I would think they would find it interesting that this could be done and enjoyed a novel Rick Roll. Some people have not seen animated stereogram videos before. For others, it is that this AI predicted the depth with amazing details in some scenes. I think my favourite parts are when on some of the background dancers spins (hair) and when the bartender flips over the bar. I haven't watched it for a while, so I don't remember everything. The monocular depth prediction AI used for this video was MiDAS 2.1 and MiDAS 3 was released relatively shortly after this video was done. github.com/isl-org/MiDaS

Yeah, kinda neat. It could be a way of obscuring information from an automated scanning method. I have seen various methods of decryption, but the scanning methods would have to identify the image as something to be solved.

So now i have to tense up to rickroll myself

the way i do it is i go a moderate distance from my monitor (max res, 0.5 feet) and then either rapidly move my eyes side to side, making them blur OR relaxxxing them and making them blur.

I was very confused until I realized the resolution was set to 480p. Stereograms are really wack at low res.

cross your eyes, or bring your eyes closer to the screen, then slowwwwwly backs away, but crossing your eyes is much easier

You'll probably have more luck trying on a phone screen, or about 1/2 the width of a computer screen. It can take a bit of time to learn the trick, but once you get it, it becomes easier and easier

feels like it was done automatically. yeah it would be a lot of work to fully model his face, but it would be nice if he had a nose in the closeup shots at least...

This was using an older version of the depth estimation AI (v2). I had noticed more face like details in newer versions of the AI.

This is what I call doubling, essentially your eyes are going one pattern repeat to far. If you are on your phone, try on a bigger screen or with practice you can force the correct image. Many of my images are prone to doubling. Check out work by @3dimka, there images are less prone to doubling.

I think most people prefer it on mobile; make sure to turn your phone sideways and fullscreen it. If you watch it on your computer, try it first at 1/4 the screen size.

yeah pretty close as memory serves, but I want to say 4. This video has full frames to match the original (to sync the music), but I did what I call a sticky frame rate, where I held onto one frame for 5-6 frames. I'm guessing this is about 24 fps, so if I held onto it for 6 frames, that would give an effective 4 fps; but maybe I held onto it for 8 frames : )

The image is composed of strips, basically you are focusing behind the image and your brain makes 3d from overlaping the strips. There is lots of great information on how to see magic eye images on google.

The sticky frame effect was done to help people focus on the image, that is why it holds for a few seconds on each frame while maintaining the proper timing. I also suspect that KZread compression liked it a bit more and the quality remained higher.
