Stephen Meyer: The Return of the God Hypothesis - Part 2

Ойын-сауық

Eric Metaxas interviews Stephen C. Meyer on the scientific evidence for the existence of God as outlined in Dr. Meyer’s book THE RETURN OF THE GOD HYPOTHESIS. Their conversation explores evidence from cosmology, showing that the material universe had a beginning; evidence from physics, showing that the universe was been “finely tuned” to allow for the possibility of life, and evidence from biology, showing that since the universe came into being, large amounts of genetic information present in DNA must have arisen to make life possible.
Metaxas asks about the response to the 2021 book and Meyer details a dramatic shift in the intellectual world. He says that after the rise and fall of the popular arguments put forward by the “New Atheists” in the early 2000’s, groundbreaking scientific discoveries led to a return to belief. Meyer cites the rise of figures like psychologist Jordan Peterson and British historian Tom Holland who lament the loss of morality and look beyond the cynicism of the New Atheists by returning to conversations on truth and meaning.
The interview took place at the Westminster Conference on Science and Faith, sponsored by the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture, in April 2022.

Your whole point is moot anyway because you don't need to be a scientist to be considered a great thinker or even to comment/debate on scientific topics. You are smart enough to know this. Please stop spreading falsehoods. Thanks.

    Using your title to discuss topics you aren't qualified to discuss, and presenting your presuppositional opinion as fact in opposition to what the evidence actually points to, and using fallacious arguments to argue against science and history, based on euhemerism...... makes you a charlatan, masquerading as a scientist. Name one contribution Meyer made to human knowledge as a geo- physicist. And what information he presented for peer review. Your answer will show you just how much a "scientist" he is. Then, go read the Judges summary from the Kitzmiller trial. Meyer is an apologist, not a scientist.

The content of the conversation, the comical banter, and the overall context of this S.I.T.C. was intellectually-and even spiritually-refreshing. May God give both Dr. Meyer and Eric Metaxas greater grace as they carry on the work of making His Name and glory known in the intellectual fields of inquiry. Listen to the 1/6 hearings, unlike Eric they are truth tellers and fact finders. It is the best television series right now. LIZ CHENEY: You'll also hear about a lawyer named John Eastman. Mr. Eastman was deeply involved in President Trump's plans. You'll hear from former fourth circuit federal judge Michael Luttig, a highly respected leading conservative judge. John Eastman clerked for Judge Luttig. Judge Luttig provided counsel to the Vice President's team in the days before January 6th. The judge will explain how Eastman quote, "Was wrong at every turn." And you will see the email exchanges between Eastman and the Vice President's counsel as the violent attack on Congress was underway. Mr. Jacob said this to miss - Mr. Eastman, "Thanks to your bullshit, we are under siege." You will also see evidence that John Eastman did not actually believe the legal position he was taking. In fact, a month before the 2020 election, Eastman took exactly the opposite view on the same legal issues. In the course of the Select Committee's work to obtain information from Mr. Eastman, we have had occasion to present evidence to a federal judge. The judge evaluated the facts and he reached the conclusion that President Trump's efforts to pressure Vice President Pence to act illegally by refusing to count electoral votes likely violated two federal criminal statutes. And the judge also said this. If Dr. Eastman and President Trump's plan had worked, it would have permanently ended the peaceful transition of power, undermining American democracy and the Constitution. If the country does not commit to investigating and pursuing accountability for those responsible, the court fears January 6th will repeat itself. Every American should read what this federal judge has written. The same judge, Judge Carter, issued another decision on Tuesday night just this week indicating that John Eastman and other Trump lawyers knew that their legal arguments had no real chance of success in court. But they relied on those arguments anyway to try to quote, "Overturn a democratic election." And you will hear that while Congress was under attack on January 6th and the hours following the violence, the Trump legal team in the Willard Hotel war room continued to work to halt the count of electoral votes.

    Trump is pushing the devil Trump's darkness and lies. Watch the best and most factual series on television with the 1/6 hearings. The truth will set you free, unless your afraid to have an open mind. MIKE PENCE: President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone. And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American President. LIZ CHENEY: What President Trump demanded that Mike Pence do wasn't just wrong, it was illegal and it was unconstitutional. You will hear this in great detail from the Vice President's former general counsel. Witnesses in these hearings will explain how the former Vice President and his staff informed President Trump over and over again that what he was pressuring Mike Pence to do was illegal. As you will hear, President Trump engaged in a relentless effort to pressure Pence, both in private and in public. You will see the evidence of that pressure from multiple witnesses live and on video. Vice President Pence demonstrated his loyalty to Donald Trump consistently over four years, but he knew that he had a higher duty to the United States Constitution. This is testimony from the Vice President's chief of staff. MARC SHORT: That's why I think the Vice President was proud of his four years of service and he felt like much had been accomplished in those four years. And I think he was proud to have stood beside the President for all that has been done. But I think he ultimately knew that his fidelity to the Constitution was his first and foremost oath. And - and that's - that's what he articulated publicly. And I think that that's what he felt. UNKNOWN: His fidelity to the Constitution was more important than his fidelity to President Trump and his desires - MARC SHORT: - The oath he took. UNKNOWN: Yes.

    Seek truth, instead of lies of the Devil Trump! Watch the 1/6 hearings and get a reality check! WILLIAM BARR: Repeatedly told the President in no uncertain terms that I did not see evidence of fraud. And - you know, that would have affected the outcome of the election. And frankly a year and a half later, I haven't seen anything to change my mind on that. LIZ CHENEY: Attorney General Barr also told President Trump that his allegations about Dominion voting machines were groundless. WILLIAM BARR: I saw absolutely zero basis for the allegations, but they were made in such a sensational way that they obviously were influencing a lot of people, members of the public that there was this systemic corruption in the system and that their votes didn't count and that these machines controlled by somebody else were actually determining it, which was complete nonsense. And it was being laid out there. And I told them that it was - that it was crazy stuff and they were wasting their time on that. And it was doing a great, grave disservice to the country. LIZ CHENEY: But President Trump persisted, repeating the false Dominion allegations in public at least a dozen more times even after his Attorney General told him, they were quote, "complete nonsense". And after Barr's resignation on December 23rd, the acting Attorney General who replaced him, Jeff Rosen, and the acting deputy, Richard Donoghue, told President Trump over and over again that the evidence did not support allegations he was making in public. Many of President Trump's White House staff also recognized that the evidence did not support the claims President Trump was making. This is the President's daughter commenting on Bill Barr's statement that the department found no fraud sufficient to overturn the election. UNKNOWN: How did that affect your perspective about the election when Attorney General Barr made that statement? IVANKA TRUMP: It affected my perspective. I respect Attorney General Barr. So I accepted what he was saying.

    God has nothing to with the lies of Trump or Eric. They need to examine their lives and repent from their evil deeds and lies. Get a reality check and watch the 1/6 hearings, instead of this liar. If you follow Trump, the man of lawlessness, you won't be raptured. God is using Trump to test the church and purge the evil doers in the church, as Trump tries to destroy America and the church. Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Those who follow Trump will be left behind if they don't repent. JASON MILLER: I was in the Oval Office and at some point in the conversation Matt Oczkowski, who was the lead data person was brought on and I remember he delivered to the President pretty blunt terms that he was going to lose. UNKNOWN: And that was based, Mr. Miller, on Matt and the data team's assessment of the sort of county by county, state by state results as reported? JASON MILLER: Correct. LIZ CHENEY: Alex Cannon was one of President Trump's campaign lawyers. He previously worked for the Trump Organization. One of his responsibilities was to assess allegations of election fraud in November 2020. Here is one sample of his testimony discussing what he told White House Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows. ALEX CANNON: I remember a call with Mr. Meadows where Mr. Meadows was asking me what I was finding. And if I was finding anything. And I remember sharing with him that we weren't finding anything that would be sufficient to change the results in any of the key states. UNKNOWN: When was that conversation? ALEX CANNON: Probably in November, mid to late November. I think it was before my child was born. UNKNOWN: And what was Mr. Meadows reaction to that information? ALEX CANNON: I believe the words he used were, so there's no there there. LIZ CHENEY: There's no there there. The Trump campaign's general counsel, Matt Morgan, gave similar testimony. He explained that all of the fraud allegations and the campaign's other election arguments taken together and viewed in the best possible light for President Trump could still not change the outcome of the election. President Trump's Attorney General, Bill Barr, also told Donald Trump his election claims were wrong.

    Eric is foolish enough to be strong for Trump, not God. God is not using Eric, the Devil Trump is. Watch the 1/6 hearings and they will tell you the truth about Trump's cult. "In our fifth hearing, you will see evidence that President Trump corruptly pressured state legislators and election officials to change election results. You will hear additional details about President Trump's call to Georgia officials urging them to quote, "Find 11,780 votes," votes that did not exist. And his efforts to get states to rescind certified electoral slates without factual basis and contrary to law. You will hear new details about the Trump campaign and other Trump associates' efforts to instruct Republican officials in multiple states to create intentionally false electoral slates and transmit those slates to Congress, to the Vice President, and the National Archives, falsely certifying that Trump won states he actually lost. In our final two June hearings, you will hear how President Trump summoned a violent mob and directed them illegally to march on the United States Capitol. While the violence was underway President Trump failed to take immediate action to stop the violence and instruct his supporters to leave the Capitol. As we present these initial findings, keep two points in mind. First, our investigation is still ongoing. So what we make public here will not be the complete set of information we will ultimately disclose. And second, the Department of Justice is currently working with cooperating witnesses and has disclosed to date only some of the information it has identified from encrypted communications and other sources. On December 18th, 2020, a group including General Michael Flynn, Sidney Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and others visited the White House. They stayed late into the evening. We know that the group discussed a number of dramatic steps, including having the military seize voting machines and potentially rerun elections. You will also hear that President Trump met with that group alone for a period of time before White House lawyers and other staff discovered the group was there and rushed to intervene. A little more than an hour after Ms. Powell, Mr. Giuliani, General Flynn, and the others finally left the White House, President Trump sent the tweet on the screen now telling people to come to Washington on January 6th. Be there, he instructed them. Will be wild. As you will see, this was a pivotal moment.

    Watch the 1/6 hearing and get a reality check. They are using Christianity to brainwash Christians. How can they live for Jesus, when they worship the Devil Trump? The sick and evil men, who support Kavanaugh and Trump, and other GOPerverts should think about what it would be like for their teenage daughter to be pushed into a bedroom and jumped on by some disgusting, drunken prep boy, laughing with his creeps-in-arms, as the assault took place. How about if Kavacreep, in a drunken stupor, put his balls and junk in the face of Melania, Ivanka or Kavanaugh’s daughters faces, with no eyewitness? Would the President and his cronies scream in outrage and claiming the investigation a witch hunt? Do you believe the innocent woman assaulted or the creep, with a reputation? Trump, who enjoys and thinks he is entitled to grabbing woman’s pussies because he is famous and rich; who is accused of enjoying the occasional golden shower with hookers in Moscow; Who cannot pass up a big breasted porn star and a childlike playboy bunny; as he violates his marriage vows, along with decent men and women’s sensibilities? Unfortunately, Republican, and fake Christian woman and men are all in, when it comes to supporting perverts and rapists in government, like Matt Gaetz, Kavanaugh and Trump, but God forbid if a woman wants an abortion! Hypocrites! What will Republicans do with all the drug addicted, unwanted babies that will be born because of their decision? We know California CongressmanLaMalfa has taken millions in subsidies, while cutting food programs. What will he do when that number explodes? Put them in jails, like the one he supported at the border for immigrant children, while taking advantage of their parents, with cheap labor making himself even richer. LaMalfa has for allowed our forests to be over cut, by another big money supporter Sierra Pacific, leaving our forests barren and dried out, ready for the next match and fire, with most of Northern California on fire.

    Believe as a child, not an intellectual. God invented intellect and all that science can study. Intellect and science, honestly applied, can only conclude that God done it! It can never disprove God because He made it all. The problem we all have opposes God and relentlessly conspires against Him. Its in everyone born of woman, its called sin. Jesus Christ is the only answer to our sin. Believe in Him, repent from sin, make Him Lord of you and receive real faith, a birth gift from God, to grow stronger and do what He has planned to do with and in you, with perfect peace and great joy. Faith is a widely abused word, religious belief systems are not faith and none of them can save. Eternal life in Christ can only begin before physical death. You must, be born again in spirit. John 3 applies. Thanks Eric

    Intelligent design is based on the concept that DNA functions as a language, similar to arranging letters, images, or symbols to communicate information precisely. Comparable to computer codes, Morse codes, bar codes, tax codes, building codes, fire codes, zip codes, texts sent on your phone, or notes on small pieces of scrap paper left on the refrigerator to remind one to pick up the dry cleaning on their way home. The sad part is that people like Richard Dawkins will try so hard to not lean towards the intellectual design argument that he'd make up or agree with ideas such as a multi verse or an alien planting the first cell. Those things are even more far fetched than the idea of God.

  • @ukcadjockey

    @ukcadjockey

    I'm glad you think that the idea of a god is far fetched. Dawkins is a scientist, and as such adheres strictly to the scientific method. There has never been a single experiment to detect and positively identify a god, and without that, and a positive result, the existence of a god is conjecture. It's not impossible that there is a god It's not impossible that there is a multiverse It's not impossible that aliens planted the first cell. The problems arise when people attach their religion to these concepts, because religions tend to claim certainty where there is none.

    First, we thought God snapped His fingers and boom, there was life, instantly, without trace. Then we looked at it a bit, and it seemed like, hey, His finger snapping did indeed leave some fingerprints as to the structure of life coming into being. Then we discovered a tiny part of that fingerprint, and immediately thought, God is not necessary, just this fingerprint thingy, and we know how to synthesize something like this tiny part of it, and let's just pretend we are not minds doing it. Then we discovered that the fingerprint is actually so huge and vast that we basically have no hope of ever making such a thing. Then we just continue with this fantastical image of how the fingerprint came to be by chance, and that if we somehow manage to replicate something kinda like the fingerprint by grabbing parts of the other one, we then know how the first fingerprint came to be, and also imagine that we will be able to do so, even as it becomes more and more obvious that it's not possible. Then some people say, hey, it looks like a fingerprint, perhaps there was a finger? But nooooo, that's the God of the gaps, or something like that. But what about the science of the gaps? Isn't that an issue? We just know more and more stuff that science can't explain, and we just keep saying we'll know some day. This "of the gaps" argument really does not hold either way. We don't know shit, but it sure looks to some of us like life has a purpose, and to others like it doesn't. Let's not pretend we can know everything, or even most things. Truth is all in all. If we know more or less of Him/it (depending on your world view), it does not change what He/it is. Science is great, in the service of that which makes life precious and holy. Science as a replacement for that which makes life precious and holy, is the ugliest religion for a long time, perhaps the ugliest ever. Even baby sacrifices were at least done in some belief that is was necessary for preciousness of life continuing. While the scientistic religion has at it's core the actual extinguishing of an ability to even see the preciousness or holiness of anything. It's mode of operation is to ignore that stuff, which is fine as a method, but literally generates insanity as a religion/vorld view.

    Believing in God dont make you saved. Been a Christian does not save anyone. The apostle Paul received the gospel from Christ to give to us. Gal 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. Gal 1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. That gospel Paul was given by Christ ; 1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Paul never writes in any of his epistles to become a Christian. You need to trust in what Christ has done for us on the cross to have everlasting life.
