    Exactly, we as in humanity. For any one who doesn't know and might be interested: Half of the 2020 physics Nobel prize was awarded to researchers who proved the existence of a black hole at the center of our galaxy. They didn't take a picture of it, they managed to find it by measuring its gravitational effect on other things. The other half was awarded to Roger Penrose for his work on space-time singularities. You can see him in this clip. Fascinating stuff...

Like dude, we get it your smart..but also we don't get it! He makes things complicated and doesn't explain a solution, really comforting right? Your patron saint told you you won't be able to eat fresh fruit and get a tan in the sun in the next 50+ years and dies..and everyone applauded him with tears.

    Those names don't mean people who were diddling the underage girls. Some of them, but alot of people mentioned were just in the documents because they were asked about, or perhaps had legitimate business, etc. We have to wait until all the documents are released, and people have gone through them. And even that won't really tell us the story. Although tbh, it wouldn't shock me if he did have some uhh, work done. Did he have any feeling I wonder? I mean, at the very least, his eyes worked

I didn't really understand the answer but I remember the occasion. It wasn't longer after while on a visit to CERN He lost his voice completely. In a strange twist 5 years later I found myself at CERN for a year where I first learnt about string theory, web browsers and neural networks. I never met Him again. I wouldn't be surprised if the Universe we know is a Black Hole. The Schwarzschild Radius of a Black Hole with the estimated mass of our Universe is 14Billion Light Years, this is the estimated age of our Universe, this doesn't sound like a coincidence to me, but what do I know, Hawking was a genius for sure.

They all follow one another like a linked-list; building, expanding, proving and disproving theories of the past, giving new ones for the minds of the future to repeat. Remarkable people.

    People need to stop comparing Hawking's IQ to other scientists throughout history. All scientists have different expertise, such as their individual fields they are proficient in. IQ and "smartness" are comparable, but they are not the same thing. Not one scientist is smarter than another in the broad view. One may be more proficient in that certain field, but then is outdone by someone that is more proficient in another field.

  • @violinxxxcrazy

    @violinxxxcrazy

    3 жыл бұрын

    My below point is, I agree with you. It's fun to compare IQ, but in the grand scheme of life, IQ is meaningless. You can achieve so much as a man of low IQ, even under the concept of IQ.. For example, the IQ is calculated by mental age / actual age. To make the math easy, we'll assume the person is 10 years old to 100 years old. So let's compare someone with a genius IQ of 180 and below average of 90. This means A = 1.8, which at 10 years old must have been thinking like an 18 year old, whereas Mr. B thinks like an 9 year old. Now, they've grown up to age 100. Mr. A has a mental age of 180 year old, whereas Mr. B has a mental age of an 90 year old. Therefore, in this "bleak" estimation, Mr. A has kind of only lived 2 lifetimes of Mr. B. Two heads of "below average" is still supposed to be better than 1 genius. When we see these "genius" scientists perform great ideas and feats, people sometimes get caught up on the fact that they are able to achieve the results so quickly. They don't realize even if estimated about 2ce as slowly, they still can get to the same results! So the issues and causes that make people like Mr. B not achieve great things also apply to Mr A, whether if financial, mental, physical etc. To my understanding, the point of IQ isn't to explain the meaning of life. It's to redistribute resources to children of lower economic abilities, but show great intelligence, so that their potential can be fully developed. This is typical not only for intelligence but also for sports, as kids who show great prowess in basketball or football in the US tend to get recruited to top tier leagues. Basically, IQ is a human concept. It's not a worldly truth. Don't get caught up on it if it's not part of your job.

    Exactly. It's not just smarts, it's also environment and what the status of science is at the time you are in it. Let's switch Hawking with Newton. In Newton's time, Hawking would have been the one to "discover" gravity, because that's what was needed to be discovered. If Newton were now, he would be the one talking about black holes and the theory of everything.

    What some don't get is science is a bit like cake. It has layers. Scientists build up those layers through research. We have the base which is the foundation, it's the job of future scientists to use that foundation and build up new theories, prove them and add that layer. Science changes, it will never stop changing. Scientists express intelligence in their own way. Maybe it's time we stop comparing each others intelligence when science is purely a melting pot for different people of different fields and expertise. We all have the same goal: discover. I say this as a recent Science Graduate.

    As I recall, the first glimpse of Hawking's genius was when he quickly and correctly answered a question about the temperature of coffee when cream was added. I don't remember all the details, but it had nothing to do with black holes at the time. It was just a general physics question that most of his peers had difficulty with.
