Stephen A Smith vs Pat McAfee At ESPN?

Спорт

In this clip from episode 264, Stephen A gets into how he feels about Pat McAfee joining the ESPN network. Stephen A says he loves Pat but fully intends on remaining number 1 at the network just like he has been for the last 12 years. With his contract coming up soon, it'll be interesting to see what ESPn does.

Yeah people actually talking game with athletes that have unbiased prospective that don’t force arguments is better than First Take, sorry. First Take started with the whole Jalen Rose and Skip Bayless debate and it was shock value how emotional everyone got. So it was taboo to see people get loud and argumentative on ESPN and that lasted for a good few years, but that it was inevitable to get stale and now it’s died out and over done with 10 shows just like it in the past 17 years. Pat MacFee is exactly what this country needs right now………… Again, bigger than sports. Dudes chopping it up just providing perspective and not arguing over dumb shit all the time. It’s a whole vibe. Thought Stephen A came off very human here. Unfortunately, it shows what a clown he is on a regular basis if this is the standard for what makes him genuine. The reason his "digital" numbers are so small compared to the people he mentions is because the audience doesn't choose who ESPN puts on a show. However, we do get to choose who/what we watch. Those other dudes are just likable and fresh and authentic. Stephen A is a lunatic, a character or both. We don't want to be yelled at and told we're wrong, it's exhausting. We want to listen to entertaining conversations about topics we enjoy.

He's confusing being a self-made man like the digital guys with getting hand picked as the most useful pawn by a network. He said it himself. "I'm going to be number 1 as long as I have a contract with ESPN." He knows exactly what he is and that's why he's scrambling at 60 years old to get his "independence." ESPN will find a younger, cheaper and just as malleable of a mouthpiece to take his spot for the next 15 years. He's expendable and knows it, but wants to market himself as some hot commodity. Nobody looks at him and thinks "Sports!". They think the ESPN screaming guy. He never played, he's never had his own successes outside of the ESPN bubble and he's not respected by any real journalists. He's an ESPN puppet.

@@kylerogers6811Yeah but what he’s saying is that Stephen A. Smith needs ESPN because he isn’t much without it. MacFee was huge before ESPN and honestly took a risk of watering down what was already extremely successful by going to ESPN, but Pat did it cause he loved ESPN growing up and wanted to live out a dream of his. Pat can leave and be picked up somewhere else and bring his following with him and destroy ESPN in the process. Stephen A. Smith losing First Take would not affect ESPN. They would honestly just fill that time slot with more Get Up or Pat MacFee or give a new show a shot and it wouldn’t make too much of a difference.

I actually think it's just the natural transformation of sports talk. Skip and Stephen A. started the debate format which took over from the Sportscentre highlight shows. Then there was an era where fan channels and podcasts took over which allowed the people who talked about sports to be openly biased and declare their fan alligences (this also bleeded into traditional sports media where now media people openly root and cheer for their favourite teams). But yes, the rise of the ex-athlete commentator is the era which we are in now. With the increase of analytics, availability of stats, and online highlights, fans no longer need "experts" to tell them about sports. What fans can't get is that behind the scenes look behind the curtain. And with the stigma around swearing and lewd talk virtually disappearing, it's clear the ex-athletes have taken over. Shannon Sharpe begin as Skip's number two, he is now bigger than Skip and Stephen A. Him and Pat McAfee are the best. Listening to him talk about being number one on linear television sounds like a silent film star talking about how he's going to make the successful transition to the talkies or a radio show host to colour TV lol

@@kiroolioneaver8532 you’re right, it does seem like an evolution in sports talk. I always appreciated sports journalist from the past that were able to intelligently, and without bias, put together compelling sports commentary. Then the hot take, controversy style sports talk that Skip Bayless and SAS really made popular just got so so annoying. Colin Cowherd is one of the worst. Ex athletes are now able to talk about the game with humor and so much more insight. I think it was HILARIOUS to hear him speak about how great he is on linear TV too lol.

Stephen A is trying to copy Pat, he's nowhere near his level lol but i understand stand why he wants to be seen as the top dog at ESPN before it fully dies.

SAS it’s always about it race and you’ll never win thinking that way. In all the years SAS still playing the same character yelling, talking soft and trashing certain types of players. He’s only around because well….. it doesn’t need to be said.

Top perch???? lol watch these comments come to haunt him 😂🤣😂 I hope Pat adds more sports coverage outside of NFL. Just an extra coverage of the NBA & Pat will completely overtake First Take, not that he hasn’t already.

Pat got popular without espn, they are paying him because of what he built himself. If they try to change him he will lose viewers and it wouldve made no sense for espn to do that. Also he could just leave and be fine with it. it has nothing to do with race. But at least we know Stephen a is an actual racist

SAS gets a lot of hate, but who wouldn't want to be in his position? Can't play sports but makes big money off talking about it? I can't hate on that, that's my dream as an unathletic(well nowhere near pro level anyway) sports lover. I disagree with him a lot, but I still find him entertaining. I live in a country where our sports coverage could only dream of having the quality of ESPN and the likes of SAS, I don't think a lot of Americans realise how bad sports media is in the rest of the world. I watch all kinds of different sports and the USA sports media scene shits on everywhere. (My only real issue with SAS is the Max Kellerman situation which I wasn't so happy with. I'd love to hear Max's side of things).

Did he say 7 figures on a podcast studio? Is he adding the entire building into that? Is he saying it's hard to be black in sports entertainment? They on a ton of shows , Pat is big because he organically created a huge fan base. Stephen A has used msm to get everything he has. Him talking politics is exactly like when he tried talking mma with rogan.
