Stephen A. is actually a really considerate guy. When he covered the 76ers for the Inquirer my high school English teacher wrote Stephen and asked if he would come speak to our class of about 30 students. He said yes in a heartbeat and on the day he came it was snowing out with inches on the ground. We thought he might not show up but he arrived and gave us that Stephen A. energy for the next 2 hours lol. Best person the HS ever brought in to speak haha. He’s a good dude

Fun fact: In 2015-16 JJ shot 47.5%3pt on 5.6 attempts playing 75 games. And most of them were on the move catch & shoots running off of screens. That's insanely good, historically great. He's legitimately a top 10-15 shooter in the history of basketball.

It’s funny, during Stephen A’s brief foray in mixed martial arts media he said something to the effect that a fighter didn’t want to be there during a main event. There was a ton of blowback from the MMA media, “How dare he! He doesn’t know fight! etc etc”. More than a year later that fighter admitted he absolutely didn’t want to be there. Exactly, this sort of appearance here and on other podcasts like Bill Simmons makes you think, damn this guy could be one of the most brilliant analysts out there and instead he prefers to be clickbait and cater to the lowest common denominator by doing these shouting over the top takes, half of which he doesn't actually believe. Unlike you I don't tune in and it's because of that, but if he behaved there like he does here I absolutely would

They are there to hype the match up,to be the voice for a wrestler who's not that great on the mic.I feel like he would be able to get anybody over or just get incredible heat. Those who understand pro wrestling understand what I'm saying very well.

I find what JJ brings to first take is a realistic, honest, knowledgeable oppion on what is going on with teams, trades, or players/events. He also makes an argument like an essay and backs it up with points/statistics. I find that to be completely refreshing because a lot of these announcers on TV... *Cough* Stephen A *Cough * give you their opinion or anecdotal evidence that is never backed up by anything specific. I'm not trying to be too critical but this my honest observation. It's never a "he said she said" with JJ. Very rarely.

Max has always had balanced and incisive sports opinions. He was mostly pushed to take wild stances by ESPN, because First Take does not sell if it's just a couple guys being reasonable for two hours. It's important for the debate to be interesting, but in order for this show to work everybody needs to be 100% bought in to what they're saying all the time. It's hard for people to passionately defend opinions that in their heart are really just crazy hypotheticals. Something something death laser... something something Iguodala... That's a hard combination for somebody like Max, but in the same token, that's also why Pat Bev has been the perfect guest for First Take.
