Step by Step Procedure to Refine Silver | How to Refine 5Kg Silver Alloy - Gold Smith Jack

Step by Step Procedure to Refine Silver From Alloy when the weight of alloy is more than 5KG
*This work is done by a professional so do not try this at home*
This Refining process is performed by PC GOLD
*Channel Link - / @pravinepalvlogs
In this video, I am going to show you the full process of silver refining. It takes 1 day to complete the whole process for silver refining. The same technique can be used to extract the silver used in the gold refining process. The silver alloy contains many metals like zinc, copper, lead, etc. To extract silver we used a copper plate. The silver will start forming on the surface of the copper when the solution (silver nitride) touches the surface. KARAT METER Testing Machine is used to test the purity of gold and silver
Procedure to Refine Silver
1. Melt silver alloy into small pieces
2. Put the small alloy pieces into a steel container
3. Use Nitric Axid to start the reaction between alloy and the acid
4. Supply nitric acid to the steel container continuously until the alloy gets dissolved into acid
5. When the reaction starts it produces red smoke so wait till it produces white smoke
6. White smoke represents the end of the chemical reaction
7. Wait for 12 Hours
8. Pour the solution into another vessel containing water and copper plates
9. Use a water-salt solution to check the concentration of silver into the alloy solution
10. Stir the solution till all the silver gets formed
11. Remove all the silver from the vessel then melt into a crucible
12. 99.99% Silver has been Recovered

The only thing I hate most about refining videos is all of the pretentious chemistry people coming in and writing a bunch of redundant questions they already know the answers to, just to make the guy making the video feel stupid and fluff their own egos. I love your videos and think they're very informative and straight to the point.

the copper is to cement out soluble silver, and then the salt (sodium chloride) reacts with any more silver still left in solution to form silver chloride which isnt soluble and can be collected along with the cemented silver.

Do check out a process called 'Fire Assay' of Gold. The most widely accepted process in the world and international standards; also adapted by India in IS1418 and currently mandatorily used by all the assaying and hallmarking cenres and in a bit unorganised way, also used by many local bullion shops. All your questions about taking 250 to 500 mg of gold to determine purity of gold should be answered with this process. For silver, there are to processes accepted in Indian standards, volumetric method and gravimetric method. Silver not being my focus metal as of now, I may not be the best person to share details about it but I'm sure you can find details about the relevant standards on the BIS website in the hallmarking section. Cheers!

Get and old home computer, take the power supply out of it. Plug it in and find which is your 3.5V DC, CUT AND CAP THE 5V DC & 12V DC since they aren't needed. There's your power supply - cheap, simple and can be found almost anywhere on the planet

I like how the instructions say “this work is done by a professional do not try this at home” when it’s a dude with poorly made, homemade crucible, no gloves, no shoes, most likely no respirator, fume hood or extraction fans, He is using plastic buckets and just pouring acid out like it was water, splashing it around. Also when he is pouring out molten silver from super high it is just splashing all over too close to his bare feet. This is anything but professional. I’m dissing the guy, more than likely he is getting slave labour wages to do this and to ruin his own body.

Dude the amount of NO2 produced made me genuinely cringe. Doing this regularly outside of a fume hood (even outdoors) is going to expose him to so much NO2 that it is bound to destroy his lungs eventually.

The salt and water solution is added to the silver solution to find whether the extraction of silver from the solution is completed or not. 1. If white precipitation comes then the solution contain silver so we keep stirring 2. If there is no precipitation that means the solution doesn't contain anymore silver in the solution then we can just extract silver sand from the solution and throw away the silver solution. :)
