Step 5: Installing Interior

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This week, we install cabinets, find some water leaks, and put the interior back into my 1985 Vanagon camper.
Special thanks to my dad for helping out with the floors and lifting the cabinets!

@@gottasplit5707 Back at it and appreciate your videos. Going to send an order to GoWesty...and after I get it running, then probably do the fridge upgrade like you did.... Thanks !

Shoot, was hoping to see how you actually hooked the water & electrical back up. Some nice tips though.

tallpaulman Thanks for watching. The electrical and water are pretty straight forward, except that the water lines are attached to the back of the side panel behind the cabinets. Everything else kind of just gets stuffed in wherever it fits. Mine had been taken apart before, so I’m not actually sure where it all went originally.

After watching this I'm freaking out about how much water might be making its way through my hook-up boxes. 😫

Always a good idea to make sure they are all sealed up.Those and the fridge vent are the cause of so much of the rust on these vans.

Wow! I’ve been binge watching your videos on the Vanagon...must say great job and very good vids and explanations of each step. You have me wanting a Vanagon now! I’m thinking a 1980-1982 with the air cooled motor though. What are your thoughts on the early ones? Thanks, and keep up the great videos! Can’t wait for the next one!

Weightless Living Thank you!!! An aircooled Vanagon would be awesome! It will be a little harder to find parts for than a water cooled one, but you’ll still be able to. I’ve never had a type 4 engine, so I can’t say I know much about them, but a buddy of mine has an aircooled Vanagon, and he loves it. Vanagons have a good amount of room if you get a camper, and a big following, so assistance when something goes wrong will be simple to find. Good luck!!! ✌️

I took delivery on an ‘83 T3 in March and am in the process of fixing what is still a mess. It turns out the restorer sort of gave up after six months while trying to install a second battery. I was lucky enough to have a Brother who could finish that and some other electric gremlins. I’ve discovered, after driving the van home from California that my builder never bolted down the cabinet with the sink and has left me with no bolts or brackets to finish this piece. Do you know what size the bolts are for this essential fix? I’m not going to fill and use the propane stove until I know this cabinet won’t be rocking back and forth. I’ve seen your vid in the reefer you used and I will be trying that next

Awesome!!! Congrats on the new van! Glad you have someone to help with electronics. Wiring is my greatest enemy haha. I honestly have no idea what size bolts those are. Maybe around a 13mm to the floor, and 10 or 11mm to the sides of the cabinets. There's also a little bracket with two sheet metal screws to the area behind the drivers seatbelt I believe. My best suggestion is to go to a hardware store with the van and ask if you can test out a few sizes and threadings in the parking lot. Good idea to wait until you know the cabinets will stay put to fill up the propane.

Thank you! Yup, these are the GoWesty panels. My experience was that they were not worth the hassle. I seriously tried to get that sliding door panel on about 20 times before I just gave up. The original fasteners were definitely the easiest to use, and easiest to remove.

I got them from GoWesty. They have them in black and grey I think. It really is a big improvement. I got them mostly because they dont rip and won’t hold moisture when they get wet. They also look great too lol. Thanks for watching!
