    The weird thing is, there's a biological ship option in the empire creation screen, but it's just a metal ship like the rest of them, it's just red. It isn't at all what you'd expect from a "biological" ship design. You'd think that if they were creating different ship designs and most of them were the same except for shape, when they landed on the one thing they could get fancy with, they'd do it, and yet nay

    My friend is playing Hive like a lot (I showed him this game and he totally fell in love with Stellaris couple weeks ago) and he really miss some bilogical looking ships ... hive in my opinions is something like Wraiths in Stargate series - so maybe something like that would be great ... But for me I really miss different graphics for different type of weapons ... they all looks same and that's a shame :(

    I have a project due on Wednesday that I've been working on and dreading for two months now. The teacher is infamously hard on grading. Megacorp Expansion comes out Thursday. The combination of morbid dread and elated anticipation. My mind is imploding. But thankfully the project is first because otherwise I'd mysteriously get sick and miss it.

    Will you do the other 3 special worlds tomorrow? The penal colony, thrall world and the resort world. I'm personly really curious what the special buildings are and if I can turn a thrall world into a factory farm.

  • @1Maklak

    @1Maklak

    3 жыл бұрын

    Penal Colony is almost the same as a normal colony and the only limitation is that it doesn't get bonuses from designations (Agri World +25% Food, Factory World -20% Artisan upkeep, etc.) Get one. Resort World can't have Districts or Buildings or upgraded Capital, so it's best to designate a newly colonized planet. It can't have any Districts whatsoever (no Cities, no mining, etc.) It can have housing buildings and be a Clerk farm, but it's mostly useless, except for the bonus it provides to other planets. Thrall World must have some slaves (use Indentured Servitude for best results), can't have Cities or Industry, but can build Generator, Mining and Agriculture Districts. As for buildings, Power Grid, Mineral Hub, Food Processing, Hydroponics Farm, Slave facility, houses for slaves and overseers, Administrative offices for some reason, Fortress, Military Academy, Shield Generator. Other than not having a bonus to basic Job output, a Thrall World can produce basic resources or soldier jobs.

In general in 3.0, building slots are abundant for random stuff and only run out on specialised Science and Administration planets.

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@kanal-zm4qt They would not. I am so very tired of the typical trope of hive minds being a collective 'we' that uses bio-matter for everything, there is nothing that indicates that. A Gestalt consciousness can easily be a normal technology-using species, the only difference being it's a singular mind that introducing itself as an "I" with any one of it's million/trillions of drones anywhere as needed because it literally IS all of these bodies all at once sharing one mind and having one memory. Other than that it can easily care about variety in clothing, USING clothing at all, using regular tech, caring for the safety of it's drones and so on. Hell it might in many ways be completely similar in function to any regular species other than the fact no language, verbal or written, is needed, because all drones share all knowledge and all intel at all times, no need to add signs and directions anywhere because all drones know what is located where and remember the very process any other drones used to make these buildings and so on. Ofc, if your hive-mind is a primarily organic type of species like the Zerg, Scourge or Tyranids, and not another technological option like the Borg, this hive-world will fit in perfectly. Otherwise It would only make sense to have an organic-like world like this if it's completely covered in a benevolent nano-machine scourge that the hive itself has made and controls, to have hyper-efficient mineral extraction, housing (literally grown on command) energy creation and so on. This would only LOOK organic and I suppose that will have to be the excuse here, but let's be honest: this whole thing boils down to a stereotype, and there is only so much leeway in the visuals that the devs make for you. I suppose we will have to wait for a more technological hive-world to be made by some modder somewhere. I can wait for that tbh.

    It makes a lot of sense. A hive world would look like that from outside orbit, you can't see more from that distance. Machines doesn't require lights to live, dunno why everyone think their world should be a lightbulb. On the other hand I agree they are not stunning at all. If you ask me they could add some special orbit building for this worlds only, like a project for mega ships, that is where after trying the expansion the game still lacks. Need more ship and orbital strategy.

    @@juanca2807 Wasn't talking about the lights, that's your assumption. The Ecumonopolis has straight lines denoting the buildings whereas the machine world looks more like a gravel pit. And you've seen many hive worlds I presume... If the organisms are large enough then you obviously could, would be neat to have like a big beating heart like pupae surrounded by writhing tendrils, not practical obviously but for aesthetics. The problem is of course that hive minds are such a broad term, not all of them are Tyranids/Zerg but then again they still have buildings that looks like everyone else's no matter what so...

    @@gossamera4665 Yes, as I said the designs are boring. And yet the vision of both species were always like this, machines like tomb worlds (barren) and hive as a functional society, lacking the organic component (they still use non organic builds, even the fungoids do it). Anyway I have been playing further and I am more concern about game balance, ran to trash, you need to hold 1/4 of the galaxy to just get enough minerals to maintain one of this planets, now that you can't mine habitats.

The devs knew this, I am just fascinated how they ask for suggestion knowing that the patch has a lot of balance issues, looks like using consumers as beta testers. I wonder just how the AI works, in 2.1, if you take over a planet, removes the buildings the AI built and then give it back, they will never build new buildings. So it seems it just has a checklist for after it has settled on a planet but nothing that checks the status after that. You'd think that the same notifications the player gets that shows that a planet has room for buildings would set some sort of flag and would be checked if something changes, such as a planet switching owner, but apparently not.

My fleet is still at 20 corvettes and is in no shape to take on anybody. In the previous patches I'd have a 10k fleet at least by 2280. And to add insult to injury I just finished the precursor chain which.............. spawned a brand spanking new ecuminopolis in enemy territory WTF which they settled. How is that still a thing? I mean you finish the precursor chain you should get the bonus.

Because of the extra leyer of complexety added with every new update and destingishing and well known beloved Features like warpdrive or Planettiles are removed. Every major update results in a learning curve that takes 10+ hrs - not suitable for non proffessional gamers that don't put in 40hrs+ a week.
