Bird was a genius and was so young when he died. If he would of only lived a cleaner life , he would of lived much longer and would of surely taken jazz to even more heights. For a hundred years we have studied Bird at every angle. We need more geniuses like him to take jazz to new heights before it dies out.

Why, why must it be that the peak of technical ability and understanding of music had to be reached by such a boring and kitsch genre?

Thingaloo Could you explain to me why you think that jazz is boring and kitsch? Or are your referring more specifically to bebop?

@@liamcharles506 I mean all of jazz. It's so american and kitsch. It's just a matter of feeling, can't pinpoint an element.

Thingaloo I agree with your very unpopular statement (Amongst the musicians I know). “Jazz” musicians have an enormous knowledge of music theory in comparison to other “classical” musicians or musicians that lay their knowledge on more contemporary musical phenomenons - but in the same type they tend to not exploit the emotional potential of musicianship and tend to repeat very fixed and sometimes tedious and boring paradigms.... But I wouldn’t say it is all “Jazz” musicians. For example Joshua Redman tends to break the melody-solo-melody paradigm and tried to mix between the spontaneous feeling of music with the complexity usually achieved with written music, he reaches to the point you don’t know what is what and everything is very unexpected and taken in the moment. You can hear that very much in his work with “the bad plus”. Another very good one is Alex Hahn, he also mixes between written and spontaneous music but in his case the difference is less vague in exchange to very complex orchestration (in his album from 2017 I’m not sure what’s the title but he is very young and doesn’t have many albums). Take a listen there are amazing stuff going around, and also Baptist Herbin I think is amazing but I understand what you mean and I think he might partially agree. That’s what musicians do, they try to learn and expand both their knowledge and collective knowledge, oftentimes falling into “kitsch” or mainly ability performances.

Have you ever studied jazz? Have you ever tried to understand it, or did you just give up and develop a personal hatred towards the genre you couldn’t understand?
