As a DIY I have seen tires out of round . I have found them while the car was raised and spinning the wheel looking closely for high or low spots . I have also seen radial belts twisted . On very old tires it's not uncommon for them to go out of round before the tread wears out . A lot of shops play the DRY ROT Boogie Man . The slightest sign of small cracks and they try to scare you . Even if new , old tires seem to harden over time . The rubber seems to dry out .

Great job! Another demonstration of good analytical skill and thinking. However, I suspect that the violent shaking at high speed could be due to one of the 4 wheels not properly installed i.e. the screws forces not in good balance. My 2005 Toyota Camry XLE for some years had that kind of vibration. Took it to the dealer, they couldn't figure it out. Took it back to Sears where I bought the tires, all they would do is check the alignment (BYE Sears). Next time I needed tires I turned to my old favorite brand of Michelin. What was found by another tire place and myself also aghast at not noticing myself, Sears had originally installed the wrong tire size! New tires with the correct size...problem gone! 4:15 radial runout. There are Hunter balance machine that minimize the amount of shaking by giving the high/low spots of the wheel and tire, so that you can loosen the bead and align the tire low spot with wheel high spot. Also, balance machines have special shaft cones for toyota trucks/suv, so wheel could be centered to correctly balanced wheels Like how you look over everything for this diagnosis

Please can you consider a video on Corolla clutch creaking. This is a very common problem and although there are uploads showing lubrication of slave cylinder, very often it is more than one single point requiring lubrication, such as the connection between fork and slave piston rod.

These days if you don't have a tire shop that does road force balance as well they will never really know if a tire is 100% or not. I dealt with alot of low profile tires before and without a road force balance you can get good numbers but the car shakes like hell. And the tire needs to have it's location changed on how it's set on the rim. Also if the center cone for the rim is not right you can get the all ok from the tire balancer, but still shake like hell at highway speeds.

I just had my wheels balanced but they still shake and I think that maybe the car ran into something when the teenager who owned it was driving and possibly warped the front CV axle where the wheel bolts on is that a problem too because it looks like it wobbles out of line with the tire like the wheel is not perfectly spinning in a circle but more of a wobble how do you check for that same as just turning the wheel?

Brake pads can be "skimming" the rotors with no smell and no obvious pad or rotor wear. This will shimmy like bad wheel balance. Test drive and check the rotor temperatures. If one is hot you can bet the caliper is not retracting fully. Replace the caliper.

Two different tire shops, balancing, look for out of round, etc. I even bought two sets of tires, another set of wheels, new front struts, two alignments, etc. The cure, over a 100,000 miles ago was a BETTER MORE EXPENSIVE SET OF TIRES. As another said, you get what you pay for.

Were your spring clamps as loose as the ones on the passenger rear of this truck? Seems unless there is some serious flexing of the spring, that the replacement springs were thinner than the OEM springs, to have that much play in those spring clamps. Or they were supposed to be heated and pressed to fit the springs when being replaced under recall...
@2-old-Forthischet
4 жыл бұрын
@@kramnull8962 no. I have over 190,000 miles now on the original rear springs. I don't know if the newer Tacoma has a different type rear spring, but mine have that "reverse" bend look that were that way since the truck was brand new. My truck has no modifications at all. Everything is at stock specs. The only recall this truck went through was the front end which the dealer forgot/didn't to do an alignment after the work so that destroyed the front tires.

Great video. Thanks Peter, you mentioned there was a recall on the timing chain cover oil leak. I have a 2007 Taco 4.0 V6 us this engine covered under that recall?
It was interesting to see they used 6 bolt hubs on those 2WD PreRunners as they were usually reserved for the 4WD models.

I think prerunners have the same suspension setup as 4wd w/o the fwd function of course. My dad has the basic rwd 5 lug and we can't get suspension parts/brake parts meant for a prerunner, thats almost 100% of the time when getting new parts.

@@LAactor its always a message like - not proper fit, or incompatible, or fitment not guaranteed. So we always select the parts for basic 2wd non preRunner.
Great work done.
I replaced tierods inner and outer they was bad. Then got a wobble in steering beteeen 45-55 mph that got worse after driving 10 miles or so. Turns out it was a cv joint. Found that out after new tires and bearing. No noise at all. Changed both axles now drives like a new car. 2001 Corolla
so before that, the bad tire shook the rear leaves loose too?
Please can you consider a video on Corolla clutch creaking. This is a very common problem and although there are uploads showing lubrication of slave cylinder, very often it is more than one single point requiring lubrication, such as the connection between fork and slave piston rod.

Good job 👍👍👍
Tire shops don’t like to admit to a bad tire but it happens. Did you tighten that leaf spring? Was it just a bracket?
Great work
my respects to you sir👌👌👌
Great Video Great Job Thank you
Yeah Mr. Toyota,,,, we wanna see your Scion!
My 2007 Tacoma starts shaking after 60 mph, I recently put some wheels off a 3rd gen, I think I need to get them balanced 🙁
Good , great and excellent job
I just had my wheels balanced but they still shake and I think that maybe the car ran into something when the teenager who owned it was driving and possibly warped the front CV axle where the wheel bolts on is that a problem too because it looks like it wobbles out of line with the tire like the wheel is not perfectly spinning in a circle but more of a wobble how do you check for that same as just turning the wheel?
an out of round tire?
Are you located in Arcata? I also live in Humboldt and have watched your videos for a while.
I have 4runner 2006 shaking at 25 mph when accelerate slowly but with strong accelerate no shake at all. Do you know what might be the problem? Thanks indeed
Great job sir I need a honest mechanic like yo self I bought 4 new tires and balance and wheel alignment done cv axle replaced I drive 40-70 vibrating very bad can you please give me some advice on wat it could be even had them rotate the tires still no fix
Most likely, the vehicle has been driving a long time without an alignment. This will destroy any front tire. The only way to fix the problem is perform an alignment followed by a tire truing on all four wheels.
You seem to know your Toyotas and have a nice clean shop. Where are you located?
So all u did is rotate? What about the leaf springs? I thought u had a loos leaf spring on the passenger rear? Is possible a rim want bolted down correctly?
Our 2006 Tacoma had a rear lead spring recall
So what was the actual cause?? A tire had a bad spot in it? Wheel bent? Out of balance?
I'll be driving a t 65mph-80mph on FWY, when I break to slow down for traffic my steering wheel trends to shake kinda hard it's scary.
Why didn't the dealer replace all the rear springs under the recall
Great job and video

My 2008 Tacoma starts to shake past 25 and when braking. Tires were balanced and vehicle was aligned multiple time. Took it to Toyota I got new rotors and brakes no fix. I purchased brand new tires and Trd rims and got vehicle aligned and tires balance and issue still remains. Idk what to do anymore... let me plz bring you my truck
i balanced and swapped my tyres and it still shakes at @ 110km/h, steering only. i will install new rotors then take it to another shop to get force balanced.
Great video! FYI I seen you have a Toyota service sign in your shop. Toyota does not like their logos used in independent repair shops. I know this because I ran parts & service departments at Toyota dealerships for over 30 years. Best wishes

My 2000 toyota prerunner 6cyl with over 200k miles the steering wheel vibrates when i go over bumps at speeds of 60-65mph and above and after the road gets smooth the vibration stops does anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be? Thank you
Brake pads can be "skimming" the rotors with no smell and no obvious pad or rotor wear. This will shimmy like bad wheel balance. Test drive and check the rotor temperatures. If one is hot you can bet the caliper is not retracting fully. Replace the caliper.
Thank you so much, that's what happen to my truck. The steering wheel rattled at 40-60 mil...
What is the address of your shop so I can drop off my 2011 Highlander for you to diagnose the source of front-end vibration after replacing front drive shafts (twice!), lower ball joints, stabilizer links, bushings, tires, balancing and more. Maybe I should give it up after 260K miles and move on, but otherwise, the car still runs like new. What more can be diagnosed and/or replaced?
Too bad you are not local to me I would take my FJ to you for maintenance

How about steering wheel shake when braking at high speeds? Does that usually indicated warped front brake rotors?
@DIYwJR

Either that and or could be problem with caliper not saying its completely bad but guide pins that or faulty or strip can cause uneven brake wear and will eventually cause horrible braking and high speed and sometimes even notice arpund 5 mph or under when coming to a very slow creeping stop.

So alignment was the problem?????
I have the same problem with my gx470.
Here's my experience with a 2003 2wd Tacoma and high speed shaking. I went through the typical stuff.

@2-old-Forthischet

If you had a bad tire in front and you rotate it to the back, you should still have the vibration but it should be felt in your seat instead of the steering wheel. Did you experience the vibration in the seat after the tire rotation?
