Steering Gear replacement 2003-2008 Dodge 2500,3500

In this video i demonstrate how to replace the steering box in a 2007 model dodge 3500, this is the same procedure for 2003-2008 dodge 2500-3500, i prefer to use the OEM box it is an updated 6 bolt box and i have never had any issues and all my customers have been happy. The aftermarket steering gears which im sure there are some good ones out there i have not had any luck with, I like to give my customers the most reliable repairs possible. The OEM box also comes with the pitman arm and attaching tie rod which should be replaced when doing the steering box

I have to say thank you! I watched a few videos of doing this before I attacked mine. Yours was by far the most direct and simple and well as good tips for different things. Even down to getting stubby wrenches. I had to go barrow them from a buddy but made a world of difference. Just wanted to take the time to thank you for taking the time to make the video. It made my job a lot easier since I don’t work on vehicles for a living.

Thank you for posting this video - it was a huge help! I ended up leaving the pitman arm attached to the linkage, but otherwise followed your steps without too much trouble. My puller wouldn't fit the pitman arm on my '08 RAM 2500, but I managed to tease it off with a cold chisel, penetrating oil, and some patience.

You don’t have enough subscribers. That was AWESOME. Thank you so much for showing us this! My dad has a leak on the passenger side and we think it is power steering fluid. It’s orangish-red, just like coolant. I noticed a dark stain on his fender cover inside near the front passenger tire. I removed the fender cover and saw this tray/box that sits near the alternator and on the side/under the radiator. I can’t tell if it’s plastic or metal, but the entire trey is coated with the liquid. It is orange/red. So i searched YT to see where the steering box is (driver’s side under fender cover). Thanks for this! Do you have an idea of what could be leaking in that spot?

there is a master key on the box, if your truck is pulling that wouldn't be caused by your pitman being out regardless that would just cause it to turn sharper one way, you have an alignment issue, worn out parts or possibly a seized brake caliper if its pulling

They can be a bit of a pain sometimes especially if rusty, try cleaning the threads on the line with a wire brush and turn the fitting backwards until it seats into the box, sometimes I use a stubby wrench with minimal pressure to get by the threads of their binding.

My 2014 Ram 3500 diesel has an issue where the steering is inconsistant on curves. Feels like the pressure on the steering is intermittent. All the tie rod ends, ball joints, wheel bearings, track bar bushings, stabilizer links, and steering dampner have been checked and the loose parts replaced and the problem remains. Wondering if a steering box is the answer to remedy this or the pump, my knowledge ends at this point and I have never encountered this before, I can find forums with people having the same problem and no solutions. Any help would be great.

I have a question. I recently bought a 07 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9l cumins and a couple of days ago while I was driving it it felt like I didn’t have steering while I was making a left turn. I replaced de p/a fluid becáis it had a burnt smell. But I don’t fix anything. It doesn’t do it all the time. I took my truck to a dodge dealer and after $500 in diagnostics, they were unable to duplicate the concern. Based in your experience, what could be the cause of the steering issue? Thank you.

  • @bradgdiesel3243

my guess would be that the pressure control valve is sticking up, when you are driving at higher speeds in a straight line the pressure to turn is less, when your slower making harder turns the pressure is higher,
