Good job guys. Couple of tips from a Canadian Red Seal Truck Mechanic: wire wheel or wire brush off the anchor pin on the spider and apply a thin coating of copper antiseize to the anchor pin or the end of the brake shoe steel frame that rides on the pin. This will prolong the life of your anchor pin and prevent your brakes from hanging up after releasing the brake pedal, miles and miles down the road. Also, I always check the condition of the S-Cam bushings by rocking the S-Cam up and down. Worn out bushings can decrease brake lining life and throw off your brake adjustment by a little bit. And finally, double check brake stroke or atleast freestroke of pushrod after brake adjustment and re-adjust as required until brake stroke is within spec. Usually my rough adjustment is 1/4 turn plus 1/8 of a turn and that usually sets me within 1 or 2 clicks of 1/2 Inch free-stroke. Nice truck! Love the videos. Cheers from Canada.

How many here can remember when steer axle brakes were avoided? If a truck had them, you always had a cutoff valve to shut them off. I think the became required about the late 70s. I can't remember, it's been so long ago. How many here can remember watering their brakes?

Back in the day it was all daytons, a whole different setup and indeed the only way to change the brakes was to pull the drive axle, the bearing hardware and pull the whole dayton hub and drum as a unit and they are HEAVY, then finally you are at the point of being able to swap out the shoes unless the S cam needs pulling and new bushings put in etc.

I cut more of a grove back through the center line of the end of the prybar that was plenty wide for the spring shank to fit and with the curved tip and it just cups the beehive spring assembly so easy and works so slick, probably paid a whole 5 dollars for the long shank prybar.

your air dryer has oil out the purge valve, you need to get your air compressor address before it migrates the oil any more into your air system and ruin all your brake valves, also remember anytime you have the hub cap plug exposed to poke the breather hole so you dont ruin the seal with pressure.

Your man knows he's stuff, It's cool to see him do these things with ease. He might have he's reasons but I think it looked like the threads on the wheel bolts were screaming for some grease on them. I know it's always up for discussions whether to grease wheelnuts or not, I kind of like some grease on them and then I'm more confident that the torque wrencher will still tell me when the 500nm is reached. I know a greased wheelbolt is more likely to come off than the one's without any grease but the threads will be lasting longer.

@@DauminiqueTheDumpTruckDriver those been quite big i would have done the same. On small cars in the UK, they are really fiddly as the springs are small and fly off easily.

Great work Dominique. Good to save some $ by DIY. Only be safe while doing it. The hydraulic jack can fail so use support when the truck is lifted. Getting unther while it's on a hydraulic jack is a risk
