Steep Green Tea in Gaiwan - Best Tips for Gongfu Tea at Home

Are you a green tea lover? In this video, I'll show you how to steep green tea in a gaiwan with valuable tips that help you brew green tea in gongfu tea style at ease.
There are many different ways of making green tea. The most commonly used teawares are glass and gaiwan. In previous videos (links below), we demonstrated how to drink green tea directly from a gaiwan like a pro, as well as how to brew green tea in a glass for a more authentic experience.
This is a follow-along style how-to video, aiming to guide you through the process of steeping green tea and build confidence to brew intuitively. Brewing tea intuitively is not brewing blindly. It's an ongoing conversation with the tea while brewing. Let the tea and your taste buds guide your brewing decisions.
Please don't forget to give us a thumbs up so that we know you enjoyed the video. And don't hesitate to let us know what you want to see in our future videos.
Keep steeping,
Phil and Zhen

A fine video, full of knowledge, wisdom, experience, and impeccable taste. I just tried,a few days ago,a sampler from my last order, the Tie Guan Yin,a favorite of yours,I’m told. It was wonderful, and I had the honor of it being made in one of the silver teapots sold by Yunnansourcing!! It was a super fun session, and I thank you😊

Excellent video. With little effort a wonderful brew can be made from greens which I feel are much underrated. I prefer them myself over the fruitier more processed teas (except for yellows which are only somewhat more processed). And I also enjoy Grandpa-style loose leaf in the glass. :)

I thought you will mention some water temperature and brewing times 😁 Well, never mind. I have been drinking some Lu Shan Yun Wu (from Lao Qun Ti Zhong cultivar - I'm not sure, if it is traditional cultivar or not). It is a bit delicate tea, nice mouthfeel, not much strong in taste - a bit fruity, a bit umami, sweet finish. Juicy and refreshing. Brewing in gaiwan, making several steeps, seems to be more suitable for this particular tea.

You never tell the temperature n how many secs. Not good. Too much talk n no actual information.

You might got a head rush due to too much caffeine or something, I'm not a doctor sadly. But green tea can easily make you feel that for many reasons. Please keep in mind the following: - Do not drink it on an empty stomach, eat and wait at least 30 minutes after eating - Buy good quality tea - Use 80 - 70 Celsius water - Use clean, soft water, use a water filter jug, or try to find a water brand that has very low calcium - Brew it for maximum 30 seconds - Use 3 grams for 100ml ratio After brewing many times, you will find your way, and adjust to your preferences.

I agree with your advice, green, yellow, white teas are so often brewed incorrectly in the west. They are usually steeped too hot,and for too long. This is the result of tea bag culture.
