Yeah, I guess. He MUST have known, right? Shit. Fucking raw deal. What happens when you smoke. Daddy Don’t Live in The NYC No More was a stretch. Even tho it was Larry Carlton’s very first time (studio album) recording with them- and boy..did he shine on rhythm.. THIS time it barely sounds anything like it. The reason is bc you can’t hear the chopping high-end E9th chord driving it. I was 12 bars in before I knew what this was.

I have been defending my opinion for years with my low-brow friends that SD is the finest R & R Band in America to ever come along, for 100 reasons. And I will continue to do so. And I will look for more enlightened friends. Thank you, SD!

Since I left Buffalo NY, moved to Florida I have NO friends. And all acquaintenaces i DO have are low brow. So (I) don’t even bring up a revered subject like music or SD because it’s so fucking damn painful not being able to even share anything worthwhile with anyone anymore. Fuck this hole

My wife and I saw the 1974 London rainbow show , we were destroyed and left in shreds after the show , we would talk about the show for many years in fact I still talk about and post on fb about it. My wife and I met Donald by chance at the national gallery in London the morning after , I just wanted to thank him for an amazing show , he was real kind and thanked me greatly, he was surprised at being recognised . Been playing the box set kane through my phone , the four discs are some of the only full sized files in there except the grateful dead of course , this is a sad concert , losing Walter was a shock for us all very sad loss 😢 RIP Walter Becker.

@@deadzahead Thanks for those memories. Similar story. My wife and I saw their '74 tour when it played the U. of Toledo on Sunday April 21st. We were lucky to see them as headliners, because two nights earlier they had to open for The Beach Boys in Columbus, Ohio. It was also our introduction to the voice of future blue-eyed soul legend, Michael McDonald. Broke our musical hearts when Steely Dan didn't tour again for the next 19 years. Bought every new album, hoping they would tour behind it, and they just never did. We had to follow guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and McDonald over to The Doobie Brothers to get our live music fix for the rest of the decade.

R.I.P. Walter ! You were one of a kind musician and composer ! Thanks.

40 years ago I had the album. The Royal Scam . And Aja. Played the shit out of them. Amazingly, I appreciate them more at 58. Talk about music that stands the test of time. Unbelievable. Perhaps unparalleled.

I sort thought the drummer is heavy handed on that snare with limited dynamics… maybe just the recording mix, but there’s nothing subtle going on there imho

Thus is a crummy fone recording; lacks low end, favors drum sounds. There is a better recording of this same set; track it down

I'm so grateful that my dear friend Ed invited me along to see Walter Becker and Steely Dan play Aja, plus the bulk of their incredible tunes, at the Greek Theater in L.A. Rest in Peace Ed and thank you for the concert experience of my life.

So awesome to see Larry Carlton playing with SD again! And I'm a big fan of Jon Herington too, he does excellent work with SD carrying on the legacy.

Walter was beautiful!! He brought character to Steely Dan!! I wish he sang more tunes! Rest east Walter

Buy Circus Money by Walter if you haven't already. 11 tracks of whack is great too favorite songs like down at the bottom junking girl cringe maker but his second solo record CD etc whatever you call it kind of a reggae feel to it on some of the tunes definitely but the backing band has Carolyn Leonhart,Keith Carlock Jon Herriton,etc. Walter playing all the bass on it I love the whole record there I go again CD. I wanted to tell Walter while I was listening to him talk beginning that I knew that a Black Cow was a drink before I knew what Cuervo Gold during Hey 19 intro because of the song Black Cow but it wasn't quite way back when in 67. Grew up w this. Great. RIP Walter

I saw Steely Dan a number of times, but my favorites were the show at the Santa Barbara County Bowl and especially the show at the Beacon in NYC when they played the full Aja album followed by greatest hits. Incredible!

I wish Larry Carlton, Tim Schmidt, Michael McDonald, Donald Fagen, and Walter Becker, and whoever on drums percussion, and the horn section would’ve toured together a Steely Dan

Rest well Walter. You gave us the best music on this planet. I remember when you began playing in the seventies and you guys exploded on the scene and everyone was dazzled by your incredible instrumentals, and unique musical creations. I will listen to Steely Dan until the day I die and I will never get tired of it. I have become tired of several bands from the 60's and 70's and beyond but I'll never get tired of listening to Steely Dan. God has you now Walter, rest in his love.

R.I.P. Walter Becker. I still have my copy of "Can't Buy a Thrill" from the year it was released.

An emotional watch for me....Walter was clearly not well here, but never shirked from the spotlight and his vital role on this evening. Seeing him solo on Pretzel Logic is a very special thing, with Larry Carlton supporting over to the left. That song was often the highlight of a Steely Dan show.

Larry Carlton, Keith Carlock, Walter, Donald, Incredible backing singers… would’ve been a great show

Thanks so much for the upload, great show. Living in Australia they didn't tour much down here, only twice, iirc in 2006 and in 2011. I only got to see SD once in 2006 but that was enough. I can die happy knowing I saw them live just once.

Interestingly I had never heard Walter say much at any of this concerts, I wonder it they knew this was the last time he would perform. He died about two months after this performance. A legend left us that sad day.

He died of a very fast-acting form of esophageal cancer - according to his widow, it came out of nowhere and took him down incredibly quickly. He was 67. Fagan said he had been "sick for decades" - but I believe his widow - and he was strong and capable, even here.

RIP Walter! Left us way to early!

Kinda hard for me to watch this concert which...seeing his appearance...is why I haven't yet; along with knowing he only had about 3-4 months to go. Pretty obvious he isn't in good health. However I give tremendous credit to him for still going right up until he could not keep up any longer. As fans we all really miss him. I'd imagine for those who knew him, or anyone up on stage that night would say the same.

Thanks for posting. I managed to catch them a few times when they played London. Funny that the last time I saw Walter in the line-up was actually in Las Vegas of all places...

Carlton sure had a good show here; lov his movement while playing! Saw him with other bands, & his band; always great!

Saw them at Paris Olympia concert, it was great, my best concert.

Another great gig by my favorite band but so hard to watch. Have seen them many times over the years but knowing Walter and Jim have gone to the Wild Blue Yonder hurts. Thankful for all those concerts and recordings. I'm 70 now, time flies.

The best live guitarist I ever saw with them is Drew Zingg. Absolute Burn 🔥

One of my great musical regrets is that I ignored Becker's solo material. If you get the chance, check out his "11 Tracks Of Whack" album, produced by Fagan. Really good stuff.

However, Donald Fagan and Walter Becker have always said that their musical heroes and icons were the jazz greats of years and decades past, like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, and Dexter Gordon. Their writing (esp. the instrumentation) looks more to the past than to any new trends that were developing in "rock music" as it was defined in the 70s and 80s.

Steely Dan didn't especially fit in with the "Prog" rock category. They were more jazz and funk based. There was really nobody else like them and they created their own distinct genre. R.I.P. Walter Becker.

And that wasn't the first time Steely Dan employed attractive female background singers on stage...Check out Gloria "Porky" Granola and Jenny "Bucky" Soule from 1973 if you can find them!

id say this is the hardest band to see live out of all the great bands in the last 50 years S D and zeppelin in the 70s the 2 greatest shows i missed out on. bonzo and walter and the lizard king are looking for a bass player im told, any suggestions?

Thanks so much for uploading this! I am a big SD fan, but sadly I never got to see them play live while Walter was still alive. Wish I could've gone to this, as Greenwich was practically my backyard when growing up in nearby Port Chester/Rye Brook, NY, but by 2017 I was living in NC. Does anyone know exactly where in Greenwich they played here?

As much as I love Donald’s solo albums( and he is my musical hero), Without Walter...there would have been no Steely Dan. End of. Listen to Donald’s solo albums.....then Walters solo albums...then you see where Steely Dans ‘edge’ or ‘danger’ came from. It was the Walter.
